A New system to Keep Trolls from ranked

Velgam··10 votes·2,605 views

I have noticed that on your summoner profile page it shows one's commendations such as helpful, teamwork, honorable opponent and friendly, so why cant the negative ones be seen as well and affect not only your placement with groups, but whether you are fit to play ranked. At a set amount of Trolling or leaving game/afk or intentional feeding or Greifing reports you should be prohibited from ranked games till you clear it somehow, maybe have positive commendations reduce the negative ones to an amount where you can be seen as fit to play competitively. We all know the tribunal doesnt work so a system like this would be alot more efficient in dealing with trolls, feeders and RQ'ers.

Riot started doing ranked restrictions already.

Behavioral matchmaking is just a different way of doing Prisoner's Island. It doesn't work well for raging/negative attitude problems.

i never said to ostracize them, i said they wont be able to play ranked till the get enough honours, could be from any game mode, normals, draft ARAM etc

Matthias91193 votes

That's basically the ranked restriction system they implemented. You have to play a certain number of normal draft games on chat restrict before you can play Ranked again. Making it contingent on getting honors would feel like a grind, or people would fake being nice just until they met the requirement.

They have also said they're considering "island"-type solutions for things like frequent AFKing or intentional feeding. Really black and white behaviors that are never okay.

TahmCat1 votes

thats a lie. they just restrict your chat not what type you can play. my friend had chat restrictions and we were playing ranked.

Matthias91191 votes

You can be "chat restricted" (no restriction on game modes played, limited chat), or "ranked restricted" (can't play Ranked, you are chat restricted in other modes until you work off the restriction).

Here's the official Riot post announcing it back in September: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/miscellaneous/1LJP1ovA-ranked-restrictions

Or you could call me a liar instead of doing two seconds of research. Your call.

This is bullshit though.

Honor giving isn't even based on your performance or attitude, It's based on how other people see yours.

I personally NEVER give honor. Maybe once every 100 games, and thats even pushing it.

Riot also has understood that honor is a failed system, and doesn't work as intended.

Also the chances of you getting honor from your teamates when you lose is also just about nothing.

Using honor as a system to determine toxicity is worse than kicking hitler out of art school.

Lol you're the kind of idiot who would report someone for going Vayne top, or going 0-2 in lane for whatever reason. Get real dude.

AloneInTheCrowd2 votes

How about Riot actually doing something versus drop hackers and scripters ? Trolls are the smallest problem .

TahmCat1 votes

agreed riot doesnt give 2 shits about u if you arent challenger or on a pro team. they like to bullshit and say they do to make us think they are player oriented. If they were this community wouldnt be known as the worst and most toxic community in the gaming world. watch this post wont even get a riot response.

hOrnn2 votes

no we need a new system to keep general bads and feeders from ranked.

check your last 10 games, if you havent won 6+ with a positive kda and you didnt play support, then you are part of the problem.

Wehrmacht Bunny1 votes

I would love this actually. It would kick a lot of the toxic players who blame everyone else because they suck.

Paul 0241 votes

Those same toxic players would poison others though, which is why, I think, they only have beneficial buttons.

A Slime Appears1 votes

Or we put them with other poison and then they either realize how awful they are when they see others do it or they just spend every game raging at each other. Either way, non-assholes can enjoy the game. It's only a bad idea if you want to reform people, but I don't think it's the average players responsibility to deal with someone's bullshit while Riot tries various ways to reform them.

FrozenMagician1 votes

I agree with what you're saying, but I notice 60% of the time people don't take the extra time to actually report or honor players. I find myself not always doing so and I need to work on that. Unless people actually take time to do is a system like this won't work sadly.

Velgam1 votes

going to send this to support and see if i get a response on it.

Let's start having felons in society wear a sign around their neck too! Or tattoo their crimes on their forehead! Thou shall not have redemption, once a troll / leaver as stated by this guy... always a troll / leaver.

Velgam1 votes

re-read what i posted, it is nothing like your interpretation, if you as a player get too many negative commendations from your team, at a certain amount you are prohibited from ranked till you do enough community service( like plying norms well enough for people to positivily commend you and you get to play ranked again)

pE4CbxDPQO1 votes

If we could just immediately petition an... authority? post game, they would read chat, listen to pleas etc. and decide if a ranked ban was in order, maybe even Loss Prev?

OblongOtter1 votes

The only problem is that no one gives honor.

Velgam1 votes

Really? i get like 4-5 a game o_o

Zerglinglol2 votes

In what? Normals? I'm pretty damn nice in my ranked games(gold 1) and haven't seen an honor in a while. The only way I get an honor is if I get someone really fed, aka supporting and getting an ADC fed, or jungling and camping one lane really hard. Even that won't get honors 99/100 times.

OblongOtter1 votes

Do note that this is a hyperbole, obviously people give honor, but not enough and consistently enough to make this a perfect system. I guess not everyone lives in America, the land of "this is literally the best thing ever."

TenSlashTen1 votes

yeah... sounds like something for angry people to abuse...

I'd rather just send video proof to riot and let them figure it out.

I hardly even use the honor system because its such a hastle to remember. Honestly its not even that I don't want to. I just don't feel that its rewarding enough. It certainly doesn't make me feel good to get a helpful honor or anything. I say thank you, but thats about it. I don't feel rewarded for doing a good job or giving good advice to someone learning.

Riot needs to hurry up and figure out a real reward system for those of us that go above and beyond to help a fellow player learn the ropes.

It would be nice to maybe earn some RP for helping a new player learn a champion or teaching them a new jungle mechanic. Would Be Nice.

Zerglinglol1 votes

The problem is that people will troll/complain/report people who aren't even trolling. Take for instance, I LOVE playing off the meta. I'll play strange supports like Viktor support, or Twitch jungle. And guess what...if we win nobody says a word, but in my losses when I'm twitch jungle, EVEN IF I HAVE A GOOD GAME, I get mass reported by my team. So under your philosophy I'd end up banned because of people's shitty attitudes, even though I'm doing nothing wrong.

Velgam1 votes

WHAT THE HELL i never said ban, where in my post did i say you will be banned? i said prohibited from ranked till the negative honors decrease, my god, Learn to read please.

Zerglinglol1 votes

So I should get prohibited from ranked because I play off the meta? lolol

There's a reason why measures like this haven't and won't be put in place. People are EXTREMELY abusive of power. Look at the tribunal for example. There were people who hit punish 100% of the time.

Velgam1 votes

Only applies to ranked games.....so yeah if some1 does that in a ranked game of mine and losses, i will report

Zerglinglol1 votes

So you're saying someone should get reported for being innovative and/or playing what they enjoy? lol...

Velgam1 votes

no, for choosing it and failing hard with it, i give people the benefit of the doubt, had a teemo jng and he failed miserably.

Zerglinglol2 votes

So what if someone playing meta fails? You report them also?

PL551 votes

Yes this is so annoying. When a Twitch jungle goes 1/3 then loses and a 0/7 Riven top tells everyone to report the Twitch I want to just rip my hair off.

TahmCat1 votes

well sir ranked isnt the place to try to break the meta. Normals are for that. And i firmly believe you should get reported if your WHOLE team doesnt want a certain champ on their team and you choose him anyways. That action alone is trollish to me because then you upset your team from the start.

PL551 votes

Well if it works out fine? In fact, if the Twtich jungle carries the team single-handedly it's reportable offense? You can't get reported for something like this because the off-meta pick might work out just fine. I have friends who main Karthus support, and they probably get reported when they lose even if they play perfectly fine because someone else, not them, fails and the whole team blames the Karthus support. It isn't right how you can enjoy a specific role with a champion but not be able to play it because some meta already decides where they go.

The Zero Divide1 votes

Do you ask your team to report you when you have a crappy game? If not, you're being a massive hypocrite. You can fail just as hard with a meta pick as someone trying something different.

That's the issue with people like you. Some games YOU ARE the reason that your team lost. Do you want to be reported every time that happens?

I am Madlife1 votes

See, I would really really enjoy this idea, except for the fact that some players don't get honors too often, because no one is bothered to click on the honor button anymore. I see some really nice people in games, add them and honor after, and I asked him "wow! how many honors do you get per game!" due to him being nice, and he said I was his first in 4 months. I was really upset, and yet, nothing I could do. A problem also happened to me, I had 200+ honors for about each, 100 for the first 2, and 200 for the last 2, and it was reset one day, all due to a huge misunderstanding causing me to get reported and I think it was due to the chat ban. I could be wrong, and I am not saying that I didn't deserve it, It's just confusing why I got it all removed.

Tsukuyomi271 votes

This is a slippery slope. This will undoubtedly empower the already toxic players more than it will inspire apathetic players. As far as the meta issue goes, the problem is that people were making the argument ranked isn't the place to break the meta, but just because someone's pick isn't meta doesn't mean it's not well practiced or understood. Furthermore, unless you're really high elo, you'll probably never play with those people again so those toxic players make immediate judgements like you're trolling about someones pick without knowing that they may main that champ in that role. What you could end up with is a system where people could get punished for playing a few bad games. Finally, there's already a system in place for that, it's called demotion. If someone continues to play the champ unsuccessfully, they'll either have to re-evaluate or plummet in the rankings.

TrulyBland1 votes

I honestly don't get why we would need any additional systems... We have matchmaking to take care of people who have bad ideas and execute them just as badly. We have a banning system (that at least for now is not Tribunal, btw) to take care of people who intentionally lose/troll/feed.

Saying that the second system is not working well enough is moot, because we'd need just the same system to do what you are suggesting, if you don't want to completely remove all checks and balances. In that case, on top of only "solving" the problem for a minority of the community (ranked), you only solve it by essentially "legalizing" a whole new form of trolling. This is like trying to fight crime by making it legal to shoot everybody that looks suspicious.
