So what are some support picks people feel are underused but good or picks that are weak?

the silver 3 players with 45% winrates on this board have the delusion that Sona is weak ######she isn't, she's actually really strong atm

i dont see why people think she is weak she has strong asss pokes lol.

She's tied for the lowest base damage on a spell amongst the entire support class. She's one of VERY FEW supports that only have a singular damage spell. She's tied for the lowest AD on a support, with exception to Lulu and Thresh who both have on-hit modifiers. Her entire damage potential is the 2nd-lowest of all support champs, only Braum does less than her full spell rotation.

These are a few reasons why people know she's weak.

I got hit with a Q + Lichbane (auto with the passive) which she could do from a fairly decent range thanks to rapid firecanon. We were both level 18 and it did 1800 damage to me while she only had 350 AP. I guess her damage is pretty weak I mean only 1800 damage in 2 hits? That's kinda pathetic.

How the hell did your team allow the enemy support that much gold. To have both a lichbane, and a rapid fire cannon?

Her Q-powercord combo isn't going to have more than 100% scaling. factor in two procs from lich bane, and that's only 200% which is 700 damage from scaling AP. which is less than half the damage you claimed. Now the Rapid fire cannon, that has 200 bonus damage at level 18. Lichbane does have a small ratio with base AD, and since she had the cannon, you could have gotten unlucky and she crit both times.

I'm still not convinced this would all add up. considering this is all factored before resistances. But to compare her AP to her damage output, paints a misguided image of where her damage comes from. (and her AP ratio's are weak.)

The complaint is either against her base damage, or against the items she builds. But if it's the latter case, I would hold no sympathy for. If you allow the the enemy support to build those kind of high price items, that's on your team. Not on her kit.

Woah calm your pants there. i'd have to find the actual replay to figure out exactly what she built, but yes I was playing a kayle against an all AD team so I built armor and not magic resist and late game she nearly killed me from 2 hits every time I would go near her rapid fire canon range

Power Chord = (192 damage (passive) + 60 bonus damage (from Q) + 40% ap ratio (20% is from the empowered Q 20% from passive) + 75% ap + 100 ad + 200 rapid firecanon) times an extra 40% damage = (192 + 60 + (350 * .40) + (350 * .75) + 100 + 200) x 1.40 = 954.50 x 1.4 = 1336.30 damage

Q Hymn of Valor = 200 + 350*.50 = 375

Q + Passive = 1711.30 damage and that's only with 350 AP.

Not fully sure about the powerchord interaction but from other posts it does seem like the 40% boost applies TO EVERYTHING including the rapid firecanon boost.

huh

if that were the case, it would likely be a bug. The lol Wiki says that it only affects powercord and says with the Q only does 18.2-268.8 + 28% AP

Though actually the bonus damage from the Aura would be 100 at 18 because the Aura's also scale with ranks in Crescendo.

Working with those numbers, damage should be 100 + 269 + 48% AP from the passive and aura. 200 + 50%AP from the Q. And 100%AD + 75%AD + 50%AP +200 from the AutoAttack and items.

= 769 + 148%AP +175%AD = 769 + 525 + 175 roughly 1469 damage.

If what your saying is true. (And I would probably have to see it) Then Riot probably should look into it.

As someone who started the game play sona. I pretty much lover her, even after the rework, which I actually felt made her better. But I do find her Q-Powercord, drowning out her other options. Using her Q is like the only effective way to make use of the passive. It's also the most solo Power she has, while everything else relys more heavily on her team. One of the options I though about was replacing the current Q-Powercord, with a defense shred. Something that could help her team, when taking down a Hard Target.

It does only affect Power Chord, like countless people before him he's completely exaggerating. Don't forget, even IF his numbers were accurate, he's ignoring armor and MR would cut off a large chunk of the number he just gave.

While we're at it, let's also not forget that Lich and RFC are both artificial damage. Sona's actual damage output is pathetic, but he's intentionally inflating them by purposefully including parts that don't belong to her. Sona is a support champ, Lich Bane and RFC are not support items. Logically, a support shouldn't be building them and more importantly they shouldn't be OBLIGATED to build them the way Sona is. That obligation only appeared after patch 4.13, before that she was able to perform adequately and put out significant damage without artificial numbers.

In conclusion, patch 4.13 made Sona incapable of performing as a support and factually reduced her damage output by a SIGNIFICANT amount.

This is the part where silver support mains come in and explain that their main sucks and every other support is broken

Good support options that are underused: Amumu Gangplank Taric Maokai Orianna Sejuani.

Now these are not the best supports, but are very viable, and if you play them well, are often better for you and your team than the standard supports like Alistar Bard Braum etc.

I played zyra clean into gold two seasons ago, back when she could 90% an adc at lvl 3. She has been nerfed, but still strong. Squish though. Trundle support was dirty before the season ended, not sure how he does now.

Underused:

Taric - This guy was always underused, but he is going to be reworked anyway. Let's see what will happen after he gets a rework.

Alistar - After the preseason started, people stopped using him. It may have to do with the fact that poke supports got popular. They tend to counter Alistar because he can't outsustain them and they don't have an engage for him to negate to begin with. It may also have to do with the fact that TahmKench can peel better than Alistar. He is still tanky as hell and a solid option if your team needs a tank support because of his insane peeling. And unlike Tahm Kench, Alistar can also engage and initiate teamfights with his pseudo-Malphite ult.

Fiddlesticks - After numerous nerfs to him as a jungler and a mid laner, I feel that support is the only place that is left for him. Unfortunately, he is outclassed by Lulu as a poke support with targeted CC. Also, Fiddlestick's range is too short for him to reliably proc Thunderlord's Decree.

Leona - I don't know why people don't play her, to be honest. It may have to do with the fact that she has no sustain at all and will be poked to death by poke supports which are strong now. Or peharps because Tahm Kench is such a hard counter to her (he can completely negate her engage, is more durable, and can do more damage if necessary) She is a good counter to Soraka if you play aggressively.

the rpoblem with taric is he is slow has no engage high mana cost useless ult his heal really doesnt heal meanin all his moves are filled with penalties and high cd. i like the j4 supp its like leo minus i like his enagge and ult better and i liek sej supp it works once you go in she and j4 all lin are better then leos

Zilean Is very underused, but not all that weak. He simply requires too much mechanical skill for people to bother playing him. Landing one Q is hard enough, but landing 2 (outside of a haphazard teamfight) is almost impossible vs. competent opponents. One good thing about him is that he hard-counters assassins, which makes him a good pick against Rengar, Zed, Talon, and hard-engage comps.

The other downside to him though is that your ADC needs to be somewhat better than average at kiting and positioning, which makes him a risky solo queue pick. In order to maximize the potential of his E, your ADC can't be one of those morons who stands completely still and just right-clicks things. It's also somewhat annoying to go through the whole laning phase without some kind of reliable hard cc when you're up against Thresh, Braum, Naut, etc.

HaugheyPuck991 votes

Here's a little trick to help you out when you're laning against tanks with CC as Zilean. Don't always try and use your bombs for the stun, use them for zoning. For example, say I'm laning against a Thresh and I see him trying to move off to the side of the minion wave to position himself to throw a hook at my adc, I just throw the bomb off to the side of the minion wave where he needs to be to line up that throw. Most of the time, they'll be smart enough not to walk into it. And another thing, you don't have to get both of the bombs to land on an enemy champion to proc the stun. If they're close enough to their own minion wave, throw it on their minions in the back of the wave, its much easier to land the double bomb on them trust me.

Statistically, Nami is as strong as Sona and Janna right now. Your analysis is faulty.

statistics don't account for the fact that 90% of nami players suck dick

Well, 90% of the community isn't up to Riot's standards for collecting data for competitive play, so you could say 90% of the community sucks dick, which would probably make your claim true.

NautilusAlistarZyra are probably in the worst shape

LeonaNami are by no means weak. Anybody who says otherwise are lying to stop people from playing their secret OP.

Janna is a support I haven't played a lot since the start of preseason, but the few games I did play her were underwhelming. Not sure if that's a balance issue or just an anomaly over the course of a few games, gonna try her out some more soon.

Yea janna is amazing. Currently highest winrate out of all supports.

She's all about CC. And engaging/disengaging

Poppy for Supp!!!!!

If practice she can be a lethal support in terms of setup, CC/peel, tankiness(especially if riot finnally fixes some bugs

She needs a few buffs such as http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/tj99ntLT-poppy-needs-some-tlc

but overall she's the most fun support I've mained other than leona/tahm(current other mains) or the rest of the cast (I dropped the rest due to being boring or not my type of support since exp gain if underleveled was nerfed due to mastery which hurt roaming.)
