How to get a Gank from your Jungler (IN-DEPTH)

Davaken·11/26/2017, 4:30:47 PM·47 votes·3,011 views

So I just hit D5 this season as a jungle main, and one of the few problems I faced, were teammates not understanding why I didn't gank them, so here are some steps you can take, to make sure your jungler does gank you:

Step 1 - Make sure your lane is gankable: No jungler wants to waste his/hers time going mid, just for that Lissandra to peace the **** outta there, because you don't have the necessary cc/damage to kill her, before she uses her dash. Here are some things to consider, if you want to know if your lane is gankable or not:

a) Your level, remaining hp, cc, damage, mobility and cooldowns available (summoner spells included.)

b) Your opponents level, remaining hp, cc, damage, mobility and cooldowns available. (Think of the matchup)

c) Your junglers level, remaining hp, cc, damage, mobility and cooldowns available.

d) The state of the lane. Are you behind or ahead? How far has the minions pushed? Your/Your opponent's current positioning.

e) Wards. If the enemy has midlane lit with wards like a damn Christmas tree, ganking will be tough.

I know this is a ton of information to process, but the best way to determine this, is to imagine a ganking scenario in your head. If the ganks 100% works out in your head, you can go on to the next step.

Step 2 - Have your lane gankable, when your jungler is near you: If you are playing top, and your lane just went from not gankable, to gankable, but your jungler is all the way down botlane, it won't help you very much.

Step 3 - Communication: If you think your lane is gankable, just ask your jungler nicely for a gank. Don't spam-ping, don't demand a gank, just ask. Remember that your jungler getting off a successful gank, is just as important for him as it is for you. It is in his best interest to score and assist/kill and maybe a tower.

Step 4 - Play the gank well: Wait for the right moment to all-in your opponent, so your jungler can followup, or let him engage and followup yourself. If you play a gank really well, chances are, your jungler will obtain enough faith in you to gank you again, or maybe even camp you. Also, remember that a gank doesn't have to result in a kill to be successful.

OPTIONAL Step 5: Don't flame the ever-living **** out of him. (Pretty self explanatory but still worth noting)

Hopefully this helps. Any questions/feedback is appreciated. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

EDIT: Thanks for all the comments and feedback! This is the reason why posts like these are worth writing ^^

Well written, and very appropriate at all ELOs.

For all junglers reading this, as a support, give me a heads up before you gank the lane. Maybe a ping & comment, then wait a couple of seconds for me to get into position. Nothing sucks more than a jungle gank 1v2 because my abilities are all on cool down and I can't do anything to help.

Keep up the good work, Davaken, and thank you to all the junglers out there that put in more miles in one game than any other position.

Another thing. Stand on the opposite side of where your jungler is ganking from. Your lane opponent will instinctively position themselves opposite of where you are (to avoid poke). This puts them closer to your jungler and makes it easier for them to jump in.

Nope. if my top laner hard countered himself, and also picked something with no gank potential. its 100% my fault that hes 0-9.

This. So much this.

"omfg jg never ganks but their jg is here all the time"

Well, you have your lane shoved under their tower 24/7. It's not happening... and no s*** you're being ganked, you're shoved out.

I like this, I wish the forums was more of this.

A few things I think could be added.

Do not take alot of losing trades for CS and then think your lane is gankable because you're pushed to turr but would be killed if your jungler were to try and gank, unless your jungler can 1v1 the opponent in their minion wave, this will usually just end badly. Take the CS lose to keep your health high enough to fight when your jungler comes.

If your jungler is coming but has not yet revealed himself, do not charge at the opponent in an obvious fashion thinking he is not going to figure it out and try to fight you, move up so it seems more like you've messed up and put yourself out of position so they will use their CD's to gap close and try to kill you.

Ping as much information as you can, warding habits, mia, jungle sightings and especially your laners SS's. Summoner spells play a huge factor in gankability but your jungler has little chance of being able to keep up with laners SS's on his own.

Recognize that sometimes whether its your fault or not, your lane is lose, and play accordingly without throwing the game or trying to blame the jungler. If even a 2v1 against your laner would go questionably because he's gotten such a lead and/or is a strong champ in the matchup, a good jungler will not gank that lane. More than likely the enemy jungler will hang around that side of the map thats strong, and be ready for that counter gank that will snowball that side of the map very harshly. Be ready to just give up cs and maybe even turret to stay alive and maybe try to make a play elsewhere they wont expect, like a roam bot.

My favorite thing is when my top laner flames me for not "counterganking". Cuz, you know, I can just stop time and appear top lane at the exact second you get your ass fucked whilst pushed to enemy tower without a single ward. #1337strats

I went in on a 0 mana Ryze, even got him to burn his flash and probably would've killed him if I died for the dive. Meanwhile, Renekton was farming minions the entire time despite the early pings starting from when I was still at red. To make a point, I ignored him for the entire 20 mins of the game, nearly lost to a fed Ryze but who cares about top lane when your ADC will win the game for you.

So many times I get one of two scenarios:

I go to gank a lane: they go in way ahead of me, even if I blow ghost or flash over a wall I can't get there in time. They die, and depending on the person I was trying to gank (Lee Sin/Fizz) I may die too if I arrived... So if I see that happening I tend to not gank that lane or if I did and failed I won't gank it again.

I go to gank a lane: they want me to engage and ping for it several times or ask in chat. I go in. They retreat and leave me to die. Then they start yelling at me for "feeding their lane". I once even had someone promise they'd go in. They go in then as soon as I arrive they go back to their tower and b to base.

If you seem like a player who is bound to do one of these two things, I am very likely to never gank your lane.

The Yetii Rider11/26/2017, 11:27:43 PM5 votes

Important to note - there are just some situations where a lane will never be gankable. If you are playing a very low CC lane (Lucian Sona, Ez Sona) and your opponent is slippery (Cait Janna, Sivir Braum, Kalista Alistar) and your jungler is someone with low CC, low mobility or low damage (Nunu, Master Yi, Shyvana, Udyr) then ganks just will not happen. They can't. Sucks to be you. Some comps are just worse than others in the early game.

Also junglers may simply prefer not to gank. If they don't gank a single lane for ten minutes while the enemy jungler gets five ganks in that time, that's not on just the jungler. It's also on you for dying. I can't tell you how many times someone has complained about being camped and I've said "if you died the first time you should have seen the second coming. He knows he can kill you, of course he's coming back." If you get camped, CHANGE YOUR BEHAVIOR to make yourself harder to gank.

Red Wreckage11/27/2017, 5:44:42 AM2 votes

I can manage all that as a top laner....only problem is, the junglers I get in low elo are just complete garbage most of the time. I see them in river top side, I start playing to set up a fight, pinging and everything. Soon enemy laner is locked in a 1v1 with me, I see map....my jungler is at enemy's red setting up a ward at an already cleared camp, on his way to check krugs. like wtf...

I can try and freeze lane and shit near my tower, ping summoners etc. but most of these silver junglers are just pure shit. I think that a lot of them are jungling cause they can't lane for shit.

My Rule number 1 while laning , never ask for ganks , just learn how to putplay the enemy 1 vs 1 , but if h comes to help , then no problem , but some junglers are just cowards , if you have a Darius who needs help vs a teemo and the jungler doesn't help , then it's the jungler' fault , it happens a lot in low elo here

Hogwash. All of it.

T R Y P 11/27/2017, 3:52:51 AM1 votes

A word to the junglers out there that "tax" lanes... There is no such thing as tax it is theft and very bad theft if you aren't getting a crucial level out of it. Leave the lane alone... if your laner is missing you freeze it preferably in front of your own tower. You do not kill minions after a gank unless you are pushing the minions to enemy tower (that means the siege minion needs to be targeted by enemy tower) You should only do this with intentions of damaging tower or if laner is basing and walking back to lane. 99% of the time it is better to freeze it in front of your tower. This really goes for supports too. draw the minions to the side so it freezes in front of the tower. This is exactly how you want the lane if you are walking back.

AirKingNeo11/27/2017, 11:07:26 PM1 votes

That implies your jungler knows when someone should be ganked or even does gank.

Most junglers forget they're effectively the 'support' of top lane. Why? That's how the meta is. Riot should fix it, but won't.

What do I do if my lane isn't gankable, but my Jungler still tries to gank?
