Different maps
If gameplay isn't the right place for this please move it.
I really feel that a great problems that Riot currently faces in their game is that they have so many champions that it's difficult to balance all of them around a single map. There's only so many ways you can fill a specific role, after awhile things can stagnate. You also have the options of changing items and changing the characteristics of the map and the game play.
There are still only so many ways you can adjust things, even if you include all the different game modes they've toyed with over the years. But still only one form of ranked play, Summoner's Rift.
I propose that a larger number of tournament maps would make balancing the game easier overall, especially of you build each map in such a way as to provide advantages to champions of various strengths. This would allow them to strengthen various aspects of different characters kits to have a particular emphasis and style, this in turn would deepen the overall gameplay and strategy.
I know there is a lot of work that goes into developing maps, but I really think the initial effort and cost would only strengthen the game as a whole and pay off in the long run with a larger, more varied player base.
Doors anyone else have any ideas along these lines? I thought the factory in Jinx's intro video would be great, also Shurima, Denacia, Noxus, ect.
Edit: You could also allow larger teams on large maps, or maps with multiple teams instead of the normal binary. If they tired them into the lore it would provide some great depth to the gameplay itself.
