What is a good champion for beginner jungling?

I want to learn jungle after being an ADC main for so long. It seems in ranked I either get left with either support or jungle if I don't get my main role, and I know how to play everything BUT jungle lol.

So what's a good champion to learn on?

I'd say Warwick. He's like baby's first jungler.

Warwick, Nunu, and Udyr are all cheap and easy to use and learn.

Warwick is probably the easiest, really forgiving and can translate to higher levels of play later on. Nocturne is also a pretty decent start, although he is somewhat more difficult than warwick.

People will tell you Warwick.

Those people are wrong.

You want FROODLESTOOK. Reason's:

  1. he feels their fear
  2. no hard buttons need push: W until camp is low, E, drop mic walk away
  3. his moves, in order, are Q=get ganked noob lord outplayed, W=it's time to d-d-d-duel oh I win, E=you thought you got away LOLnope, R=pentakill-o-Matic.

WW is THE Noob jungler. He's one of the few who can sustain in jungle with no runes or masteries, and his Ult = ezmode ganks. I don't like him for jungling in ranked however, because he really has no utility or gap closer outside of his ult. Once that's burned up, he's a lame duck. Also, if the enemy team is smart and builds QSS, he's useless.

Fiddle might sound good on paper, but in practice you get your ult interrupted more often than not, and he is super squishy. Until you get Zonya's he's extremely weak, and he can't gank until 6. He also can get counter jungled - fear or no fear. If you don't have blue buff you're basically useless. Very good in team fights tho.

Yi has extremely good clear times, jungle sustain and incredible damage and scaling, but not the best ganks when his ult isn't up because he has no CC.

Udyr if left unchecked can be virtually unkillable in late game, but his ganks are weak until he's pretty fed. Has the fastest jungle clear speed, no question. This usually means that lanes get no ganks while he just farms. I don't like this strategy, but a lot of people watch a certain person's stream and get delusions of grandeur.

Olaf is easy, but has bad ganks. Same with Cho, although you never see Cho jungle. I've seen people Karthus jungle, it's bad. Pantheon is interesting because he can gank from half a map away. He did see some use in worlds.

What you mostly see in the pros: Junglers who have a gap closer and an escape. Kha'zix, Lee Sin, Rengar. All have burst, sustain, clear speed, gap closer and escape mechanism. I would say they are all more complicated than the rest of the list.

My pick: Xin Zhao is very good easy jungler. Has short CD gap closer and knock up CC, and good sustain in the jungle. His ult requires some skill, that's about it. I think a lot of people at low elo prefer an ult execute, xin doesn't have that. I've effectively taken myself from Bronze 4 to Silver 3 by playing a ton of Xin Jungle, and I'm winning about 70% of my games at this elo as long as I can jungle. I'm 70 wins and 41 losses with Xin, and I just started playing lol about 2 months ago.

edit* Sometimes you really need some AP on your team, Amumu is extremely good in team fights and ganks very well starting at 3. Has no sustain and requires blue buff. I think Amumu is a better choice than Xin but I don't get as good of results yet. Diana is a good alternate, but Amumu ult = team destroyer.

Nunu. You literally should never die to a jungle camp even if it's your first time because of Consume.

Warwick should be the most easy one to pick up. Udyr also isn't too difficult.

Warwick, Fiddlesticks, Rammus and Jarvan are all very easy to learn because of how one dimensional they are in playstyle (plus, they basically don't have mechanics). They're also some of the strongest junglers in soloq - I'd recommend picking up one or more of those champs if you want to learn how to jungle.

Yi, always YI

WW, Yi, and Cho. All very easy, all produce decent results.

I may be the only one who says this but. I tried jungling with all the afformentoned ones and honestly Zac was the first jungler I could use consistently and do well with. No mana worries, Tanky as hell end game. Can be the best initiator. Ganks over walls and can bypass wards if done right. Nothing feels better than landing that perfect sligshot and surprising an opponent who hadnt warded and scoring that lane a double kill. He is very forgiving to mistakes, and since you're an adc you are already used to landing skillshots.

Pointy Rock10/21/2014, 9:09:05 PM1 votes

Xin is probably your best option, his ganks are ridiculously strong with no skillshot requirements and you can start ganking at level 3 or even 2 (unlike WW, which has a 6 requirement)....also his sustain is pretty nice as well.

AmazingGoat10/21/2014, 9:19:56 PM1 votes

+1 for Warwick. I have no experience with Xin so I can't comment on that. I think Warwick is nice in that his ganks are really easy once he hits six, and his play style is really simple.

Long Dong Wukong10/21/2014, 9:26:33 PM1 votes

Xin probably

Fikuwu10/21/2014, 4:40:13 PM1 votes

Kha Zix, Vi, Pantheon. All have fairly decent clear, and their ganks aren't the best, but aren't the worst either.

First off, don't start juggling in ranked until you have practiced it in normals, you will have an awful experience. Depending on your rank, some good jungles include Master Yi for very easy clear and good sustain and can carry pretty well. Malphite, Sejuani, or Rammus are good if you want to try a tank. J4 and Lee sin are good fighter types, maybe also elise. If you want to have a really safe and sustained jungle, then you can try Warwick (he isn't great though because he is very slow at clearing things out). If you are relatively low rank, Amumu is apparently quite strong, since few people punish his weak early game. Once you pick one, watch a few youtube guides about how to play the one you chose, they are often more helpful than you realize if you haven't ever played a certain champion.
