If I'm in promos and its glaringly apparent that the team isn't going to work out (troll picks, champion select toxicity, or other shenanigans) do I dodge and take the loss to prevent the tilting experience of the game or roll the dice that the experience isn't going to be as bad as it looks.

Taking the chance 'feels' better, and might be better for short term gains, while dodging preserves your mmr (which is probably better for long term climbing), 'only' loses 3 lp behind the scenes so if you need to reearn promos it'll only be 1 or 2 games compared to 2 or 3, and also saves you from potentially tilting over the troll game.
