If you get sunfire before her black cleaver then its good for mao.

But at some point when she's stacked enough AD and Leth, that LvL7 mastery emote starts to get spammed.

Maokai doesn't fight riven. Just buy frozen heart and nudge her with Q every time she slips up. It's a complete denial of engagement. I'm sure he'd lose an all out fight, but that's just frankly not necessary. A Riven who doesn't snowball is just... a non tank top laner.

Garen, if he isn't complete garbage tier, is a huge riven counter. You can beat garens if they mismanage their cds. On that note:

Nautilus (only early);

Nasus (only mid);

Fiora (skill matchup early, becomes kinda dumb mid/late);

Jax (skill matchup early, outscales hella hard late);

Tryndamere (don't die early, you win after 9);

(mostly in renektons favor as long as you don't screw up);

Jayce (skill matchup, but perfect jayce > perfect riven);

Trundle (complete slaughter as long as you don't die early. You also win as early as lvl 1 and 2);

XinZhao (should beat her at all stages unless she somehow gets ahead);

Olaf (if you know how to axe reset properly, completely domintates);

Irelia (hardcore wins after sheen as long as you dont give her a lead. Can also out trade if you let riven engage);

JarvanIV (pretty good vs her as long as you dont let her get a lead. I think she outscales, though);

DrMundo (it's mundo. She abuses hard early. but if you can make it to mid without her getting fed, you should be fine);

Darius (skill matchup, but he slaughters her if you can get a solid 2 kill lead);

Pantheon (The one and only I win lane every time champ)

Teemo (hi satan);

Quinn (wins early/mid can be outscaled late);

That's all I can think of that should have matchups entirely in their favor vs Riven if played properly.

As a riven main myself, I can attest' to the accuracy of this. The most annoying matches as a riven player are panth fiora jax quinn and sometimes darius.

Hey no problem. Ive used words wrong in the past, just figured if youre going to use a word you would want to do it right.

Im just the kind of person that tells people "Hey, one of youre suspender clips is clipped to your underwear." I mean would you rather not know youre using words wrong? That person who downvoted me sure would.

Words are kinda like bullets. If you shoot them and hit what your aiming at, no problems. But if you miss, you may still hit something you werent aiming at. Then people have to figure out if you meant to hit the other thing on purpose and it gets messy.

The "Iv" instead of "Ive" was a typo, that "...under underwear was some kinda derp not sure how I missed it, and I typoed (not a word) another missing e in werent.

As for all the apostrophes though, not so much. I purposefully avoid those on the League forums because EVERY preview you read by hovering the mouse over a topic uses a symbol code for each ' used.

Hover over some topics and you will see:

&#0 39; (no spaces)

This is in place of a normal apostrophe... for each and every one. While I do often skip them in casual writing, I just avoid them on these forums cause I cant stand knowing that code can show up. Granted its not likely to show up in thread responses, but its just a standard mental note "dont use ' on League forums."

So I know youre probably just trying to be a snarky troll, but the time you spent on that brought no edification to anyone and honestly kinda made me laugh at what I can only assume is a sad trolling attempt to "correct someone who corrected someone else." The difference being someone used a word with an opposite meaning and I tried to help them not make that critical contextual error in the future... you added a bunch of apostrophes I purposefully avoided and corrected typos on a forum post I didnt really proofread. Check your life priorities, you could have spent that time actually trying to help someone.

between a good riven and a good garen, the garen loses because the riven can always avoid taking damage. so even if you had the damage to kill her before she kills you, she can always kite out of your engagements.

the biggest issue is that when you try to hit her with decisive strike, the animation is long enough that she can either interrupt it with a w stun, or dash out of it with her e and absorb the damage before the attack connects, every single time.

her early game is godlike, while garens early game is nerfed to shit. she entirely controls the lane at lvl 1 to 4.

Tbh it's less about Riven's early game being godlike but more about her kit being amazing against Garen (long Q animation enables her to do short trades whenever she likes and bait his W). But yes, a decent Riven will never lose to Garen unless there is some serious camp involved.

Pantheon pre 6. His Q CD is shorter than Riven's E, so you can just keep chucking spears and slowly poke her down. Post 6 she can just all in you but if you are far enough ahead and play smart it isn't much of an issue.

im aware that pantheon is a broken champion early, but her being able to fight you post 6 means he not really a counter. Im talking about someone who at all points in the game can shit on riven.

Also if the riven is smart and max's e its basically just a farmfest with you getting slightly more cs until she can all in you.

Wouldn't matter if she maxed E. CD Has 10 9 8 7 6 CD based on level. Panth's has a flat 4 seconds. At all points Panth can just poke her down with the Q. If he plays correctly he can 100% zone her from the farm. If Riven has no farm then she can't kill you if she all ins you at level 6. If an under farmed riven can kill you as pantheon then you don't need to look for hard counters to riven, you need to look up guides on how to play league.

thast what i said, you would get a 10-30 cs lead. But thats really not that big considering she can still all in you from behind.

If you only have a 10-30 CS lead as Panth vs Riven then you need to practice last hitting and zoning. You should have at least 60+ which means you will have enough damage to make the riven work for her all in. If she misses anything then you outtrade her. If you kill riven at 6 then it is 100% over for the riven. Riven's only chance in the panth lane is to win the first all in at level 6 but if you are CSing and zoning correctly as panth you'll be far enough ahead that she won't be able to touch you.

When I see a Riven on the enemy team I always just pick Chogath . Renekton is better against Riven than Cho but he does have enough to beat her in most if not all points in the game, though I will have to try out the new changes for Cho'gath since he is getting changed tomorrow but I still feel he'll do just as fine with the new changes and in the end do even better in the late game.

Teemo Teemo, kinda. It's a lane that's easier on paper than in practice, as any misstep could mean your death - but if you play it nicely there is little Riven can do.

But grab some additional armor on your runes or items (preferably both) - else she will kill you in one combo at level 6.

not many champions. shes incredibly strong early game which is all that matters in league of legends at S7.

Quinn Pantheon Renekton Fiora Garen Illaoi Urgot can beat her and its a favorable matchup for them

also Kennen i forgot that one

Maokai Nautilus Trundle -> can survive her. trundle actually has advantage. they just can not die to her.

the biggest problem if your backline is unaware of where riven is mid-late game only to get one hit by her from fow. basically in team fights cc the riven and dont go for the backline of enemy if your a top laner. big miistake.

The only one that beats her at all stages without the obligation of getting ahead early game is Fiora but its definitely a skill matchup so its all up to you, if you outplay her (which you will after some practicing, fiora is not that hard once you get used to her) there is no way she can beat you in any stage of the game
