This is an E-sport, not a GAME.

Ok people.

It's pretty simple. This is a competitive e-sport. It's not a game. If you join a match and don't give 100% you are hindering your team and wasting everyone's time. Stop joining matches and not trying, checking your phone, watching tv, not watching your mini map, and making absolutely zero effort to improve and help your team.

I can tell immediately in champ select if people are going to be dead weight as soon as they say one of a few things.

  1. It's just a GAME bro. Nope, read above.
  2. It's just normals bro. I don't care what mode it is, it's an e-sport. In sports you always try to win. That's like playing basketball and not trying at all and being like LOL IT'S NOT THE NBA.
  3. We aren't in the LCS. Of course we aren't in the LCS. That doesn't mean you don't try. If you want to play a GAME, then go play a game. Don't join competitive matches with the mentality that you are playing a game.

TLDR; Sports(E-sports) are not GAMES and require a different mindset. Stop bringing your it's just a GAME mindset into competitive matches.

All sports, are in fact, games that were originally meant to be enjoyed, imho.

And, in fact, in almost every case vast majority of 'playerbase' still plays them only for entertainment.

This statement can't be any more false. Games are meant to be enjoyed and be entertaining. For instance, any single player GAME out there. You play it at your own pace. Golf is a GAME. No one is actively trying to stop you from achieving a goal. Board games also fall into this, because each player or side has a turn and the other players aren't trying to impede them. That is the major difference between games and sports. In sports another player or team is actively trying to deny you from winning. In games they are not. Two completely different mindsets.

Then why is golf one of the most heavily followed sports? I don't pick up a game/sport because i want to be the best, rather I pick it up to enjoy it and have fun. I doubt that children start playing soccer or baseball because they want to be the best, they do it for the fun. Just because someone isn't as competitive as you doesn't mean they don't deserve to play or be shown respect. All games and sports have rules to achieve victory. You don't have to bring the A game all the time, sometimes you want to do it to relax. Does that mean you aren't trying to win? Not at all. And honestly the only time something is really a sport is when it is being played at the height of the competitive play. If there is no risk of an actual type of loss, does it matter that they aren't bringing the 110%?

Golf is not a sport, it's a game. Golf would be a sport if your enemy was actively trying to impede your ability to make a shot. In Golf, it's even considered rude to make any noise while your opponent is taking their shot. Have you ever been to any sporting arena? Try asking sport fans to be quiet while their teams are playing.

You make some valid points, but my only disagreement would be with:

Normals (especially Blind) can, and are, perfectly qualified to be more like a pick-up game where people try to have fun. You can have the super try-hards at pick-up games or you can have the ones that just want to play H.O.R.S.E or simply want to try to make wacky shots.

It's not a perfect comparison, as you are still expected to be playing the game, but it shouldn't be taken as seriously as your highschool/college/pro game. It's alright to check snapchat while you're dead :^)

Pickup games aren't done in the same environment as normals, you're thinking more like a custom game. If you soloq the other 4 didn't consent to a "less competitive and fun" game.

normals are where people go and have fun with experimenting and trying out weird builds or just playing champions they rarely do. It is really not any different from a pick-up game. Sorry but no, custom games are what you do when you want to either have wacky rules that the game isn't centered about (aka hide and seek) or when you want to play with and against very specific people. You should still play to win that doesn't mean i am going to try hard just for the sake of trying hard in a normal game since that is not way i am playing normals. If i want to go full try hard mode i go to ranked since that's what that mode is for

While I agree with you, I'd also like to note my difference between Blind and Draft. For me, at least, Blind is the "Novice" queue. It's always the place to go for trying out new champs, experimenting with random builds, or anything else where I'm not going to expect a victory. I go into blind expecting people not to play well, mostly because I'm not going to be playing well either.

Draft, however, is my "Adept" queue. It's where I go for semi-serious stuff. I like to go into Draft thinking that my team will try to do well. That's what the bans and pre-selected roles are for. I go into here so that I can practice a known champ to get better, to test the consistency of my playstyle against whatever I'm getting matched up against. It's a "Hey, this match matters, but only because I'm hoping to be a little bit better by the end of it. Yeah it won't affect my rank, but still, I'm training skills that I will soon apply to Ranked."

My grievance is when people treat Draft games like Blind games. They have every right to do so, but still, there's no reason to hinder people by playing an unknown champion or trying an unknown build or just not trying when a queue like Blind exists. I, and I'm sure many people, love getting Draft lobbies that are played in a Ranked-like fashion (everyone playing in a way that they're familiar with) while also having the "leg room" to make mistakes and learn new tactics without the threat of losing LP. There are so many ways to improve yourself and have fun that require a match where everybody is trying.

And so, I agree that normals shouldn't be treated like ranked games in terms of competitiveness. Yet I also believe that, for the health of both Queues, reinforcing the idea within the playerbase that Blind is for "novice" stuff and Draft is for "adept" stuff will go a long way towards improving the quality of the game for everyone.

It IS a game. But that doesn't give people the right to intentionally waste other people's time.

Trying to win is part of the game. If you're not trying to win, you're not playing the game.

This game is something different to everyone, don't hold hatred against others

The elitism is a bit strong in this one. There is a basic amount of effort you expect of other teammates, sure, but you shouldn't expect too much beyond that.

Zarun1 votes

False, I expect a lot from other people at all times. Humans are capable of amazing things. Hold yourself and everyone around you to a higher standard.

That is some mongolian reasoning alright.
