People need to stop defending the new Thornmail

Let me start by saying this : I'm perfectly fine with the concept of the new Thornmail. It's supposed to be more efficient against life lsteal while being less punishing for people without lifesteal.

What's the problem then? It's less efficient against lifesteal than what it used to be if the enemy only has one lifesteal item (which is usually the case). Even if new Thornmail applies GW, the enemy heals more through it than the damage they take, which was not the case with the old Thornmail.

The new Thornmail also has good things going for it though, it's more effecient against champions with two lifesteal items or with built in healing, and also halves healing from outside sources. But, these things are more situational and makes Thornmail less constant than it was before.

Finally, the last problem with the new Thornmail is the price, which is not justified even if it has the potential to be more useful than the old one. It's less cost efficient than it used to be.

tl;dr : The new Thornmail is generally less efficient and more situational, while getting it's price raised for pratically no reason.

New thornmail wasn't built around punishing champs with lifesteal over all others. It is meant to make tanks a less appealing first/primary target for adc's and other aa champs. It punishes lifesteal and non-lifesteal champs alike by reducing their healing/hp regen every time they auto you and returning some minor damage. It isn't and never was designed to make lifesteal champs take more damage than they deal when attacking you.

Don't you want to be the primary target as a tank though?

well yes... but the tank makes himself the target by engaging on enemy

if he just stands there no one is gonna look twice at him... but if the tank dives in engages etc then he has to be targeted cuz he will still do damage too

Yes you want them to focus you - but the healing/shielding for adc's just made it so it wasn't punishing enough to adc's in the majority of cases. Having healing reduction helps fix that. And you can either hope to be the main target or to be tanky enough they try to get past you to focus squishy targets first and you use your cc to punish them for that by letting your backline hit them for free while the enemy adc is cc'd.

So yes and no. You don't want the adc free firing into your backline, but you don't want to just get whaled on and not have your team return damage on them.

Grevious Wounds is better than people give it credit for. You said it's situational, but most fighters have some source of self healing, sometimes very powerful, so it really helps with dueling them - bramble vest ensures that tank who somehow goes 3-0 in lane won't get outscaled due to sheer healing. Also it has cold steel now.

Fighters aren't usually targeting tanks in the first place.

Fighters will almost always target a tank for long periods of time, would said tank be a toplaner.
