Varus is one of the hardest adcs I have ever played he is mana hungry, heavily depends on a support to do well. flat out requires ganks to get ahead. essentially only two builds exist for varus: go mana hungry or do no damage at all.

This tells me that you either don't even play Varus or go in with a build blindly. I've played AP Varus and he deletes people. It's in his W's passive that can pop most tanks, and squishies. But you wouldn't know that because the way you describe his abilities. So please go read and play him in more games. Then you can complain or do whatever.
