Darius is among one of the most annoying and powerful but slow and easily kited toplaners... literally everyone can counter you. When playing Darius it is best if you play against someone equally as immobile and has not as much cc.
Tips:
Don't randomly go in for things... srsly you might be the dunkmaster but only when you do it right.
Save your ultimate. I cannot stress this enough. Save that shit up. Use it only to secure the kill. Do the math; how much damage does it do? how much hp does your enemy have? How much Armor? it will save you one day if u save it up for just the right time.
You are not a frontliner... I know thats weird but you really arent. You have no solid engage and your damage falls off if you are not fed
Land your E. This cannot be stressed anymore than i can right now. If you don't land your hook, just leave it. you are too slow and have no gap closers.
Your combo should look like e,w,q with all of it landing nicely
Your Q does more damage at the end of the circle than at the middle, if u do it right, there will be a slicing sound, but if u do it wrong, there is an ugly chunky sound to it.
You should not be aggressive early unless you have a clear advantage. Say it is a mundo you are against. Play safe, Quinn? Play safe. Now if it is a Fiora, LaneSwap boy
-You counter everyone who has a passive heal. Your bleed does a million damage over time so let it happen.
-First item is always a titanic Hydra then a Black Cleaver. Those are like core, they give health and ad so thats all the ad you need.
-Your W refunds Mana if you kill the target you hit... INCLUDING BUILDINGS!!!
Finally just remember that while people make Darius out to be a god, he is still a well balance champion. Meaning he has plenty of outplays and you are gonna be fucked if you misstep*[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]*
Best person ever. Fucking great post thanks a lot. Best post by far :D
I'd like to add a couple points:
You don't generally need more damage than Black Cleaver on Darius. And sometimes not even that. The Jaurim's Fist items are fun to build, but Darius is the truest melee champion in the game, he thrives in the thick of the fight and you're going to need more than flat health to stay alive in a fight. Max E second and build tanky and you'll have all the damage you need.
Always be moving during your Q. Never try to auto attack someone when your Q is winding up, it's pointless, just keep clicking on the ground to reposition yourself. Landing your Q is the most important part of Darius, you lose a bleed stack, heal, and most of your damage if you hit them with the hilt, it's literally worse than just autoattacking.
Don't overcommit to trades you can't follow up on. A general rule of thumb is, if you can't auto them right now, don't chase them, there are exceptions, but odds are pretty good you won't catch up and you'll just take a bunch of minion damage or worse for your trouble. On the other hand, if a melee champion blows their mobility and gets in your face voluntarily in lane (and you don't see a gank coming), by all means unload on them. You outduel nearly every tanky melee champion and many squishy ones at all points of the game, the important thing is to keep hitting them and LAND YOUR Q so you can proc your passive and destroy them.
There are a few exceptions to the rule above who can really destroy you if they go in on you. Riven, Fiora, and, in the very early and very late game, Yasuo, will all wreck you with impunity as they have the mobility to ignore your Q, the CC to prevent you from repositioning, and the DPS to kill you before you can stack 5 bleeds. You mostly have to play passively and pray you can wreck them in teamfights.
You don't need to look at armor for darius's ult...
You bought him with his reputation of "just walk forward and destroy everything" in mind without the proper juggernaut mentality. Darius is not an assassin, nor is he a Garen who can chase/gap close efficiently. He is an easily kited, slow-moving monster that needs proper positioning to control, along with the knowledge that you need time to get the steam-train rolling. Tips:
Some champs you just cant play. I can not play kayle or Yi. No matter what I just cant play them well. Just move on. And find what you do play well.
Yi is pretty easy for me, but every time I play
I just get myself screwed.
Utilize his broken blood rage passive. He literally out damages ANYONE when it procs. +40, +120, +200 dmg. In lane noone can mess with that. You have try to add stacks of your passive slowly without fully engaging. But not so slow that the stacks fall off. When your passive hits 4 stacks then go in and youre blood rage will go off. Literally noone can fight back with that much extra dmg. Even just his autos hurt like absolute hell when hes in blood rage
It's best to pick Darius into melee matchups if you can, he's extremely potent in them.
In lane, auto your enemy laner every time they last hit, do not let them get even a single minion without you hitting them for it. If they don't immediately back off when you hit them, then you can pretty much all in and get Noxian Might for a free kill, or at least force them to back. Grab Black Cleaver first in virtually all circumstances.
Extra things, make sure to use your W to reset auto attacks, basically, auto, then immediately W, then auto again for a quick 3 bleed stack.
Noxian Might is key to your entire gameplay, getting it can decide games. For example, if you can get it when you're being ganked, Noxian Might can pretty much get you the 1v2. The key things are landing the Q blade, and acquiring Noxian Might.
