Saving your game before it happens: In lobby voting system

Extrana·9/23/2015, 12:09:57 AM·37 votes·3,426 views

You're queuing for ranked. You're 1 win away from getting out of bronze and into silver. This is the game you've played over 800 long, frustrating, and difficult games to get to. The queue pops and you get into the lobby. You're the first to ban and the first to pick. You're teammates suggest bans, and you follow them. You don't want your team upset. After taking turns banning, its your turn to pick. You want to win your last promo game, so you obviously pick your best role: jungle. You feel confident you can float around the map and put down enough pressure to carry your team to victory. You lock in Udyr and wait anxiously, anticipating the other teams picks. Forward 6 picks. The last 2 people on your team are picking their champions, and neither of them says a thing. 1 second left to pick, and you breath out a sigh of frustration: you'll be joining another lobby. But wait, they BOTH LOCK IN AT THE LAST SECOND. YOU NOW HAVE A TRISTANA AND TWITCH BOT LANE. YOU PLAY THE GAME BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO DODGE AND YOU END UP LOSING THE LAST GAME OF YOUR PROMOS BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WAY TO AVOID PLAYING THIS 20 MINUTE WASTE OF TIME. tHANKS RIOT.

I don't want this to happen anymore, to any other players. I want there to be an option where, in situations like the one presented above, players can dodge the lobby with no consequences. I suggest that riot implement a system in which your team can put it to a vote, and (in a majority +1 vote similar to the surrender system) you can re-queue and save yourself and your elo from a 20 minute waste of time. In this system, situations in the champion select that could cause a loss of your game can now be controlled. This not only denies people from trolling in ranked, but allows you to progress further based on your skill.

Pros: •Fewer Games lost (higher chance to escape elo hell edit:for the skilled league of legends players) •Solo-queue trolls lose their motivation to queue for ranked, improving ranked play for the competitive •Favored "meta" team picks, improving game experience •FEWER GAMES LOST (riot plz)

Cons: •Longer ranked queues •Longer ranked games •New way to breed toxicity in the lobby before the game starts (possible situation where teammate wants to dodge queue and no one complies, so they end up being rude all game [ but its an online game people are rude ]) •Duo queuing with a fellow troll negates this system and makes you a new form of cancer, rightfully named "Super Cancer"

Please leave your feedback below, I'd love to see what other people think of this system.

I don't think "fewer games lost" is a good pro. There won't be fewer losts, as the other team loses when you win. Maybe more satisfactory, even games?

Also, barely un-meta picks like Ashe mid, Gnar jungle, Evelynn in lane, and more might be kicked just for being not quite meta.

•Favored "meta" team picks, improving game experience

This shouldn't even need to happen. Any sort of team comp should be at least somewhat viable. If you have two ADC's, that really shouldn't be the end of the world. Unfortunately, since Riot enforces the meta, this is actually a very big problem still. In DOTA, nobody would be troll if they did 5x smite or 5x ADC, because options are out there to change the meta. This locked-in meta really makes the pick/ban phase much more stressful than it has to be, which is why Riot needs to simply redesign the healthiness of the meta of the game in general so that multiple characters can fill multiple roles, and everything would be alright.

Same goes for summoner spells too. In any in-game lobby, no character or spell should be so troll that you would immediately recognize that your team would lose right off the bat. Urgot and clarity should be viable. Syndra and Taric need to be cool again. This is just ... poor work on Riot's part.

Ranked Teambuilder can be there for the meta addicts. But I like seeing Galio top a lot more than Maokai, Darius, or Riven. I like seeing variety. Anyone with me?

I just got demoted to gold iii

I was first pick, did the bans, picked annie mie to stun/fight talon. Second pick insta locks xerath after me going for the entire champ select screen "gg annie support im mid"

Ingame flamed me in all chat constantly for everything i did while watching me die to recall, blowing all his mana and cds to compete with farm,

But never doing anything the stupid automated banning system would catch because all hes doing is lying methodically

I got reported 9x for that game... but i don't believe in letting bullies have their way, and I long for the day riot agrees that people who start shit should be punished just as much as those who retaliate.

PS: Ever had a game where someone told you to kill yourself and you took offense to that? I got a two week ban for telling someone off for saying that to someone else leading to a game-long debate of the entire enemy team agreeing that telling people to die is ok because theyre p**ies for doing so*, posted about it on the forums and got banned here too for "inappropriate content". Riot's stance on all this is nothing short of sickening

I liked the story in the beginning. 10/10.

I have heard this suggestion before, and there is one thing I want to bring up, let's say that you go Lux midlane, your teammates hate Lux for whatever reason (Let's say it's their trigger word) and they vote to kick you out of the game for picking a champion they don't like.

This system is far better than what we have now, but it isn't flawless

Narasimha9/23/2015, 4:11:58 AM4 votes

I'd say no, simply because the abuse would outweigh the benefits. It wouldn't be used to stop trolls. It'd be used to stop playing 'bad' games.

"Oh, the enemy got Yasuo and Malphite? Lets dodge this one." "Whoops, they got Fiora and Vayne? Well lets try again."

Forsaken19/23/2015, 2:19:15 AM4 votes

Its a nice idea, but there has to be limits x amount of dodges per x amount of games or payment for this voting, perhaps a smaller hit then losing the match for your MMR, because if not I can see myself tempted to vote surrender everytime I play vs xyz champion or I dont get xyz role in ranked. Free dodges would be a huge problem and is really abuse-able.

But overall I think alot of the problem will be fixed if the teambuilder ranked comes out it allows players to main two roles, which one can be fill, sense people will often get there ideal role I feel alot of stress will be removed from ranked Q

  1. i think this system would be abused.
  2. it would force a meta or people would get kicked. 3.maybe those players were just trolling all game but ive won a lot of games with non meta lanes (usually bot noone likes supporting :( )just because they dont pick a meta support doesnt mean you cant win, really if you want to get out of bronze think "what can i do better" not blaming teammates. maybe pregame you could have asked where everyone was going, or maybe in game try camping bot since you know they are most likely the biggest tilt lane. just some suggestions.
Punkkee9/23/2015, 2:07:04 AM2 votes

maybe this, but for bronze + silver only. the reason is, streamers.

streamers already have to deal with huge queues. HUGE queues. enough for them to play another game. league players watching a streamer play other game, league players want to PLAY other game. league players not playing league, league not having players play league, league losing money. and popularity though the good streams are usually challenger, diamond, and plat (not including kaceytron that bronze). imagine waiting 10 minutes for a queue, only for people to get an easy dodge. whoops there's another 4-5 minutes to find another person.

plat elo tends to be either the nicest elo or the most toxic elo because there's two types of plat people plats that hate everything because they're not diamond and plats that are glad the made it out of gold and are being showered by friends with skins (hehe)

this is why i think plat shouldn't have this feature. plat should be a filter for the baddies to stay in it or get kicked out of it while the good ones who can deal with their teams in queue and in game is rewarded into diamond. there needs to be a cutoff somewhere, why not make it plat.

Gold shouldn't have it because they dont NEED it haha. it's like the promiseland of elo.

bronze and silver is horrid though. having a "you troll? kbye" feature is fine because

  1. there's alot of players in there. the queue will refill fast
  2. if there's this one kid (literal kid) whos trolling and the team doesn't want to deal with him, free dodge

also there's less kids the higher elo there are because they have an immature mind and cannot grasp the teamwork and strategy concept that is needed to climb. (kid as in young age)

tl:dr: noone wants to watch a stream with a 30 minute queue. plat should be the filter of elos, with high expectation of strategy and teamwork to move up gold is the promiseland and doesnt need it. people are chill silver and bronze need dis rito plz

I 100% agree, this should definitely be a thing. I am, as I'm sure many of you are, tired of trolls. This would be a much welcome step in the right direction for League of Legends. Let's just hope more people see this.

TurquoiseYoshi9/23/2015, 12:46:46 AM2 votes

I think it should be majority. Then the Super Cancer can't fight you. Requeueing is not the worst thing that can happen, so I think that a pure majority is fine in that situation. Otherwise, it's an amazing system.

FlashnFuse9/23/2015, 6:23:14 AM2 votes

Eh, I see the advantage of this system, but I get flamed so hard when I pick Quinn ADC. People would probably vote me out as a troll everytime. That's why I've stopped playing her in ranked games, it's not worth the pre-game stress.

CrystalizeSilver9/23/2015, 11:30:37 AM2 votes

Or, just make it so players pick one after the other instead of at the same time, with 20 seconds each instead of 30 shared. That solves this problem as well as the one the one where some people don't understand what "pick order" means.

Favoring 'meta' team comps is in no way a good thing. Yes the meta is there for a reason, but just because something isn't 'meta' doesn't mena it isn't good. Classic example:s (seriously try these if you are already good as the given champ): Zed in place of an ADC bot lane AP Fortune mid (hint, focus on make it rain, and fast track lich-bane) AD Malzahar (get manamune early, then proceed to tear through people with your passive) Any number of '0ff-meta' tank supports (sejuani, amumu, nunu, shen, rammus) Split AD/AP build on any of: Kassadin, Ezreal, Malzahar, Kog'maw Mundo jungle Janna mid as an AP tank

High59/23/2015, 7:09:18 PM1 votes

I don't want to see a system like this. I'm not against off meta picks.

The problem isn't the game. It's with a playerbase that doesn't really understand the game. Riot has always been hesitant to provide any sort of tutorial on how the game works. There are no official straregy articles, no sandbox to prcatice mechanics, etc. This leads to everyone having to reinvent the if they don't watch LCS and read the popular blogs (and very few people do).

If Riot set some grounds rules and helped players better understand the game, the community as a whole would be much stronger.

For example, team builder doesn't solve for bad picks, not understanding obj timers, not warding. It gets weak players into the game faster and that benfits no one.

Lol is a deep and fun game when people spend the time to learn how to play it.

Guy Fox Teemo9/23/2015, 11:05:08 PM1 votes

They can't out right enforce the meta, there is no pre-determined rule on what you have to pick and where everyone has to go, if you want you can go adc malphite bot lane with smite, it's not the best choice for winning and you'll probably play poorly , but Riot won't do anything about it , since the meta is not something Riot can out right enforce in their rules.
