The real problem with edge of night
There is a problem with
, I think we all agree on that. For the last week there has been a daily post asking for the item to get gutted/removed. For me, it is cristal clear that the only change Riot needs to make here is to nerf lethality, but not so much that it's worse than its previous state, you know, when nobody ever complained about
and lethality itemization because they were too weak.
However, some people (ehem quinn mains ehem) don't seem to share this opinion, cause "
is fine. If you think it's op use it yourself". Well guys, there is a huge problem here, edge of night (in its current state) makes ad champions infinitely better than ap champions. Why? It is a damage item with a defensive mechanic, a telegraphed spellshield. Now lets compare it to its equivalent por ap champions,
. This item gives you some damage and a defensive mechanic too. Bot defensive mechanics are different, because they tackle different issues, ap champions (in general) want to use all their spells in the shortest time possible have some free time to recharge their cooldowns, ad champions need a more prolonged time to apply their damage without being interrupted, the spellshield perfectly acomplishes this.
BUT, there is another thing to take into consideration here, imagine you are against
in lane and she builds
, she is giving up a lot of damage to get that estasis, she gets some cdr, which is nice, but she'd have a ton more kill pressure if she had build a
. On the other hand,
gives you a more than decent kill pressure, a
or a
with it are a real treat to your team, and thats the only problem with
, the spellshield is completely fine, hell, nobody writes posts about how broken
(clue, because it isn't) which has a better spellshield than
. The only problem here is that an ad hibrid item has more damage than it's ap counterpart, that's it.
