How easy is Riven to paly

Pernelopy·9/24/2015, 4:01:20 PM·5 votes·1,500 views

I know i'm probably going to get all the hate for asking this, but how many people think Riven is easy to play and how many people think Riven is really hard to play. Im just wondering because im have probably the single hardest time I have ever had trying to pick up a champion with her.

Honestly speaking, she's fairly easy to get the basic mechanics down, but has one of, if not the highest skillcaps in the game. Not to mention, she's somewhat weak right now.

Best thing to do is watch some videos of BoxBox and learn how to animation cancel. The key to Riven is learning how to trade effectively in lane

I think she's medium to learn, manage cooldowns etc.

But then again it could be just me completely sucking at Riven.

Her statistics prove that she is a pretty hard champion, people in these board just qq a lot about her and then they think ahri is hard because she has to land 1 skillshot while being a mage who can switch to an assasin just for the lolz whenever she wants. Everybody on this planet seems to know how to aa cancel and animation cancel with her ( in lane its damn hard to do against moving targets, probably the hardest thing in this game) and win every unfavorable matchup and snowball 30/0 if you ask people here. In reality all rivens I face are GODAWFUL, even the champs that she hardcounters often win against her. Practise does the trick :)

i would say hard, because while you can dodge with e, and do fun things with q, your ability to go hard is limited until you can master her fast combo. auto-q-move with every q. it seems simple in theory, but actually hard to do. So in a skill match up and weird champ match up, your ability to do well depends on your being able to out trade.

I played a riven game yesterday, I never play her in pvp because i haven't gotten her fast combo down quite yet. I got fed af, but only because my jungler spoon-fed kills to me and i went large. Also because my lane opponent was stupid.

I honestly think Riven is rather difficult against aggressive and competent enemies. She's honestly pretty hard to play against people who understand how garbage your sustain is and thoroughly abuse that fact.

ScreamPaste9/24/2015, 5:10:49 PM2 votes

Despite what the circlejerk would have you believe, Riven is surprisingly hard to learn. No champ in this game has a skill floor that is too tremendously high, but relatively speaking hers is in the upper levels.

She hard and easy, yes, mastering her is hard, but seeing ya dont have 2 pre high dia, she's ez af

I bought Riven and got a popup message that I was promoted to Diamond 2.

She's easy to play as long as you know how to press buttons. However just pressing buttons is like a fraction of her damage. That's where she becomes hard to play, because if you want full damage out of her. you'r going to need practice.

Easy to play, can be hard to completely master.

TyroneWatermelon9/24/2015, 6:41:54 PM1 votes

pretty easy to play and master. nothing special, just the basics of the game and animation cancel.

I tried Riven for the first time not too long ago(Like a week at the most) So I feel I have a good idea as a newbie to her. She is I feel even easier to play than Garen which is known as one of the easiest in the game, but vastly more impactful.

As long as you have seen Riven before and know what her moves are, you will already have mastered her when you try her for the first time. When I first played her, I got fed as hell when I was very unsure with her due to how simple she is. You got one of the strongest melee dueling skills in the game (Q) which also is CC at the end. A very short CD stun that is very spammable. And a dash that gives a massive sheild that is spammable that you can use to go in or retreat with ease with. Also forgot to mention her Qs are also dashes. Her ult is an easy to hit excute and massive steriod to an already powerful champ.

I can assure you that even never playing Riven before, you will very likely become the person that carries your game.

For aa resets u just need to be fast, but that not make the champion high skillcap.Because people forgot that they dont play starcraft and ur champion cant use more than 8 moves at one second (In low diamond, plat, gold silv most of people cant use 8 moves at 1 second) . Pure reflexes are not so skillful as people think(u need enough skill but many people can achieve it), skillful is to react at your opponent moves while u use skillshots (riven dont has this), for example the moment your opponent starts to cast something if u have fast enough reflexes u can use a skillshot to a 'immobilized target'. Riven's strategical skill is on next lvl if u want to be successful . Riven's mechanical skillcap = a bit above average Riven's strategical-tactical skillcap = 10 times above average

How easy to play? Fairly simple to pick up like every other champion.

How easy to play well? It can be quite difficult if your enemies know how to handle you during laning and teamfights, like many other champions.

Riven is a pretty easy to play/faceroll champion, but the difference betw. an average Riven and one who knows everything about her and how to use her properly is massive. BoxBox is the biggest example of this; he does shit on Riven all the time that I still can't believe is possible. The most obvious trick with Riven is animation cancelling, basic example is Q-->auto attack-->Q-->auto attack-->Q-->auto attack, so you can get three hits of Q and three enhanced passive hits in one combo. Also when doing this, click on the enemy to AA after using an ability, the delay difference from just letting the character attack .vs. clicking right after Q is really noticeable.

Here's my analysis of riven's design. I usually copy paste it into hate threads, but you can have it for some thought:

Every single aspect of riven's kit is interact able. All of her abilities are skillshots, they can all miss or be dodged. She's not pantheon with a point and click ranged spear for harass on low cd and a point and click stun and one non point and click skill that's only used when they're stunned anyways.

Anyone who fights riven can outplay her by the nature of her kit. In exchange, she has tools to survive bad lanes or falling behind such as her shield and waveclear to farm under turret, and a close range stun to deter dives.

You know what her kit does, you know what her skills are and you should have an idea of what kind of combos she wants to use.

At the very least you can count and know that her third q is the hopping knockup one. It is telegraphed by the 2 qs preceding it, and has a longer animation. Any cc or knockback on her during this animation will fizzle her q leaving her not only without it's damage and the empowered auto she would have hit you with during the knockup, but giving you a chance to get free damage on her that's guaranteed to not be shielded.

You know that her shield has a decent cooldown early game and only lasts for a second so if your ranged harass has a shorter than ~10 second cooldown you know that if you use it on her and she shields it then you can use it on her again on cooldown for either free damage, to force her to try and trade with you when she has no shield up, or to zone her from the minion wave until she has her shield back.

You know that she probably wants to go on you, so position yourself where you know she'll jump on you right when the jungler comes. Her mobility doubles as her damage, so she'll be boned.

If you dance around on the outside edge of her range you can bait her into going in on you and then back off. She'll have wasted one or two spells just to close the gap and will have to get zoned from the wave now because she's worthless without cooldowns.

In a fight, you know that she wants to windslash you at low hp, so you can save something like a fizz e or diana ult or something to dodge it when you feel like its probably going to come at you, and avoid a lot of her damage that way.

She already has counterplay woven into her kit. She's not a ball of stats. Therefor (amoung other reasons) she won't be getting a rework - or at least if she ever does it will be completely different from darius/garen/skarner/mord and for different reasons entirely.

Depends on your playstyle. Assassin mains should be able to pick her up relatively easily. Tank mains not so much.

Ladrac9/24/2015, 4:20:49 PM1 votes

Easy to play, hard to master. Just remember to autoattack between Q's...and it's enough for a begginer with her. Then you can learn to use your Q to hop over small walls...but everything, step by step. And, you must do well in lane...if you do bad and lose your lane, the chances to get fed are weaker after. That's why a lot of Riven players bring ignite instead of teleport.

BakedLotion9/24/2015, 5:08:23 PM1 votes

She's actually really hard. You need to pay for face surgery every other week because of all the face smashing on your keyboard.
