Title, I just want to know if he's still a thing in your book.
Because in this meta, he's absolutely terrible. Even Olaf is better than him.

Olaf's worst than Aatrox.
Patch 5.3 Aatrox's ult now forces all nearby champions to look at him for 0.1 seconds.

aatrox is most definitely a usable champion. he's been played successfully in the lcs, meaning maybe you just aren't that good at him. Have a nice day!
is champ that i like to call a "switch" champion. If the player has found the right runes & masteries for him while being able to use him, whether he in lane or jung, Aatrox can do really well but on the other hand if a player can't find the balance of damage to bulk ratio, he will do horrible. My brother plays Aatrox in the top lane and he does really well. I've see him rarely lose his lane and he's confident using him. Aatrox is a good champion but it takes time to know how to use him.

can actually be playable in the future. I love him but I can't play him merely because he's outshinned by the other jungs

I just logged in to say that Aatrox is a straight beast in the jungle now. He was beast in season 4. then with the new jungle he fell off a little but now with this last patch he is back. You just have to know how to build him right. Quints= 1 movespeed 2 attack speed marks= attack speed seals= 6 armor 3 scaling armor glyphs= 3 magic resist 6 attack speed 21-9 standard fighter jungle masteries then you build devourer, boots, botrk randuins/or banshees/or guardian angel, then a last whisper or hexdrinker and you are a total beast.The longer the game goes the stronger you get cause of the stacks just grow and grow.
clear 1 side of the jungle and gank lvl3 then clear the other side and gank again or back for upgrade. LOL I don't even know why I'm sharing this cuase when more people pick this up riot will break out the nerf bat and make me cry.
and for the people who say he is a glass cannon, lots of people don't want to use their abilities on you in a team fight because of your passive. So they think they can ignore you and go after kills then "Triple kill!"
At least they nerfed morellos a little. That item makes him worse than ever. I love him though.
I'd say he's pretty much olaf with a gapcloser, and longer autoattacks rather than cc immunity
Glass cannon junglers just don't cut it anymore because they're always at too low health to get in effective ganks. If an Aatrox tries to hard engage he just ends up taking more damage than the enemy because his ganks, honestly, are pretty weak. Yeah he's got the dive and the slow, but both are easy to avoid and require that someone be WAY too overextended to get in a solid gank.
I don't even bother taking him top lane. There are so many others who can do better than he does while also bringing more to a fight than flailing a sword around trying to heal their way through it.
Problem with Aatrox is the same problem other sustain champs like Vlad have, if they were viable they would be nightmare to play against.
I already hate playing against Aatrox because of his sustain, but that's just me being bad
Speaking as a player of both Aatrox and Olaf, I would say Aatrox is in a bit of a better spot. But yeah, I think they both could stand to get a little bit of love; all I can really do is play farming simulator and then splitpush.

First, I agree with you. His all-out balls deep playstyle where he gets in your face and just doesn't die is very fun to play, but in this meta he sucks with the poke and kite comps. Second, Olaf is fine. He wins his lane hard against almost all matchups and can splitpush for days. His teamfight is good if you can sneak to a carry, and he holds great initiate if you have a CC jungle/Support.
