I don't think I've ever played as someone as unsatisfying as Gangplank

One look at a GP patch history and you'll see for every one buff he ever got, 10 nerfs follow. when you get your item 3078 item 3095, you either have lost already because your entire team has lost their respective lanes because you didn't play an actual top laner

or

You still don't do any damage because you're against a tank, or against someone who can gap close your entire kit and you get to lose a 1v1 with your core items because your entire kit is negated. Here's the best part. Playing against someone who's a bruiser, you basically can't play your lane to anywhere near where you could if you literally played anyone else.

The only time I can play GP is in aram where people dont know about the bush cheese with his barrels. You can't even bush cheese in top lane because the laner just knows to stay in the middle of the lane, or you know, fight a GP because his barrel is in the bush and he can't easily double barrel you from that kind of angle

His winrate is only kept like that due to one-tricks, and you might say "Well if the best players of GP are doing fine what's the problem?" Problem is, unless you've invested over 120 games into GP or one trick him, there's no reason to play him. Literally zero. I've found this out BY playing GP, using guides on what you should take vs this and that, and it's all for naught. It's unfortunate, because GP is a really cool champion. His kit is cohesive, his theme is interesting, he has a high skill ceiling, highest maybe in the whole game, but it's NOT rewarded whatsoever. I never played old gangplank, I saw what it looked like and couldn't determine if a revert was worth it if balancing current is such a problem.

I would ACTUALLY enjoy a solely melee gangplank who's a fighter rather than a pseudo ranged champ. I would LIKE GP to be a bruiser, and make his barrels less gimmicky. Maybe even use them in the same way Gragas uses his. I don't know. What I do know is, from playing like 20-30 games of GP across multiple accounts, in a decent MMR level (playing norms). It's not worth.

tl;dr

GP doesn't do what he's supposed to, unless the other team is trolling, and even when he's ahead, he's a detriment to your team. There are better options, why keep this GP the way he is and super bad?

Mordekaiser is very underwhelming as well. I understand the GP thing though, but he's always been very gimmicky and kinda awkward with his kit. I've been decimated by people who can use barrel placement and q hits efficiently more than i'd like to admit. I also can't really land the timings myself. It's like me when I play Gnar, when it comes up, I just can't do it.

There is a lot of stuff wrong in this post

One look at a GP patch history and you'll see for every one buff he ever got, 10 nerfs follow. when you get your Triforce / Stormrazor , you either have lost already because your entire team has lost their respective lanes because you didn't play an actual top laner

First of all, release GP was BEYOND broken. 5 barrels Barrels had 60% armor pen instead of 40% Q gave mana back on kill W cost less mana Q gave more silver serpents Q gave more gold Ult had less CD Ult had more damage He had more base HP He had more base mana

He was BEYOND bonkers, literally pick/ban status. He had to be nerfed.

Second of all, that is the wrong order of items. You go item 3078 item 3142 to have a harder mid game spike (to come online faster and help your team faster)

Basically the problem you stated.

GP is a tank shredder, pull out the double passive procs (they stack, they don't refresh eachother) with a double barrel Q, use barrels with 40% armor pen, get DD on your ult for even more true damage.

GP absolutely destroys any tanks other than Malphite. After level 13 a tank is just a joke for GP to 1 v 1. They can't do anything against you at that point.

Hard early engage in laning phase is GP's weakness. He has to pay a price for his hard scaling and that is his early game. It's how scaling champions work. Remove that and he is beyond broken again.

Also how is your whole kit negated because someone engages on you? Place a barrel under you?

The only time I can play GP is in aram where people dont know about the bush cheese with his barrels. You can't even bush cheese in top lane because the laner just knows to stay in the middle of the lane, or you know, fight a GP because his barrel is in the bush and he can't easily double barrel you from that kind of angle

The triple barrel has the length of 70% of mid lane (from outer tower to outer tower) and is nigh undodgeable. The one part is also nigh undodgeable and also, placing a barrel to zone people away is a huge bonus in laning phase.

Ranged people without an instant auto (like Vel) can't contest ticked out barrels either. Placing another barrel and autoing the first is faster than their autos takes to cast and travel.

His winrate is only kept like that due to one-tricks, and you might say "Well if the best players of GP are doing fine what's the problem?" GP got a hell of a lot easier to play with the rune update thanks to runes empowering your Q so much.

Also you don't need 120 games to play GP, you need that much when you want to master one-parts. Learning the triple barrel is enough to make GP work and that move isn't hard.

I would say after 30-50 games you should have a 55-60% winrate with him.

You for sure as hell get rewarded for learning GP, playing GP perfectly is a monster to deal with. He can literally win a whole teamfight because of a single barrel combo. GP is has very few scenarios where he is bad in the meta, mainly when too many high damage bruisers are running around other than that he can be picked in any meta and still work.

Old GP was the most boring shit ever, basically spam Q as much as possible and that's it.
