Oh. OH. NICE. In times when Akali is low tier, it takes some serious skill and determination to continue to play her. Great work!

The only reason why ppl are not playing Akali, is because no pro player is playing her frequently to advertise her.

Basically ppl are sheep.

Nuguu8 votes

I agree, there are so many Akali players that are building her so wrong and with such an awful setup (runes and masteries), dragging her winrate down.

SourCustard11 votes

Makes sense, on sites like champion.gg the amount of games on Akali improves alot over time.

And Thunderlord's decree works really well on Akali since shes a burst champ, seeing that Riot buffed it and now everyone is bandwagoning to it like on every damage champion, I cringe so hard on Akali players that took Deathfire touch on her.

Nuguu8 votes

The strikethrough also made Akali more wonky, which I think decreased her winrate because it really screws over a champion like Akali that is so autoattack reliant. Again, it takes a lot of games on Akali to get used to the strikethrough, something newer players have a hard time with since its counter-intuitive in some cases.

Hexten4 votes

This is a post I made sometime ago in another Akali thread about the strikethrough. It would explain why the strikethrough hurt Akali more than it helped her, leading to why her winrate hasn't improved over time to this point (it should of by now).

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/PtBl32AX-to-say-she-is-a-ninja-akali-is-stupidly-clumsy Pros for strikethrough

  1. When the target is running away in a straight line away from Akali's dash, gains more distance.
  2. When dashing away to nearby minions, gives more distance between Akali and the enemy.

Cons for strikethrough

No control over the positioning, it sets you x distance away from target from the last saved location when the dash starts, so Akali ends up being flung into bad positions.

  • This is happens alot when a target is running towards you, not away. The strikethrough will overshoot Akali through the target, and she is left further away, making it easier for the target to step out of autoattack range.

  • Dashing to proc Q near or under the enemy turret is impossible to do now because it flings Akali into turret range. This hurts her alot more in mid lane because the lane is so short. This effectively means Akali cannot harass that well against enemy mid laners.

  • The old dash will simply put you on top of the target helping with gameplay clarity - the intent of the dash and where Akali will land is easier to judge.

Adds alot of unneeded delay to her damage through several ways:

Edited: Ty Anidan for explanation about turn speed.

Wow what a detailed post.

This happens alot when the target has alot of blinks and/or mobility tools. Its like a stretch circus.

MeleeNuke1 votes

I saw your post! I agree with everything.

Akali is SO HOT4 votes

The patch where they added the passthrough made it so 99% of the time she couldn't proc her Q with an auto attack after she ulted to you. After they decreased the passthrough distance a little bit it only happens from time to time (the real problem is that her auto attack animation is really bad which makes procing Q really hard) and the passthrough is really good for outplaying people. A couple random expamples off the top of my head would be getting behind Azir so when he ults he misses you, putting yourself in a better position when a Gnar ult is going to land on you, making Lee kick you the wrong way because you landed on the other side of him, etc.

It's pretty wonky at first but once you get used to it it is a very useful tool to have.

Hexten4 votes

There are uses for the strikethrough - its not bad, but the fact that the dash speed is slower means any distance gained isn't as much since it takes longer to finish dash, meaning the target would of gained more distance away from Akali.

The strikethrough just needs to be enough to push Akali behind the target, so I don't know why it needs to scale so ridiculously the closer Akali is to the target (200 range) which is the reason why overshoots happen so often, and creates the 'stretch circus' Nuguu was talking about.

If Akali is already close to the target, she doesn't need to gain more distance, she just needs enough so that she is placed just behind the target. When dashing at max range, the 100 range strikethrough is fine, I don't have any problems with. It's just that the more closer the target is to Akali - the strikethrough range increases alot which she doesn't need. It just needs to be enough so she is behind them.

The next time Riot looks into Akali should be to just fix up her strikethrough so that it feels better to use (fix the dash speed bug, make the strikethrough range 100 at both ends and just doesn't scale, have it apply the damage before not after), and then see how well she goes from there.

Akali is SO HOT3 votes

Yeah the stealth nerf to her ult speed was pretty lame

Occams Raiser3 votes

People are not sheep. You see someone that puts thousands of hours in pro play doing the equation for you. It is silly to try and reinvent the wheel after the pros shape a meta. Hold the disdain for your fellow man. They have merely been convinced by a compelling argument.

I still have Akali as my most played champion D:

I was really worried this would be a thread saying that we should buff akali. I had a sigh of relief when I read that it wasn't. I will always believe that the times when akali and katarina where top tier where the darkest times ever

Squarefighter1 votes

Akali is just so unhealthy for the game. Much like old Poppy, she needs to be weak because how little can be done against her in certain ciccumstances

iamleburk1 votes

yup, she needs a rework. A lot of assassins do, tbh

Ralanr1 votes

Sounds like assassins need a class rework.

Squarefighter1 votes

One that they're getting 2016! Hype boys!

EDIT: a number

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

Or mid 2016. Riot I believe said they were doing an assassin pass after immobile mages which I BELIEVE is slated for some time during spring split. That and Assassins are getting a new item to work with soon.tm iirc.

Solidair36 votes

I want to like akali, but I don't want to deal with her stat check bullshit.

I hate all of the stat check assassins, honestly. Assassins so badly need a rework. Whenever they are viable they need to swiftly be nerfed. It's dumb.

Anidan1 votes

Assassins don't need a rework, they just suck to play against because anything that kills you quickly by design will suck to play against (I mean, just look at how much tanks complain about Vayne even though she is literally designed to kill them despite their defense). They always have, and they always will. That's not grounds for a class-wide rework, unfortunately.

If we reworked everything in games to no longer suck to play against, Snipers would no longer be one-shot kills in FPS games, stuns would be removed outright, blue shells would be removed, eternal combo-chains would be removed, etc.

iamleburk2 votes

Assassins need reworks to give them a healthier gameplay pattern and better diversity. And not just anything kills you quickly will be frustrating, just look at Ekko for a good example, or Nidalee. There is nothing wrong with making something less frustrating, especially when you can make it more interesting. Why would they not improve on the assassins kits when they so obviously need changes? And you know some of them do need changes, like Shaco and Akali.

If a champ cant be viable competitively without being a pubstomper, then the champ design is not good and should be reworked. Simple as that.

Anidan1 votes

Do you have any proposals? An Assassin's job is going to always consist of 'go in, wreck house, maybe get out.' The only ones that can't explode people in .5 seconds are complained about for other reasons. People don't like assassins because they're frustrating to play against, and no amount of changes in the world is going to fix that because dying quickly always sucks, and their job is to make exactly that happen to you.

Not everything annoying is unhealthy. I really wish people would remember that. They're annoying and frustrating, not unhealthy - there is a difference.

iamleburk2 votes

No they are legitimately unhealthy. I've already used the examples of Nidalee and Ekko, giving an assassin counterplay isn't impossible. I would also argue Zed is a good example of a healthy assassin. And its not always going to be so they are healthy, i think some assassins (Like Talon) could be maybe given a couple of tweaks to make them more interesting.

And ADC's job is always "stand there and auto". They did a fine job making those diverse, i dont see why assassins would be any different.

And again, why would you not make them less frustrating? Akali needs work, Riot is currently forced to keep her shit tier lest she becomes a pubstomper again. Same with Shaco. If you are honestly going to tell me Shaco doesn't need work...

As for proposals, my main objective would be to add outplay potential from both sides. Thats why i think Zed is a good assassin, and the argument can be made for Leblanc too although i think they could make small changes to those champs.

It's a relief knowing Riot will hit her the moment she starts seeing play again.

Let's not go calling Akali's shroud an escape mechanic lol. Compared to other assassins, it's pretty shitty.

I've seen her inadvisability speed circle be used as one very effectively.

kaltenashes2 votes

she's an all in assasin, the most she can do is ult the adc kill him and hide in her w to wait for her allies to help her

if she wants to escape she has to burn flash or have situational ults to save her (like a minion far away or an enemy near a bush, gotta get creative)

Akali is SO HOT7 votes

-Has one of the weakest pre 6s in the game -She takes 2 rotations to kill her target unless she is really fed which gives you a ton of time to react to her compared to other assassins -No reliable escape -Unreliable defensive mechanism which makes her easy to counter in teamfights.

She is one of the best assassins in terms of beating up people by taking advantage of their mistakes which makes her seem unfair to a lot of people which is why she is basically universally hated.

New sweeper makes life hard for her.

how? she doesn't get revealed so she can't get hit by autos or targeted abilties. Two of the old trinkets (oracles lens and vision totem) revealed her making her fully vunerable in her shroud.

and thank god...no more late game pinks

Krinu1 votes

I thought the updated sweeper worked on her. Did that change?

RisenDarkKnight1 votes

Yeah. The upgraded sweeper doesn't give "true sight" anymore meaning it doesn't let you click on stealthed units in the aoe. It does show a shadow of the stealthed champ so they can see where you are in the shroud, but that's better than the old oracles lens which just straight up revealed you.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

oh no they know I am in this circle now because of Oracles.....the new red trinket doesn't do much in narrowing down where she is tbh as opposed to someone along the lines of Twitch/Shaco/etc. since she is already confined to a small area.
