Is it impossible to get higher rank than the rank you had last season

So far I have never seen someone who got the same or higher rank than they had last season, all golds I've seen became silvers, all silvers became bronzes, so I want to ask: Is getting a better rank than last season 100% impossible? I legit went 9-1 in placements carrying most of the game and got bronze 1, I was silver 5 last season. But most of the people got 3-4 divisions below. http://imgur.com/sCoaaGF Therefore, I want to ask, How many divisions did you drop in your placements compared to last year?

I've been waiting for things to sort of normalize before attempting my placements this season, but under similar conditions with last season's reset I did actually place higher.

You'll drop a full tier for provisionals. I placed Gold 5 from Plat 5 in S5, but I won a promo match and completely skipped Gold 4. So, just win matches and get to promos, and you might be able to skip a division moving up.

I'm hitting Diamond this year. I may be single and needing a job by the time I get there, BUT I AM GOING TO DO IT!

I went from silver 3 to bronze 4.

although it doesn't matter cause I am already silver 2 now

If the soft reset is similar to previous years, the only players for who it's mathematically possible* to get a better rank that you ended the season as would be bronze players (as the reset pulls people towards S5/S4 ish, which is down for the majority).

*=via normal solo queue. It might be possible for low silvers to queue with high golds who themselves have high mmr's going in, and get unusually high mmr gains (and a higher resulting placement) as a result.

I was D4 last season. Went 7:3, placed Plat 2 with 28 IP per win. Easy climb.

every season I go up 1 tier and get stuck on the 5th division, season 3 i got placed in bronze 5 i suck :P lol preseason got silver never got the border. season 4 got place in silver didn't get demoted to bronze at the end got placed in gold 5 got stuck in gold 5 never went beyond but gold 4. season 5 happen i got placed in silver 5 i went to plat 3 then later got stuck in plat 5 lol my curse lol now season 6 from plat 5 to silver 5 lol now i am gold 4 promos to gold 3 in less than a month. every season its easier to climb idk just a curse for me :P season 7= master for me and I can finally quit league

I actually went from silver 5 to silver 3 with a 7-3 wins

but in the 7 wins it was either an S+ or S as an extreme stomp usually 15-20+ kills and under 4 deaths

and even though i went up a higher rank than last season im still gaining 26-27 lp per win with only 10lp loss
