Champion pricing - Why?

What is the reasoning for Riot to keep extremely low playrate champions like Aurelion Sol at 6300 BE? Has anybody from this company ever addressed the easiest solution to see higher playrates of these champions which is lowering the cost of obtaining them?

Because they struggle with what value means

Look at eternals and you'll understand pretty easily

Isn't the cost loosely based on most recent releases?

They've needed to lower the champion prices for most of them for a long time. Too many cost 6300, and since it's not based on how long the champ has been released, you have to wait for new champs to come out to either reduce the "oldest" 6300 or hope it's that time for a select 4800 champ to go down (or something, I'm not sure).

Even if you reduce Asol's price to 0 he wouldn't be played much at all. Mostly because he is extremely complicated. There are 450 BE champions, who don't see much play either: e.g Poppy and Singed. The latter is probably even less played than Asol.

Reminder Azir came out 5 years ago and is still 6300 BE.

Champ prices depend on how new the champ is. That's why older champs like Teemo and Master Yi are cheap, while Ornn and Kayn are expensive. *edit: my brain must've FF'ed at 15 while in the middle of typing this.

they should average prices out allready

the easiest solution for riot is to just add more damage on their spells and 2-3 patches later say "yeah we overdid it a bit so now we lower their armor/mr per level"

Jigglypuff11/30/2019, 4:37:38 AM2 votes

hmm I own every champ and on average own 2 skins per champ

I mean people don't really play him because he has a unique playstyle same thing with Shaco Bard Kalista Jayce Nidalee Ivern sure price has something to do with it I'm sure how much much? I'm gonna not think very much because hes been out for a while now and he has ALWAYS had a low pickrate while Kaisa Pyke Qiyana Jinx Jhin Xayah have some of the higher player rates and also are priced at 6300 BE so I really don't think his price has very much at all to do with his play rate.

Champions aren't priced on popularity, they're priced based on time since their release.

SCP 10611/30/2019, 4:19:21 AM2 votes

because kaisa the 6300 champion isn't one of the most played adcs in the game for about a year and still is now

Because champion price changes with champion release. It's not play time which determines price, it's age. And as every new champ releases, every champion's price may adjust as well.

In my opinion

Champions should be priced like this

0 - 1 years old: 6300 BE

2 - 4 years old: 4800 BE

5-7 years old: 3150 BE

8-9 years old: 1350 BE

Original 40 champions from Beta: 450 BE

Wanna have your mind blown? All the champions are easy to play. League is a decision making game. It's about having map awareness, Mana control, knowing cooldowns, knowing when to rotate, knowing when to push objectives. The game is hard

OneMustFall12/1/2019, 1:35:35 AM1 votes

Cheaper prices would not increase the playrate of a champion. People play what they want to play and champions aren't that expensive especially with champion shards for it to make any difference. Compare the playrates of Fiddlesticks (1350 BE) to Kaisa (6300 BE).

There should be a negative cost to champions

YaraUwU12/1/2019, 7:50:43 PM1 votes

Because of the BE changes getting a new champion without RP is a pain in the ass because you cant grind for it. You literally can only get it once a day or leveling up. Which punishes you for playing the game more then once a day. "riot logic"

Laçez12/1/2019, 11:04:57 PM1 votes

Unpopular opinion alert but I think people need to stop complaining about this really. BE is a free in game currency and with little actual use. If you wanna get a champion, then play the game and save up to allow youorself to do so. It's not hard really. Every game they give you BE, albeit a small amount, but BE nonetheless. Not only that but since removing the level cap and giving implemementing rewards for levelling in the form of capsules that can give you multiple champs at a time at a discounted BE-price, I don't see why people have the grounds on which to complain? I just had 70K BE, idk if that's just me and I doubt it is, but all I'm saying is it isn't hard to get these. Even if the prices don't change with regard to their age and or play rate I wouldn't complain. Imma buy Aphelios on release and for champs that I think I'll enjoy in the future with 0 problems.

I would be kinda annoyed if I saw this as an employee at Riot because not long ago I saw a post complaining that they have nothing to do with their BE. A quick side-point but wouldn't attatching prices to the play rate of champions make a clear indication as to which champs are in meta and which ones aren't? Something about that just doesn't seem right.
