Qiyana is One Champion Too Many

So I've been playing league for I think 8 years now. The first champion I personally remember being released was Kog Maw. And I've taken a few breaks from the game here and there but I always seem to come back to at some time or another. And while I haven't always liked the newly released champions, I recognize at least that they fit into the game in some way. Their abilities are clear, I get a grasp on them, I can play against them without being completely blindsided by an ability.

This is not the case with Qiyana.

I don't know if it's because her abilities look similar to other champs, or because there are now too many champs for my pea brain to get a handle on, or if I'm actually just getting old and can't grasp new concepts anymore. But whenever I see her I just get confused. I see her leap once and I think it's her only leap, then she leaps and pulls some elements and I think Lux is casting a Q at her. That's just what I see, no lux in the game, my mind flashes immediately to a lux q and I think she's about to get snared.

She throws a Q at me and I dumbly sit there like "what was that? A taliyah rock?" Then she hits me with the ult and literally every time I'm surprised at how far it knocks me back, how long it stuns, how much damage it does. I see her circle sword thingy and think she's sivir walking around. At first I sort of figured it's cuz she's new and I'd get a grip on her after a little while. It hasn't happened.

I know it's not just me because I have friends I play League with who say the same things. We just can't get a grasp on her, and every time I realize that, I remember reading vague articles about how people only have the mindpower to hold the details of about 100 friends in their head. More than that and details start to slip, you can't remember their favorite foods or you don't quite relate to them anymore.

I think League of Legends has sort of hit the limit on how many champions can realistically be in the game. Too many more and people simply wont be able to keep the patterns, abilities, playstyles, what they look like and how to distinguish them, in their heads. I'm not saying to never make another champion again, but I think RIOT needs to realize that more champions might not be healthy for the game.

That's just my two cents, love to hear what other people think.

I agree to an extent, while I don't think Riot should just not make any more champions, I do think they should stop making champions with a "thing" that completely changes the game. Its getting hard to keep track anymore. (think pyke with not being able to build HP. Sylas with ult stealing. Yuumi and her attach. New akalis old true stealth. The list goes on) I get that every champion is different, 100% get it, and I also get that every champion will play differently, but not every champion needs something that completely changes the game; now onto Qiyana I recently played Qiyana in an aram game (Sadly the match history is being very buggy, it might be there on op.gg might not (I saved the replay, so I have proof)) and I got an unofficial penta as well as an S; I think the problem with Qiyanna is shes overtuned. Her elemental dash only costs 25 mana, and it empowers her next O, if you dash into a bush your next Q turns you invisible and gives you 20% movement speed, if you dash into stone your next Q explodes or whatever, and into river it roots, alone the Q is pretty weak. Her ultimate is an airborne into a stun which then explodes the ENTIRE WALL; Qiyana just has too much in her kit its hard to keep track of anymore... and like you said, it looks like other abilities sometimes. I really don't know how to help you here, OP, but I do agree with you for how little its worth

Imo, just play 10 games with her, that's the best way to get used to her kit/animations/dmg potential.

Can't say I agree. I have a general idea of what every champion does in this game, even if I don't play them myself. So the game has not reached the point of "too many different characters" for me yet.

And I actually hope that they will keep adding champions for quite a while. There are still many champion archetypes that I am missing in this game. Getting told now that we have too many champions and therefore there will never be another Zaunite/Piltovian in the game would kinda suck.

It's just you not looking hard enough and not paying attention. All there is to it.

Especially if you're somehow seeing a rainbow effect going towards a champion when she casts a brown/blue/green effect away from herself.

Sorry, but what...?
