Spellthief's Edge discourages AoE poke on multiple champs simultaneously

The title says the point, really. But I'll expand.

I use Lux support. I buy spellthief's Edge for the extra AP. I've noticed that if I hit my E only both the support and the marksmen, I'll only proc my spellthief's passive once. If I use Nami and use my ebb and flow to hit both of them, I'll proc the passive twice. This leads me to believe that the item is set to give me gold when I do damage, and not for each time I've hit a champ. I want to be rewarded for hitting both of them. I also don't want to be encouraged to just poke ONE opponent with my AoE spell just to get the gold as I race my opponents who take the faster gold items.

I'm not sure if this is selfish or not and I don't know if it would be broken if changed. I just feel like it's such a waste for me to not be rewarded for a good play on an item that encourages poke.

So this was intentional? I thought it was a bug. My lulu q would only proc once when I hit q on both target. This change is stupid. Why would they do this?

I certainly agree. Now that there is a 1.25s delay between proccing it as well, champions with AoE DoT abilities like Morgana and MissFortune have suffered in gold production. I think they need to remove the delay, considering Coin gives 25 gold per minion early, and Relic gives 20+ on minion kills early.

Thought I noticed this with karma but I figured I was mistaken. Honestly, Spellthief's needs a buff all around.

As an update, I'm finding it easier to just take the coin and zone my enemy when I go for the coin. I'm not sure if it's just because I'm not using it or if it's technically better overall for me as lux to take the coin over the spellthiefs edge.

Spellthief's is way better on DoT champs: Played a game with Teemo as support. (they had Taric and Tristana, 7 of the bans were my standard supports)

One auto-attack with E would proc all three passive stacks. That's 15 extra damage per tick, on top of the AP scaling into it.

That's an important thing to note there. It's application is flawed in abusable ways as well as un-applicable ways. It's why Zyra is also a heavy-handed support in terms of burst lately.

item 3302 is also bad in that ADC are taking it. They literally are building it so they can get easier last hits in combination with extra lane gold and sustain for their allies. (Durability is a nice tool too.) The extra gold generally will go directly into Ardent, but also helps with control wards and other support items.

Mana sustain is the best part of the coin that's a hair overdone. It allows a healer to be more passive and a kill-lane to be more aggressive without that cost sustained as heavily.
