Placement games?? Why even bother with them?

So I actually had this idea for a while, and it's gonna sound fucking crazy, but here it is. How about riot removes Placements all together?

Reasoning: No real reason for them to exist other then to flex your e-pen over the net. Sorry but they seem utterly pointless. 10 games to decided which level of bronze/silver/gold you are gonna get put in. There isn't a valid reason behind placements other then to reset the rank/MMR (Which actually doesn't reset completely to 1200 like a normal game would do from season to season)

2nd, Players should be allowed to continue where they left off. If someone gets to diamond through hard work all year, then happen to have a few bad games in placements they are in low gold and have to climb all over again. What's the sense in all that?

If the player is meant to be in that division then if they continue to win then they should stay there.

Solution: Reset Wins/Loss, keep Rank but put it on hold. Take what the person would be ranked at from 1200 add the current MMR Divide by 2 and place them there. If that means someone in silver gets 0-10 bronze 5 placements for 10 games and their MMR is 1450 and placement MMR is 890 then have them sit at silver 5/Bronze 1 0 LP.

So why do we need to do placements? Can I actually get a 100% factual reason other then "Because riot wants us to who cares?"

I agree, they should do that for the nfl too. If a team is 14-2, they should carry that record over to the next year. Same with baseball, and all major sports. If they were good before, they should continue from where they left off right?

They affect your MMR. Tada!

I think the concept of seasons is stupid. It would make more sense if it was just a constantly continuing thing.

For rewards I'd just say have a set date each year where rewards are dished out for current rank. Also, for this to work it would make sense if they made it easier to demote. One good part about the reset is it lowers the rank of boosted animals. I know of 1 urgot main that was boosted to Diamond 5 last season from High Silver / Low Gold and is now sitting at Plat 5 trying to maintain just keeping plat for another season. If someone gets boosted without resets then they would keep for a very very long time. By making it easier to demote by making it so either people decay sooner or people demote by hitting division 2 of previous tier rather than division 4 MMR, boosted animals would still lose their rank quicker and go back to the rank they actually play at.

I'm pretty sure your solution is actually more or less how it does work in terms of the MMR calculation (or at least used to). Placement matches just give higher than normal MMR shifts, but a top tier challenger going 0-10 in placements is probably still going to place gold if not plat, despite losing all 10 of their placement matches, since their mmr coming into placements is so high.

People are intended to be set back each season to ensure theres room for fresh up and comers, and further to ensure that people have adapted to the usually major changes of preseason.
