After playing a couple games coming back from a near month break from league
I don't enjoy this game at all anymore. I find this game to be extremely unfun and I really don't understand what the current stance on gameplay is for the departments that are working on it.
Personal things that I do find make this game feel very poor to play would include
- Damage
- LCS
- Irritating champions
- Odd and seemingly not well thought through changes in balance and overall seemingly very poor changes to gameplay such as revamped runes.
Now, please hear me out and keep this in mind throughout this post and while responding to this post: #1. I ended silver 4 last season (albeit with only 15 ranked games total) and I am not an expert on game balance (nor do I claim to be) and overall, it should be taken into consideration that I am actually terrible at this game. #2. I would like to keep things civil among this thread and not downvote eachother to hell and back (even if we disagree with what one another say, especially on rioter responses if they choose to respond at all) #3. I would like a rioter's input on this (keep in mind, they may not reflect the entire company's opinion at all) just in general and I would like to know where this game is planning on going and how.
With those things in mind, let's get on with it shall we?
Complaint #1 Damage. Overall, I feel like I'm getting bursted down by just about everything and everyone unless I'm playing an absolute tank. In the case of trading in lane, I feel that a trade is going to result in 3 possible outcomes 1.) I get half (or over half) of my health taken with just one combo or a few autos. 2.) My opponent gets half (or over half) of their health taken with just one combo or a few autos 3.) We both get half (or over half) of our health taken with a combo or just a few autos.
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like this is NOT a trade? Well, it is a trade, but overall this feels like too much in terms of damage for a trade. It's very unforgiving and as much as I want to play dark souls, this gets very old extremely quick for me.
I keep hearing people complaining about shields and how busted they are and this and that but you have to understand that we wouldn't need 3k shields if we didn't have 3k damage one-shots? This statement is extremely hyperbolic, I know, but I honestly believe that everyone overall needs some massive nerfs.
Now, you may call me heretical for this next statement, but I also believe the more broken of the two types of damage is physical damage.
Zoe's garbage true damage aside, I was really irritated to see Frost Queen's Claim, Face of the Mountain, and Talisman of Ascension go, (especially talisman) meanwhile
and nearly every crit item stay. I've only been here since the beginning of last season, so I can't say I know much about how many times duskblade has been reworked, but from what I know now, this item is an absurd powerspike on any AD champion. No wonder Miss Fortune and Jhin abuse it. If you can make use of the item, you can really feel the change in pace once you've bought it.
And Crit, well, in my own opinion, crit is degenerate. A healthy dose of crit could be a crit tied to something like Fiora's passive, where you really have to risk something in order to get it. In this game, I find that a lot of an adc's power that makes them irritating and not fun to play against is the insane amount of damage that can come from just a
. What bothers me even more is that it's RNG based. I can understand a complaint about this being RNG because nothing is more tilting than having 200-300 of your health gone with one auto because of a random luck based (and not skill based) component, even if you're attempting to outplay as much as you can.
Also, with how much damage is being thrown around, let's not forget that towers can't keep up with this. They still pose a threat, but really hardly. All it takes is one recall, and one death, and you can pretty much kiss your tower goodbye.
I often find that this game is not fun, even if I'm winning, because of the damage me or my teammates are allowed to do to somebody, and the amount of damage that somebody is allowed to do to me.
Complaint #2 LCS
I've never found LCS especially interesting to watch, but I did watch it on occasion with a couple friends. Here's the thing. I've heard about the reason damage and towers being so weak are all based around making LCS matches shorter. I'm no expert on LCS matches, nor am I some expert on the game, but I don't need an LCS match to be short to be entertaining. Half the game people are just farming and then someone almost dies but then they escape and jesus christ it's boring. It may just be me, but I personally believe perhaps the reason LCS players play so safe is partially because they cannot afford to get into any kind of fight that isn't blatantly winnable whatsoever. You don't need a match to be short, you need a match to be aggressive.
Now, you could make towers weaker and damage stronger, but overall, I honestly think that the games should just be much more forgiving in terms of mistakes, that way we actually see people... you know... fight?
That's just how I see it.
Complaint #3 Irritating champions.
Let's face it, we all have one champion that tilts us beyond belief, and it's hard in terms of balance to not be biased towards that champion in specific. However, there are universally hated champions, (the greatest memes being Yasuo and the latest addition to the game, Zoe.)
I don't understand what goes on during playtesting really, but more specifically I don't really know if Riot playtests champions in order to find out how they feel to play against. Ultimately, the champions that tilt me beyond belief when playing against them tend to be
. I do believe that these champions promote negativity everywhere in the game, and it is my own opinion that they should be changed as soon as possible. Obviously, that's not going to happen soon because there are champions that are in much bigger need of a rework (COUGH it's actually really awesome Nunu is finally getting reworked COUGH).
ADDRESSING CERTAINLYT
Because you really can't talk about tilting champions without talking about the man, the myth, and the legend.
I personally would like to know what CertainlyT thinks about the unsolicited feedback that he's gotten on his champions. He has the single worst track-record for making the most annoying champions this game has seen, and I have no idea why he's allowed to design champions without a second opinion to overrule a decision he wants to make. I understand he's largely innovative, but their are champions that are very creative without being overly frustrating to play against.
Jhin is someone I find extremely innovative while still fun to play against. Xayah is someone I find extremely innovative while still fun to play against. Bard is someone I find extremely innovative while still fun to play against. Ivern is someone I find extremely innovative while still fun to play against. Zac is another example of someone who I still find fun to play against.
CertainlyT is not the only creative champion designer, and although I don't have statistics on this, I think it's safe to say that nobody really likes this guy.
Complaint #4 Game Balance
I mean, let's be honest, what can I say about the balancing team that hasn't been said already. I don't hate the balancing team, it's just hard to believe that they're really working hard on getting this game back to a good state (but what a "good" state is for the game varies person to person.)
My personal problems with the balancing team is that there are so many random changes that really don't seem very well thought out. Remember 1-shot full AP
? It wasn't too long ago that the balancing team wanted to give
some really huge buffs.
Then, when something is seriously out of whack, it takes quite a long time for it to get fixed (
was broken for months just as one example.)
Overall, I do want to know what's going on and if I should continue to keep an eye on this game or not, because (and I know nobody really cares because Riot already has my money) this game is no longer fun for me, and I don't really find myself wanting to play it anymore, even with friends.
as a melee i am very gratefull to go against darius tbh [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]
