So, tank meta is still toxic and a thing.
Good to know Garen and multiple tanks can build one tank item and still deal more than a fed carry. Thanks Riot. Balancing is hard. You give HoN a good name.

how do you get the idea that garen is a tank?
Because fighters don't have passives that boost their defensive stats. Garen, by all builds and purposes, is a tank and a fighter second.

garen is a fighter. just more tanky than your usual fighter, because he doesnt have hard engage.
compare him to those 2

notice the difference? its a matter of power budget. he doesnt have mobility like they do and doesnt have in combat sustain. so he gets to be/build more tanky upfront while dealing the same damage.
for all intents and purposes, fighters are carries. and if youre faced with a farmed or fed fighter, you have to respect that he will kill you if you get too close. something a lot of people cant wrap their head around for some reason.
thanks man, i woulda not been able to write the same stuff without insulting him. 100% agree.
Silly poster, Garen's not a tank!
Even so, he can still build 5,000 HP and lots of armor/MR and kill any squishies plus more.
That would make him a juggernaut.
Sejuani can't kill any squishies plus more, but Garen can't ult to stun an entire team via skillshot.
There's a difference between a tank and a juggernaut (and bruisers, and a few other melee classes). Tanks a more than a bundle of stats. I mean, Diana and Morgana both build AP and some magic pen, but does that make Morgana an AP assassin and Diana an utility mage?
they made new carry things that soled it. and Magic resist is still expensiv, cause champs havent it naturally.
Tank meta isn't a thing right now.
Every class is seeing play right now, with varying levels of success. There's quite a few nitpicks and flaws, but it's definitely too varied to be a tank meta.
And try using an actual tank as your example. If Sejuani (or a similar champion) is pick/ban and clearly overpowered, that's a better indicator if it's a tank meta. Although, some tanks right now are overtuned at the moment in this meta, but so does every class.
Looking at Plat+ ranked statistics, just going by win/pick/ban rates (I'm not really up for doing much more than that) alone, I'm seeing one tank and three fighters (I'm not sure if Trundle counts as a tank, to be honest. If he does, make that two tanks, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong) in the top ten win rates with three mages and two supports. Going off play rates (since win rate isn't everything. Trundle is number one at the date I'm viewing, but a 4.78% pick rate doesn't mean he's warping the meta around him... yet?), we got four marksman, one bruiser, three supports, and two assassins. Going off ban rates, which is full of duplicates so instead of listing examples I'm just going to say we don't see an actual tank until third place (Tahm Kench, who is played in three different roles), and a "proper" tank with Poppy at a whopping 15.8%.
Anyway, what I take from this is that tanks are impactful in the current game environment, and have a place, but aren't necessarily seeing more success or crowding out other roles.
Just because tanks are actually viable doesn't make it a tank meta. Tanks have a place in the game too.
Garen isn't even a tank, and even regarding his items 2/5 of his non-boot items give him damage.
