The purpose of the support item rework did nothing but slow down supports

I have waited, patiently, for something positive to come out of these support items, and with the recent relic shield nerf, its apparent I will never get it,

The new support itemsitem 3069, item 3401 and item 3092 just instead forced all supports to carry wards. While conceptually that is nice early game, and effectively forces a role mechanic to have a forced function, it was a fairly unfulfilling change. Normally a support would have their item, grab tier 2, and then buy the ward item. Depending on how the game went they would keep the wards or shuck them. I can't tell you how often, when I game goes on for 30+ minutes, I was asked to toss my wards for more damage, or another utility based item.

If it was going to be a rough game, I would go the old ward hybrid, or if I was a tank it was almost a must. If I wasn't, I had a valid utility item in the form of frost queens, or talisman. Now I can still get those perks in the form of item 2065 or item 3905, but after I am forced to build an item that I will eventually sell. And its much more common for me to sell if the game goes on too long. The items bring me no satisfaction.

Then they nerf item 3097 , an item I refuse to buy now. item 3301 guarantees me better gold potential and mana (since there isn't a real manaless support unless you count shen), and item 3310. This item is a joke to me now. Originally a morg or lux would do fantastic as a supp with it into frost queens. Now, if you use your abilities wrong, its goodbye gold for 12 seconds (if you only managed to kill one, of course). Its tribute generation is useless late game on a damage mage support, especially while fighting. Now its just better to go coin.

A Naut/Taric/Melee tank support, if he is against any poke supports like nami, morg, lux, can't safely tap a minion with item 3097 until the game goes on. This wastes that passive. If the enemy team is zoning well, they will torment that support. Now that lovely item has had its gold generation dropped immensely. Which, I honestly don't use much anymore since the rework, but now won't even try to use it.

And while, this does sound like a "I am a support main and am salty", I really do feel like my ability to play ranked in my lovely low silver rank has been negatively impacted by these choices. I play ranked so much less now that those items have been reworked, and really am exhausted trying to learn how to play other, more isolated, roles.

Supports SHOULD carry wards, but more important then that, put down the damn things. At no point of the game is having map vision a bad thing, and is even a crucial part of winning games. The changes made it so there's no excuse to not have that vision, but since there was never a reason not to fully upgrade your starter item anyway, nothing has actually changed in that regard. The changes simply made a very small decision even simpler.

Support in 2k18 lul. Better to just play mages and kill lanes now. Supporting is no longer a viable thing because of the continuous shitfest that Rito is giving to the role.

yeah all the support and vision changes have been complete shit. and i would really like to know tho the bloody hell thought those would be a good idea

as a secondary support.. my item path on morg has changed from item 3098/sightstone/ item 3312 item 3157 to item 3098 item 3157

on lux it has changed from item 3098 / sightstone/ item 3070 /item 3312 /item 3504 /item 3003

to item 3098 item 3070 item 3504 item 3003

both build path all it really does is just make me get more core items absurdly faster (i think roughly 2k gold faster)

I know I complain about this in probably every other thread I post in, but I'd really like to see some caster offtank itemization for supports- even if just one specific item aimed at it- a solid chunk of HP/Armor/Resists for cheap gold, but have it **reduce **all your damage, shields, and healing by 15% or something. I'm a Bard main and hate that he feels so weak when you try to build him offtank nowadays. Give us a real option to forsake AP/Damage/"support" items in exchange for being able to wade into fights a bit more. It's feeling more and more futile since Runes Reforged and the buffing of champion damage, keystones, etc.
