The Problem With Mastery Level 6 and 7 Plus Hextech Annie

Why cant getting to level 6 and 7 be free? Ive seen a reddit post from someone at riot , here is the link https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/4kao4l/riot_spiffy_we_are_lowering_champion_mastery_6/ , saying they will decrease it to like 70 and 85, but that doesn't solve the fact that its difficult to get champion shards to convert them into blue essence because you are most likely to get a skin. in my opinion the fact that you have to PAY in order to get to a certain level is the same thing as pay to win. even if you get a chest by getting it by playing, you still have to be lucky enough to get a champion shard. since you can only get 1 chest per champion per season, you are forced to play other champs that you may or may not be good at and even then you still have a good chance of never getting a shard. so all that's left to MAYBE get a champ shard is to buy the keys and chests using money. which is very much like pay to win. i simply don't like the fact that riot is trying to get blue essence relevant when simply this is the wrong way of doing so. You can remove blue essence and nobody would care. The other 2 methods though, is just as ridiculous as the first method. The other method requires you to get the EXACT same champ from the chests that will give you the shard that you want for a very very small chance of it ever appearing. Which is a method that shouldn't even exist in the first place because of its requirement. The third method is as ridiculous because, instead of chests, you have to get 3 champion shards, which sounds like hell already, combine them, and SOMEHOW get the permanent champion shard from the more than 100 champions, making it less than 1% chance of you getting the permanent shard that you need. Those methods are simply just unnecessarily difficult tasks that only people that have large amounts of money can accomplish without the hard work of getting chests by playing. You honestly have a better chance of getting a champion shard by buying the chests and praying to whatever god you believe in to get really lucky.

This is the same for the Hextech Annie Skin as well. You have to get 10 gemstones or the skin itself in order to unlock it, instead of just having people use RP and getting the skin just like that. Since getting the skin itself would be extremely difficult do to the random chance, you'll have to try and get the gemstones. That is very much like pay to win because you have to buy so many chests to even just get 1 gemstone. Yes, paying in order to get the normal skins is very much the same but it is definitely way less expensive to get a regular skin.

My experiences with it was something that really sold the idea of removing the costs. When I got 2 S+ for Thresh , I immediately spent the shards i did have for level 6. I'm not a Thresh main though, I'm a Teemo main. So when I finally got the second S i needed for Teemo , I couldn't get it because I only had 26 blue essence left. Plus I had no champion shards/permanents to give in so I couldn't get to Level 6. The next game, I get another S, and my thought was that I may not be able to reach Level 6 now, the S I got could still count towards the 3 S/S+ I need for Level 7. I was wrong. Not only does it not count, you are forced to go to Level 6 before any S or S+'s count. So all the hard work that I put in to that extra S, has all gone to waste. This happened at the day when this discussion was released. I am really pissed with this. So all the S's i get with Teemo doesn't matter. That is not fair. This something that has most likely happened to someone else and it will continue to happen to other people as well. Someone needs to tell Riot, that this is not OK. That this is really close to pay to win. It might as well be pay to win. Honestly, this isn't just my opinion. This is most likely lots of people's opinion. I really do hope that Riot will fix this.

If you read the notes on when they released levels 6 and 7 masteries, they said that soon they will give the option to buy the champ shards to convert to essence or to use as mastery components, they said soon so i assumed 6.11 but that just came out and there is no direct mention of it, but they will be reworking the ip/rp shop mid 6.11 so they may start it then.

Well apparently it's just for PH (which refers to phillipines and not that site), at least at first, so the rest of us might be left relying on them releasing the ip for champion shard thing, and getting shards/essence that way for awhile.

They do want an element of dedication to getting rank 6/7 in addition to the skill, and earning essence seems to be the way they want to represent that. It's just unfortunate that the easiest way to 'earn' that essence involves paying real money rather than putting in time.

I would just like to say that, if they do decide to allow the purchase of shards for IP and NOT RP, I will be fine with that. The problem after that though is that blue essence would be rendered useless once again. I just think that Riot need to think up of a better way to use the essence than what its being used for now.

I understand that the hextech system is to reward people for playing well, but it feels like it doesn't really do that. Yeah, my S on X champ gets me a chest if I have one available. Great, now that I've gotten S's on all my supports, now I have to play a new role or use an off meta in that role. I can understand locking out that champ for maybe 3 months or so, but to have not only a limit on chests available at a time but champ to earn on seems off. Even if it was something like you had to earn 5 S or S+'s to make that champ that you've already locked available again, at least that would offer us a reason to keep playing when we had no chests available.

The worst part for me is most of the stuff I've gotten from chests is for characters I don't own or play. I've gotten skin shards for Quinn, Leona, Skarner, Viegar, Zilean, Sion, Rengar, Kayle, and Volibear. I own Viegar and Zilean. Again, I understand it's a free skin that in no way helps you play the game any better, but right now their system isn't making me want to spend money on them. I have 2 chests sitting in my inventory and 2 key shards. I wouldn't waste the money to buy keys to open those since, with my luck, I'll get something like a Hecarim or Kha'zix skin.

Maybe offer something like IP for essence. So many Season 1 players talk about having tons of extra IP. Even if it was 10000 IP for 100 essence, it's still something that would allow dedicated player a way to get level 6/7 without solely relying on luck.
