New player experience is outdated and explains why there is no active players list for 2015

in 2014 Riot had 67million active players, but 2015 was never released, people speculate it's declining which explains the declining LCS viewers

why did this happen?

reason: new player experience is shit and Riot knows it

  1. outdated tutorials
  2. prices for champs/runes/rune pages are too expensive, yet we have 130 champions and more in the way
  3. it takes the same amount of time to reach lvl 30 as it ever was because Riot removed 400RP when you reach lvl 3, thus you cant buy XP boosts
  4. constant balance changes that hurt Pro players, too much pressure for theam to stick with a champ, they have to constanly adapt on a weekly basis due to the influx of too many balance changes
  5. little supported social experience, League still feels lonely to play, there needs to be public chat rooms so people can easily make new friends
  6. long-term goals in the game are outdated: takes 7 days playing ALL day to get 6300IP for a good champ, too much time, it's like leveling a character in wow from 1-60 by grinding, nobody likes grinding unless it's worth it
  7. un-supported champion mastery, has potential but Riot refuses to optimize it

however... dynamic que, hex crafting have been AWESOME additions to league which makes me still want to play it, but once i get my chest and reach lvl 5 for a champion, i need 6300IP to get another and 7 days for 6300IP is too much, it stops me from playing

One could argue that the only pay to win part of the game vividly exploits new players. Obviously it takes a really really long time to save 6300 IP so they probably figure you'll just say fuck it and drop 10 bucks for a newer champion or rune page.

Edit: I actually can't call that pay to win. It's pay simply to be a contender.

I personally agree with them making money off of mandatory things. As it is this is a free to play game and those who can't spend the money on the game even have an option now to get free cosmetics which very few other F2P games offer. If they didn't make it expensive enough for people to consider spending money then Riot would take a very large hit financially.

They haven't released player numbers, but they have released profit numbers. In 2014, Riot Games made just under 1 billion USD, and in 2015 they had a massive profit increase of over 50%, to 1.6 Billion USD.

Riot is not feeling any pain right now.
