Struggling with main roles, thinking about support...need help

Hi,

New to the boards here. Just to be up front about it; I'm not a very good league player. I joke with friends that I'm in my placements and "Copper V, here I come!"

Anyway, I've been struggling to find as much success as I'd like with my main roles (ADC and Jungle), so I'm curious what people who main as supports think about switching.

What are the keys to being super successful in this role? Who are some supports that would be good to get my feet wet with? I've played some Morg support and a little Nautilus, but not much else (a little Sona, Lux, Annie too). I think I prefer tankier supports so I don't get erased if I make a positioning error.

What should I focus on? Do you think a switch to supporting as a main role could help me raise on the ranked ladder? As ADC I'll sometimes carry, but not enough. As Jungle I rarely carry, but can sometimes help others snowball. I'm wondering if I'm not in a role that is expected to carry if I can help the team be better overall.

Thanks for any ideas!

DO. NOT. EVEN. THINK. ABOUT SUPPORT....

...if you want to climb the ELO ladder. Support is the worst role in the game right now and the hardest one to climb with. Only masochistic, self-hating idiots like myself play it. Reasons why not to touch the role:

1. Can't take objectives In an objective-based game a role that cannot take down an objective - is useless. With literally any other role you can take towers and dragons even on your own (depending on items and levels) but as a support - and I mean real support, not secondary AP - you can't take single objective down even with full build at lvl 18.

2. Needs a team You can place wards at the right spots in the right time, ping everything, make a shot call like some LCS pro.... but if your team say NO you can go fck yourself because there is nothing you can do about it. It kinda ties up with above mentioned point. If you win a teamfight and your team chases one last enemy with 30% hp into the unwarded jungle instead of taking down tower and dragon... you can't do anything about it. Just have a look at this: http://matchhistory.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUN1/1584532680/201219907?tab=overview < I fed Cait with 6 kills early, just so she could throw it in mid game. Sure, we would lose because Yasuo and Udyr were too hard to carry for us, but my point is: seeing your 7/2 carry to become 12/9 in 10 minutes while there is nothing you can do about it... is the worst feeling in the game.

3.Needs a lot of game knowledge - totally different animal While with other roles your main focus is to bee good at the mechanics and your own role, as a support you have to be (in a way) walking LoLWiki. You have to know how junglers work to predict barons and dragons and prevent the enemy from taking it or taking their tower, you have to ward for your whole team, you have to ping even top and mid lane, you have to know how to lead team and do shot calling, you have to know how to recognize win and loss conditions, you have to be a therapist that calms kids down, you have to predict the enemy movement and gameplan to be able to counter it... early you have to set up lane and not only make sure your ADC won't die, you have to serve them kills as well (then hope they are not briandead and not gonna throw that lead into the shitter in mid game).

4.No appreciation Nobody cares about support, not even Riot. Your team never acknowledge you, only if you fck up. While you have to be the dufus who say s"wp" "gj" wow Malph nice outplay" every single fcking time... to make sure they will like you enough to follow your lead from mid game on. It is very frustrating and psychically demanding effort.

Seriously, just DON'T. Especially not if you are anyplace lower than Gold 3. Do yourself a favour, save yourself tons of frustration and stick to the ADC and jungle. And let's talk about those in another post.

Well, that wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement :)

Thanks for the info, good things to think about...

Ok so im a support main, and to do well in ranked its best to find a ADC main to duo with thats at the least decent at the game. And some good easy supports i think is Alistar (my main) and blitz is good in bronze just due to the fact that people that low arent that good at countering him; also bard is really fun as long as you can hit stuns and ults.
