Sincere thanks to all reds of the Board and the future of League of Legends
First of all, I would like to thank all reds who recently are taking part with the life of the Board and I would like that they continue in this way because this is the right path!
After the thanks, I would like to talk about the future of LoL. Recently Riot have reworded the juggernaut champions, fighters with hig damage and low mobility. I'm especially talking about Darius and Garen, who used to have a super strong laning phase and an embarrassing late game, but now, while having the same weaknesses, they can have some chance to be useful for their team in late mid-late game. Reflecting about the word "lack of mobility", I thought about Viktor. Viktor is my main. In addition to loving his laugh and his laser, I have chosen him because I felt very safe with him during the game. He has low mobility, but has harass, good cc, burst and, even when I was really countered, I could push the lane with his hex core E upgrade. The next patch, Viktor will be nerfed and this doesn't amaze me. I'll keep playing him because he's very fun to play tho. I don't know how these changes will impact his laning phase, but I'm sure about one thing: Viktor is one of the few champions with low mobility played in the competitive scene, with Orianna and Xerath (correct me if I forgot someone please). Let's list pros and cons of these champions:
[Disclaimer: I'm not a pro player neither an analyst. I don't even speak English very well lol Just my opinions here.
PROS
Wave clear (with his E upgrade = he can deny himself = safer in lane)
Bursty
Harass
Decent CC (but somehow hard to land)
Shield
Nice trades with his Q
CONS Zero mobility (even if he can upgrade his Q) Hard-ish to play Mid range AP caster (= he need to expose himself to do something more than harass)
PRO
Harass (= he can deny himself = safer in lane)
Wave clear
Good CCs
Long range (= he can deny himself = safer in lane)
Buil-in mana sustain
CONS Zero mobility
PROS
Decent wave clear with some AP
Harass
Good CCs
Shield
CONS Zero mobility Hard to play Mid range AP caster
As usual, If I forgot something, please write me. Now let's consider another champion, one of the safer atm, that is Azir.
PROS
Wave clear and good damage against towers
Harass
2 (dis)engage
Nice CCs
Shield
CONS Hard to play
Azir is only and example. I could do more, but it's not my point. The mediocrity of Azir is directly proportional to the inability of the player. An Azir main never risk something picking him.
Then, there are other champion. They have really zero mobility. We generally speak about off-meta picks, who thrill me. I never liked the meta. Let's consider 3 random champions :
, who got played recently in LCS and lost the game.
PROS
Wave clear (after RoA and Tear)
Surprising single target burst
Good CC
GA as passive
CONS Zero mobility and the lowest MS of the game Mid game AP caster (but decent DPS) Mana hugry (efore RoA and tear. You can't essentially push the lane with your ultimate to deny yourself without squandering your mana pool)
PROS
Harass
% magic damage
Decent wave clear
Good CC
OP Ultimade if you can make it bounce 4 times [ 450 / 750 / 1050 (+ 150% AP) ]
CONS Combo oriented Zero mobility Ultimade extremely useless if you can't make it bounce. This makes Brand really unrealiable IMO [150 / 250 / 350 (+ 50% AP) ] . I think that his projectile should inflict decent damage and the next bounces will hit for a reduced %.
PROS
Wave clear
Decent Harass
% magic damage
Good CCs (3s silence + suppression)
Surprising bursty
CONS Zero mobility Disgusting mana costs (430 for a full combo!! And people complain about Lux E... pls buff Lux E :] ) E make last hitting a pain in the ass if you have low AP R stun yourself and is easy to stop
What I want to say is: I don't want buffs for Malzahar, Anivia, Brand & CO, but, IMO, Riot should organize more rework like the Garen's and Darius' one, so pro player (and average players) can have a solid reason to pick mages with low mobility, while leaving their weaknesses.
I hope you guys didn't get bored. This was a wall of text, but I wanted to take advantage of the situation that reds are super active lately. I really want the other mages getting played more in competitive scene without changing their identity too much. Brand is super cool and I love his voice :)
