Vi in the Top Lane

Hey all,

Am wondering about your thoughts on vi top. Is it viable? It is sort of fun. And it seems to be good, especially because she was originally intended for the top lane. She has a shield for trades. A high damage dash that gives her nice mobility. A passive that increases her burst and dps damage with extra attack speed, armor pen, and damage. And an auto attack reset that gives her nice poke in lane and extra auto attack damage. And her ult gives her great dive potential for taking out carries when fed. One huge disadvantage with her top is that her main damage ability (her Q) has a huge cool down early on. Does this ruin her toplane viability? Maybe a way to bypass this would be to max her W or possibly E first, to move her main damage in lane to something without a huge cool down. But this seems like it isn't optimal. Thoughts?

viable? not likely her mana costs dewour her early, and she needs to spend mana to keep up with other toplaners, w isnt enough

I haven't had too much problems with her mana. It is a bit limiting, but buying a mana pot seems to help.

I think starting with item 2041 is the way to go.

Landing her Q is difficult because of the slow and charge, but at least it goes through minion waves. E can be used to poke if you time it right.

Honestly, top lane is wasting her potential. She's a monster jungler, but a mediocre top-laner unless you're against a glass cannon assassin (in which case you can shit on them with the right build).

Vi in a solo lane is not bad.

She is of the few champions who can go toe to toe against Riven, and win. The only concerns are that her abilities have fairly high cool downs and mana costs to them early on.

If you wastes any of her abilities, she is going to be punished severely.

Yes, I have noticed that I win the lane if i hit my Qs, and lose if I don't. I can win very hard if I hit most of my Qs. But it seems kinda risky. Maybe it's only good against people with low mobility who can't dodge them.

OK. I should stick with her in the jungle then. Kind of disappointed she isn't a top lane champ.

She doesn't go top because a lot of champions can beat her. J4 absolutely dumpsters vi in a straight up 1v1, tanks are too tanky for her, and most melee tops have more tankyness/sustain or damage to beat her, such as irelia and hecarim.

There are too many champs that will do what she does better.

If you want damage and CC, go j4 top, hecarim, irelia...

CC? pick a tanky top laner, like maokai/sion/
