STOP making league into Heroes of the Storm

Ooh im Edgy··2 votes·1,015 views

This new update to the mastery/rune system is quite possibly the only reason ive seen during these past several years why I might finally quit.

League exists because a group made something they wanted to see, what they wanted to play, and made it better than what was out there. It keeps going because now its a business that likes to pretend its Google sometimes by the way it "advertises" its employees and how much they must love the game. And it will die because somewhere you guys gave up on uniqueness, innovation, creativity and copypasta'd Blizzard. Seriously. You guys wont the lawsuit over DOTA so now you figure you should start copying them MORE?

Are even for real? April 1st is months away. Please tell me that there is actually a logical mind over there that is only trying to cause us woes and fear and horror for Halloween then reveal its a lie....

And look im all for evolving and staying relevant - but just because there is literally NO explaination of runes and masteries affect gameplay except learning through experiance doesnt mean they have to start shrinking it down and compliling things so there are less choices.

IMHO this was a bad move, it was cheap, and sloppy. Instead of actually making something they had better, they just changed what they had.

Masteries only gave the illusion of choice. There were right answers and wrong ones, you just had to micro it out to find which ones they were, then take them, sort them by which champion needs what, and that was that. Masteries never really offered a whole lot more than that. The way I see it, the new system intends to remove a lot of those 'wrong answers' in favor of a smaller number of more impactful and clearly-defined mastery choices.

The current mastery system isnt exaclty a "tree", so why not simply force players more down the right path? Which is what they seem to be doing.

My concern with that - while yes, you are not wrong, you're not exactly right. Just because 21/0/9 is typical and usually the best choice, doesnt mean that it is the best choice and I just dont want those options to be taken away which is where this new system is headed. I want to be able to select things that look like it makes no sense because I play cho'gath a little differently that the META. I want to be able to play troll games and not be forced into a cookie cutter version what Riot thinks it should be.

Maybe they could just do "RECOMMENDED: XYZ" and not force us to chose one over the other like they are presenting.

I think Riot's new system will actually help you a lot then by making alternative mastery paths less trolly and more viable.

And the runes!

If I knew then what I know now, I'd never have bought any t1 or t2 runes. I mean, I understand they have to fight smurfing in a free game, but forcing innocent players to grind for IP, rune slots, and mastery points (which looks like the skeleton of a game that never passed Q&A, anyway) costs a lot of time.

For the USD that'll boost me to level 30 quickly, I can buy like 50 level 30 accounts (or just 1 and tons of skins?). I'm on topic, right?

My point is that they need to explain things better, make them more immersive, guide players in their purchases, give them free IP to make those training purchases etc.

If i didnt have a friend to tell me not to buy runes until 30 I would have just like you. BUT just because they suck at explaining... ANYTHING doesnt mean that what needs explaining needs to be changed it mean they need to their job and PREPARE players.

If you were a new player after the mastery/rune change - even with less choice - would you honeslty say you KNOW what you're supposed to do?

No, of course you wouldnt and neither would any other new player. This literally fixes NOTHING.

Reducing and removing false options, noob traps, and bad choices helps players figure it out on their own. What, do you expect Riot to hand-hold you through a complex decision-making process when they can just simplify the process so they don't have to hold your hand? Sure, the rune system could still use some work, but they're making moves there too. But this wasn't a post about runes. You're meandering off your own topic. :P

I agree with Ooh im Edgy. In every game, players get a recommended item set for every champ. Yet, there are no generic mastery pages for every champ. That's something that'll help players create their own without doing hours of research at 3rd party resources.

Are you aware that HotS (which is a crappy game btw) doesn't have any form of masteries / runes ?

Are you aware that Riot is dumb-ifying theirs? What did you think a trend was lol? Season 7 they might get rid of masteries and runes altogether because its too hard for new and casual players to understand.

Here's my point - Once you start morphing into something else, guess where you end up?

Runes and masteries make the game harder to balance, because champions can get runes that cover their weak spots: cdr for riven, armor for nasus etc...

Ooh im Edgy1 votes

yea thats true. But the indivdual has the choice based on experience to cover that CDR, or go greater AD. Or maybe they go Tanky. They are options for playstyle, which truly, shouldnt be figured into the balance equation at all. 10% CDR on masteries isnt really that OP vs a few hundred gold item that does the same and more.

in support of my case - not every change Riot makes is a good one. If it was then they wouldnt need to re-balance the re-balance! And then there's GP. RIP.
