Look at ADC gold and Support gold.
Can't buy cool gear when you are support. Even though the play can be engaging and fun (dueling, harassing, etc)

That's the point of support though, you feed your add all the gold so they can carry for the both of you. Most sups go tank, which is super cheap, if your trying to go a carry sup then your taking kills from your adc. If you die but give your adc a double kill bot then you did your job, gold is not of most importance.
So you're saying that because the support gets less gold it's less fun to play support?
