I was just going through my fb news feed and I came across this. It looks pretty good since people are dcing on ranked. Riot plz respond to this and make it happen if it is a good idea since a lot of people are dcing on ranked due to the lag.

Why does this look so familiar...

Yeah, back when I made that thread (before being a red), there was a lot of valuable discussion surrounding the limitations of the design. To me, at the time, it was more valuable to get the conversation started than to create an end all solution. It's a fun conversation piece, to be sure!

So in the forum discussion the concern was the incentive to harrass out other players in an attempt to gain a mercy vote. With the option of muting players I don't see why that is a concern. I mute lots of offensive teammates and opponents which keeps me calm and in the game. Perhaps an added tweak could be if a person is spamming chat then a pop up reminder on your next death with the option to mute:

"Summoner X has posted 75 messages in 2 minutes, would you like to mute Summoner X?"

This reminds us that we have the option to cut off anger rather than respond. Even without the mercy system I like this idea. Lyte and crew could probably come up with a good threshold for the reminder too.

EDIT: An option to opt out of these notifications all together would also be a good idea, in case someone finds the pop ups annoying. Also it could flag certain words or phrases that would trigger the prompt "Summoner X may be using offensive language, would you like to mute Summoner X?"

He is trolling you, look at the position he works as a software engineer http://www.riotgames.com/careers/software-engineer-1 this shows he does work on server stuff more than a gameplay feature, riot have said they are doing something about theAFK problem which will come with SR VU or in Season 5

Oh sorry for the confusion! As stated previously I became a red after spending years in the community. I made the initial post being referenced here in that time :)

see: http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=3512300

either way, I like to read community opinions. No, I don't work on gameplay or anything, but I still enjoy the conversation (especially since that thread was close to home for me) :)

not gonna happen, riot ignores 4v5 since 2009

Xones10/1/2014, 2:14:23 PM3 votes

I wouldn't show mercy, i get afks all the time, if i get the chance of an easy win, i'm going for it.

Nebuul10/1/2014, 4:30:32 PM3 votes

If a team votes to give mercy, there needs to be a "penalty" of sorts against the team granting mercy to prevent abuse. I propose it marks the match for loss prevention for everyone who did not leave/afk. What that will do is as follows:

  1. The victorious team will only get minimal LP (I think it is like 1/3 normal reward), but they would still get credit for the win
  2. The losing team's players that do not have AFK time in the match will not lose LP and will not have any active series affected
  3. Any players on the losing team who were AFK will have full loss penalties plus leavebuster penalties

I think it would work in this case because the winning team would only be willing to grant mercy in genuine situations, not just as a freebie handout as they would if there was nothing to lose.

Not gonna happen. Really really old stuff... they even had a thread with over 100+ pages about this.

Giving one of the most toxic/spiteful communities out there this option is a recipe for disaster. You'd have all chatting "BEG FOR IT, NOOBLORDS, BEG!" in every match, and people would be forced to capitulate if they wanted to take advantage of the feature. It's a good idea, but my faith in League players is too low to think it would work.

Ryokosan10/1/2014, 4:16:47 PM1 votes

+1, really goood idea, it will show who is a honest player and good person :D

Astral Duck10/1/2014, 3:50:56 PM1 votes

No, it shouldn't happen - Reason being is it's just a system people could abuse.

SapQT10/1/2014, 7:08:14 PM1 votes

I am all about this, though I think it would have to be only available to non duo Q'd players to avoid abuse.

cool trick

So I think this is a great idea, however there is a couple problems with some of the posts I read. First of all, if the winning team gets a decrease in LP, they aren't going to give the opposing team mercy. It would be great if people were that honest, but it just doesn't work that way. Secondly, especially in lower tiers, people are just jerks. If some guy is having a bad day, or he's upset because he died a lot in game, he, or she, may just say no to be an A**. I think the best course of action would be to make it automatic. If someone leaves the game, that team automatically gets mercy. However I do not think the team that does not have an afker, should get reduced LP. It is not their faults someone on the enemy team afk'd, therefore they should not get punished for it. However this is all just my personal opinion I guess. Oh and by the way, new Sion OP.

Agreed

I also prepared a suggestion for a new thread i was going to make that somehow is similar to the mercy.

I just got an idea for the good of most summoners in the ranked system.

We all know that we have the surrender/forfeit game option. I suggest that the voting results are confidential until all votes are made.

-If the votes end 4 surrender and 1 decline or 3 surrender and 1 decline, the person that declines the surrendering vote should get a lower LP punishment for losing. That will encourage summoners to vote NO, so less people will agree to surrender and more people would vote to get less punishment (not quit).

(The punishment should decrease for 20 to 30 percent)

Taking in concern the AFK summoners I suggest that they should be more severely punished and the other summoners should get some forgiven LP. The total sum of all forgiven LP will be the the same number of LP that the AFK summoner would get as punishment.

The reason for I suggest this, is that I feel like a victim of low ranking for those situation.

If you look at my match history, I have lost 7 straight games mostly for those reasons. I was on promos for bronze II, now I am around 40 LP on bronze IV. That made me lost all hope and made me feel like quitting ranked for the second time because I feel like I will never reach silver and also like I should not even try to before season rewards day because I can only play on weekends (for proof look at match history).

To be honest, most of the times I feel like if I am playing with some wind-up toys that I should keep monitoring and turning them straight to the finish line or some kids that need babysitting for just one night because if I do not babysit them through the night, they end up killing each other.

Pryotra10/1/2014, 3:05:19 PM1 votes

Great idea when it was suggested, still a great idea. As Frost said, Ultimately, abusing players to abuse this system is for the tribunal system to handle.

Considering that is down for the moment, this would have to wait till it's back.

Darkhearth10/2/2014, 7:20:07 PM1 votes

I keep getting kicked from the server in ranked, it has happened in 3 of my last 5 games and I'm pretty tired of it. Most times I get "Defeated", once I got "Leave" but not a single "Loss Prevented", why is that not working anymore?

soulbanana810/3/2014, 12:50:11 AM1 votes

It's not a bad idea, but when would you know when to not grant mercy?

dialMARK4acti0n10/1/2014, 4:56:19 PM1 votes

This looks way too good
