How is this even considered a gamemode?

How the fuck is this even a gamemode? This is by far the most lazy attempt at a rotating gamemode. THIS DOESN'T DO SHIT. Its just normal summoner's rift but with randomized champions. WHICH IS JUST ARAM, WITHOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT MAKES ARAM ACTUALLY FUN TO PLAY.

**I could make this game on live right now. **You know how? go into the custom games and make a SR game with random champs.

Here's a list of things you can do to make this an actual gamemode. >> Make must build items sets with random items. (AKA Ultimate Bravery, if you don't know what that is, look it up, it's fun) >> Randomize skillshots and targeted abilites to make them shoot off in any direction or target a random target in range. >> Your abilities are leveled for you in random order. >> Gamemode around items that have small chances of doing things when using abilities or auto attacking. (Slowing, Swapping places with target, losing health but dealing bonus damage, ect.)

I'm not gonna sugarcoat anything. This is halfassed at best and honestly a slap in the face to anybody who enjoys the rotating gamemode weekends.

just give me black market brawlers REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Yeah they literally already have a unique game mode ready but they instead choose to put a really boring and unimaginative one in rotation.

abbbez5 votes

honestly the only fun part with black market brawlers was the new items, otherwise it just felt like a normal summoners rift game since the additional lane minions didn't feel impactful.

I actually disagree.

It's ARAM, without all the bullshit that makes ARAM unfun to play.

I absolutely and completely hate the "All Mid" part of ARAM, and I would enjoy a normal game of Summoner's Rift with random champs.

It Hertz When IP4 votes

AFAIK the "All Mid" bit is what makes ARAM tolerable. Got rolled a champion you absolutely suck at? At least you can focus on utility and support your allies, who are RIGHT FREAKING THERE the entire game. You won't be in a lane/jungle by yourself. For example, I got handed Draven in ARAM once. Turns out I suck absolute balls with him, couldn't do shit to save my life. So Instead I just focused on poking down anyone I could safely hit and let my allies mop up the kills. My final score with him might have been pretty crappy, but my team won. Had I been stuck in a solo lane on SR with him (or in a duo lane with someone who couldn't go for cleanup kills) I would have likely fed out the ass and lost our team the game.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Except there's no way to alleviate a comp difference in ARAM. If the enemy has a poke comp then there's nothing you can do to not be poked on ARAM, in SR you can just ignore them, split push, go for neutral objectives. There's time to learn your champ on SR thanks to the slow pace of lanning phase while in ARAM you can't learn nuances because a slight mistake will be punished by the entire enemy team. On SR there's flanking, map rotations, split pushing, neutral objectives a choice of where everyone goes to best utilize them.

Minarde2 votes

in ARAM you can't learn nuances because a slight mistake will be punished by the entire enemy team

The other side of this argument is that you can learn nuances because a slight mistake will be covered by your own team.

Xonra2 votes

See I think exactly the opposite.

This is just ARAM, except without what makes it fun. This is just going to be a drug out 45 minute clown fiesta. ARAM is at least one lane and fast. This is just a normal game of LoL, except things are random.

RavenMagus2 votes

I'm okay with "normal game of LoL except things are random". I actually like that. I like randomness!

But many of the champions I like to play are assassins and skirmishers. In ARAM, you are locked into one lane, and the entire game is either constant sieging or constant head-on teamfighting and never anything else - so if your champion is bad at those, then you're shit out of luck. You can't flank the opposition in ARAM and you can't catch people out in the jungle.

Why is everything an affront to people and have to be a 'slap in the face'? Lazy? Sure, somethings might be. They're experimenting and while some things will have more effort put into it than others, that doesn't necessarily have to make it an open insult to everyone. You might not be old enough of a player but this is close to the OG ARAM without the honor system to stay Mid. I consider it an homage to that old version of ARAM that some people might love to have back.

Wheatloaf4 votes

It's not like Hexakill or Nemesis Draft were way more effort, but they still ended up some level of interesting. People need to calm their face-holes.

Papa Andrei4 votes

Its lazy yes, is it utter shit and someone needs to be burned at the cross for it? No.

Honestly, just make it pure Ultimate Bravery and call it good.

Limmie12 votes

As much as ARSR (more like ARSE! haha... nvm) doesn't appeal to me, I have to say none of those suggestions seem interesting either. They're an annoyance at best.

Dude, look at the date. This is obviously for april 1st. They will probs do soothing completely retarded (in a good way) in champ select.

Quort2 votes

No, this is obviously a slap in the face.

TheSingularity1 votes

How so? You seriously believe riot is dumb enough to implement an already existing thing as a DEDICATED GAME MODE!? That's like saying riot is dumb enough to to release a chroma for 4K RP

Quort2 votes

I'd believe it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's like people forgot April 1st was due.

TheSingularity3 votes

well tbh, very few ppl actually utilise april 1st. And when they do they take it waaaay to far

Xonra1 votes

Most people just don't care about April first, cause it isn't some national holiday.

Others of us would prefer to avoid it, cause having your co-worker put shaving cream in your desk, or cut the cord on your mouse wasn't funny the first time.

Honestly I don't mind this as much as I would think now that I had time to really let it sink in. Sure I could play a normal Blind/Draft game. But then there's that call out on role assignments or trying to play exactly by the meta. Sure this will still cultivate the same sentiment where it's like "I roll this champion, therefore I go here" but why should that always be the point? What if you don't have an authentic jungler? Bots never have one.

In the current way players see the game right now, this is innovative enough even though it looks less than fabulous. And yeah there's just doing AR setting in customs but how often are those done anyway. At least this time there's benefit with it rather than shuffling around for an amount of players that are willingly stepping into a potential different way of playing. And it's already uncommon that there are players willing to play that different type of game aside from URF.

Quort4 votes

This looks like a great game mode and I'm super excited to try it! Stop being a stick in the mud and live a little!

ModAcademy Kayn4 votes

This is a real stupid thing to get angry about. They're still trying to get other Rotating gamemodes to work with the new client, so yeah, a quick easy little gamemode really ain't that bad amidst the constant Poro Kings. Is it just the Random button in Champ Select? Yeah. Is it possible to get all tanks, while the enemy gets all supports? Yep, and that's something I'm fine with, because it sounds fun.

Ralanr3 votes

That's just really dumb.

If I want to play regular random SR, I'd go into a normal and blind pick my champion.

Sassmast3r3 votes

It's as if they're trying to force a player-base (which I believe is beyond repair) to play the game lightheartedly and not tryhard.

Normals (blind) are already like this, people just need to grow a pair and mute all players at the start of the game.

That's an interesting possibility. As a motivation for a game mode, it sounds silly; but the idea itself sounds thoughtless (in its capacity as a game mode), so you might be right.

IMO it's clear they're doing it for something other than the players' immediate satisfaction. It sounds like they might be taking some hints & hoping to understand something they might be missing.

Otherwise--if this is really supposed to be an attempt at a fully-fledged game mode--then maybe they need to re-think their internal structure, because the good ideas are just not making it.

Hyelin3 votes

I remember a post a week or a few weeks ago asking for this game mode to be implemented. Got a ton of upvotes...

crippler383 votes

imagine if they gave you a random champion (so random base stats) with random abilities and a random passive all of which could not synergize at all.

dota has this sort of thing where you get a random champion from a randomly selected pool then everyone yoinks abilities for themselves.

Daeneries3 votes

They should at least make it 6 players in each team

To be frank, idc. I've always wanted a random rift mode for games i just wanna fuck around in, but dont wanna aram. Yeah aram is great its a messy free for all brawl that can sometimes stumble you into a great pick that you work on mastering. but frankly sometimes I want to play a regular rift game but with a random ass team. Like I loved Nemesis draft cause it was close to that, but it sucked cause while random to you, it was obviously an attempt at sabotage so i mean enjoy yorick/Galio (Pre-reworks) Urgot/any support/ez to kill champ.

Is it lazy? Well kinda. Like he said it "just works" and thats cause they really just had to snip snip some aram codes in the champ select. (yes im waaayyy oversimplifying but ssshhh) but is it gonna be bad? Personally I dont think so. Im looking forward to it and honestly if it tests well and lots of folks play, I may quit ARAM altogether. This seems way more fun.

Who is Taliyah2 votes

Fact is that gamemode is pointless. You can create it in a custom game, the only difference is you won't be able to get ip and loot in customs.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

You also won't be able to assure that everyone will randomize their champs? You also aren't limited to only asking four random stranger on your team to do this while the enemy picks a meta comp?

ShadowParker2 votes

I see it more as, it's a super easy thing to implement while they work on other gamemodes. I don't think it's a terrible idea and I know I'll be giving it a try.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but even Nemesis draft was better than this shit.

Skins Project2 votes

Same problem as URF It was mentioned in a thread (2 lazy 2 look) But simply put this is supposed to be the replacement. Because with nemesis you'd see the same 16-20 champions (From 6 bans 10 forced picks) over and over...

Nickssaa2 votes

Did I miss something?

Skins Project2 votes

It's supposed to be like nemesis draft (I think that was the name) or the one where you choose for your opponent but just not as repetitive with the same champions over and over. (They mentioned once that's why they didn't want to bring it back)

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

When it comes to rotating game modes, anything is allowed. As long as it remains true to the core game-play of SR.

Because Riot doesn't want to deal with anything else anymore.

Cavesloth2 votes

What tilts even more is people have been begging for real URF for over a year now, and they give us this steaming turd.

Revali1 votes

I'm willing to give it a chance, might actually see some interesting off meta shit.
