Upgrading Frostfang to Remnant/Eye of the Watchers is a noob trap.

This upgrade really makes no sense. It's 950g for 200 health and 15 AP. That's 533g worth of health and 326g worth of AP for a total of only 856g of stats. In order for that to be worth it the spare ward has to be worth more than 94g just comparing it to buying raw stat items and it's just not. The opportunity cost of not building towards your next item are even more detrimental. Practically nobody that understands the game is ever upgrading to Remnant/Eye and it feelsbadman. We want to finish our items before moving on to the next and we want to feel stronger when we do so. It's a feeling of accomplishment. In its current state, upgrading past Frostfang is just a trap for players that haven't spent the time doing the math and that's not healthy for the game either. It's how the old boot enchantments used to be and that didn't feel good either. Please do something to make this upgrade worth it.

The gold efficiency is crap, yes, but people upgrade into Remnant for the extra ward. When you're at your ward limit, having to go back to base so you can throw another ward on Baron/Dragon is very inefficient. Having the extra ward charge is worth it every time it matters, and more than makes up for the gold inefficiency.

Support itemization gold efficiency is a whole other discussion, especially for the Remnant upgrade, but it's an upgrade path support players are expected to take once the game goes late. That extra ward charge can make all the difference in the world if you have it and the enemy support doesn't.

That said, Remnant needs some stat buffs or other compensation because it is a gold sink. But it's not a noob trap, as you've said. It's Riot having nerfed an item that other lanes have abused.

Edit: just look at ProBuilds for any meta support and you'll see that nearly every time a pro/challenger/master tier support player builds down the Frostfang path, they upgrade to Remnant or are on their way to getting it. I guarantee you it's for the vision, not the stats.

Doesn’t eye/remnant give extra sightstone wards, if so doesn’t it create more value to the item. It might create a risk/reward system where you could choose to either finish the item with more wards or have less wards but be able to complete your next item faster. If it is still too weak in terms of gold value, then maybe they can just buff the amount of ap you get from the item

Ya, riot nerfed the stats on upgraded ward items alittle too much and I think the meta has changed enough for them to come back..
