Why was "feast of famine" removed?

so many games where I've seen players who messed up a ton early on just come back after getting an item or two and destroy teams.

Isn't it "feast OR famine"? Anyway if you're ahead you need to capitalize on that lead by taking objectives and denying your enemy gold and experience, meaning: take Drakes, take Herald, take First Blood Tower, take Scuttle Crabs, destroy Wards, take enemy Jungle camps, zone them from their farm and freeze the lane, take Towers/Inhibs, countergank (even as Support/Mid/Top Laner), push under tower while they're back to deny them creep waves, roam and gank other lanes, etc. etc. etc. Edit: If you don't do this enemies will be able to come back. Especially if you also make mistakes.

Some champions do do (hehe) well even if they were 0/3 in the laning phase (people like Karthus, Illaoi, Singed, etc. etc.). You'll just have to secure a high enough lead and avoid mistakes in order to anticipate and deny their power curve/ power spikes. These are usually champions who are extremely powerful in certain situations rather than circumstances. Like if Illaoi gets a good ult, if Karthus dies in a good spot during a fight and can clean up with his ult, if Singed can consume enough of your resources and time and simultaneously farm.
