I started around early mid season five, so I've never played ranked early in the season. I've heard people say that jumping right into ranked is a bad idea, but I don't have an amazing grasp of why, nor do I know when I SHOULD start playing then.
Does anyone have any answers?
I've always started playing pretty much day 1 of the new seasons and I haven't had any issues personally.
However, I do believe most people say things "even out" about 3-4 weeks after season start.
I think the idea is to not get matched with people from last season who finished at a plat level for example, but was dropped to silver due to reset. Those players at the beginning of the season can easily carry themselves out and it can lead to matches that are no where near balanced. While there is no specific "time" you should be playing, this is probably why it's probably not the best idea to start ranked right away unless you are one of those players.
You should def. wait. I was gold in between seasons. Then got trolled back to back during placements this week and got S5. I mean i'm climbing back pretty fast, just annoying enough that I feel i should have waited.
