Who can jungle now that couldn't before the preseason?

New jungle items, and a joke by Riot about Brand junling in the patch notes got me wondering this. Do any of you junglers out there know who can go into the jungle now that wouldn't have been viable before?

why remove trail blazer, trail blazer was good for champs who couldn't clear jung well.

I was really saddened by this.

They advertise the jungle as if it's allowing more champs to do well in it, but then they remove trailblazer, the one item that allowed champs with tough clears to stand a chance.

They gave reasons to remove Trailblazer. Not their fault you didn't bother to read them.

MohawkBird1 votes

As a matter of fact I did read them, so don't go making stupid assumptions to make yourself sound cooler. Is it possible that I just didn't feel their reasoning was valid enough to justify the removal of this item?

darkmatchwaldo3 votes

because it was abused by people likeLeeSin Nidalee and others who didn't really need it, but could use it to clear INSANELY fast and then have more than enough health to gank afterwords.

Xonra1 votes

They removed it because, as they said as a terrible excuse "no one was buying it, and it seemed a waste" or some such. Paraphrasing a lot there, but that was the reason because it wasn't actually good and wasn't being used (their words, not mine).

That was Poacher's Knife. They never said Trailblazer's was useless.

The problem with this is that if you couldn't clear the jungle well before, you couldn't clear well enough to get to your Trailblazer now.

With the decrease in cost to the starting items and the increase in cost to the jungle items, it is now required to be able to do a full clear in order to get your jungle item on your first back. If you can't clear well, then you can't get that jungle item in the first place.

At best, you will need to do three camps, back, then do another two-three camps, back again for Trailblazer, and then hopefully clear well enough in the jungle with Trailblazer that you can afford to be down 2-3 levels.

I haven't tried it yet but I assume Graves is pretty good in jungle - AOE autos, insta dmg on his q when hitting walls, lots of armor from E. The combo of the E dash/resistances, R dash, and W probably make him pretty good at getting away or dueling in the case of counterjungling.

Then again, with the state he's in, you can probably play support Graves and be successful.

The Rewritten3 votes

All slow junglers and AP junglers took a big hit, but that's off topic.

Graves can jungle now because of his changes, but besides that, no one really. The new itemizations for jungle make the early game jungle weaker overall and require either an early back or an extended early jungle run, both of which are sub-optimal when compared to Season 5's jungle pathing.

Karthus Brand still can't jungle anymore. It's not just a matter of mana, they don't have the health to full clear early game because sustaining the jungle has gotten harder. On top of this, given their considerable weaknesses, they just don't offer enough to justify playing them in the jungle.

I honestly think less champions are available now. AP junglers are considerably worse, barring one exception, and my favorite offpicks (Such as Talon) are not really worth it right now.

Finally, my favorite offpick is AD Malzahar. He hasn't really been impacted and could already jungle well before. Still can. It's unrelated to your thread but I'd give him a shot if you haven't.

Just get your passive ready to spawn a minion, then Q at 1:33 so it evolves to stage 2 by the time the buff spawns and you'll be starting off solid clear.

I call BS, I tried Karthus in a custom game as a proof of concept. And I had absolutely no problems clearing the Jungle and getting back with enough gold for the first Jungle upgrade.

I know Jarvan IV's jungling is now a lot better with the addition of the new items. With item 1400 item 2032 I was clearing and staying at full health after a very painful first clear (top decided saving his ward for his lane was more important than warding Red, so Shaco took it and I died shortly after to Raptors.) When I added item 3074 to the occasion it allowed me to heavily outscale Shaco as a huge initiator by instaclearing jungle camps, counterjungling and ganking whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Maybe I chose the wrong masteries, or Jungle items. But I had Trouble with Jarvan. When I tried him, I got executed on my 3rd camp.

When you have to back before getting both buffs and 3 camps, I call that poor sustain.

When you have to completely warp your runes/masteries to survive your first clear, I call that a poor choice.

I could be wrong, I haven't tested Karthus as extensively as other jungle mages, so I can't say definitively, but he certainly isn't helped out enough by the changes that it warrants picking him over any other jungle mage, let alone other junglers.

A lot of junglers just back after 2 camps now. You buy Hunter's potion and then come back and have ridiculous sustain.

BluePolarizer1 votes

that is absolutely terrible. You are now 1k gold behind laners, and you're expected to GANK? If you buy Hunter's Potion you are now 1.2k behind. What the fk? Back in season 5, if you didn't give up camps and powerfarmed you were almost even with laners in gold (200 gold behind or so at 7 minutes). Now you are 1000 gold behind because you had to spend 1000 gold to upgrade smite for no AD/AP/armor/MR/hp.

Personally, I feel like the needed exp from both items is worth going back regardless of sustain. (also it was more like 4 or 5 camps before I backed. I got the full upgrade, not just the other item.)

Though the problem with Karthus I argue isn't his sustain. If I recall correctly, Karthus' ability to Jungle relied on his AFK ganks with his ult. But still, that ability is wasted on the increase respawn times that were implemented from last season. He's item reliant, and works best with lane farm. (though this is to say that you can't make it work.)

Idk all I know is I'm 80% shit with Reksai now :/ My Main cant even play :( Sadness.

last Rek'sai i seen was going mid lane of all places, seems like a hard time to find a new spot for the mole queen.

I've been playing her just fine, and her jungle clear is a little better. Start w/ 3 health pots and hunter's machete.

If you get a double-jungle style leash at level one, where your toplaner tanks Gromp, Zyra can actually pull off jungle with the new mana starting item. If you start seeds and set them up ahead of time, they tank the camps very effectively, especially if you use abilities and autos to kill the little ones first (plants take 1 damage from every attack, and have 6 health). You can pull it off without that kind of leash, too, but it's harder; start Q and kite the camps as much as possible. You'll just be building like an AP carry; Runeglaive isn't worth it on Zyra.

PROS: Fast clears High sustain Acceptable pre-6 ganks, great post-6 ganks (Your E is best as a follow-up CC, since it's so easy to dodge).

CONS: Vulnerable to counter-jungling Requires a heavy leash Can have mana problems early Low mobility

Clockwork Mouse1 votes

I seen this before, my friend keep yelling in my ears that it was a bad idea letting one in. The clears were good as far as i saw. (this person though never ganked so she kind of let the team down >.>)

MisterHealYoGirl3 votes

Well, that's the player's fault, not Zyra's. xD

Ive been just going with maybe off meta? Olaf has been a really good jungle due to is W and his Q's CC , the movement slow is good. Not to mention his R lets him move towards enemies faster. He's not really off meta but I hardly see Olaf Jungle.

Olaf is still outright strong in the right comp. Sivir or even just a Karma really helps him. The problem is he requires coordination which is often sorely lacking.

I also feel late game he falls off, that's one of his issues too. He can get fed early in jungle while invading but falls off, late unless he plays for picks.

Xonra1 votes

He doesn't fall off really, but like that person said, you need coordination, and more so late. He turns into "hit ult, run at carry", which works, but not if your team doesn't support that. If you try to ult and run in, but your team pisses about, then you will just get focused and killed outright.

BluePolarizer1 votes

Not a single one. The new jungle was balanced for Lee Sin and Elise only. Shyvana's recommended starting item is Hunter's Talisman. On a manaless fighter. Absolute joke.

Clockwork Mouse2 votes

Isn't that in the shape of a dragon? Riot might be trolling with that one.

Annie could jungle any season. I've played her several times in teambuilder.

darkmatchwaldo1 votes

Quinn is insanely viable in the jungle right now

Xonra1 votes

Honestly it isn't that different. It leans more towards 1-2 max that could that are having some trouble (mostly farming junglers that fall behind because of less xp, but it isn't "omg the sky is falling").

I wouldn't say there are any that couldn't that suddenly could. You will always have the outliers people do just...because, like Heimer, Graves, Brand, and so on, but that is like saying that suddenly Urgot can support, when we all know that isn't actually going to happen more than once for fun.

Jungle Lux God1 votes

As it currently stands, there are very few champions that got better in the jungle that weren't already good junglers excluding some of the marksmen that got changes (ie. Graves I believe is pretty good in the jungle). This is largely because Hunter's Talisman just isn't that great of an item in the jungle for a lot of champions.

Once Talisman gets buffs, I think we could see a lot of different picks in the jungle, but in its current state there probably aren't too many champions that would actually be viable now.

I do honestly think that Malzahar jungle would probably be viable now and wasn't before just from what I've seen from his clears. Hunter's Talisman is about as good, if not slightly better than, the old Hunter's Machete on Malzahar because voidling tanking doesn't stop the regen passives on Hunter's Talisman the way they did on old Machete, Malzahar's array of DoT abilities have really good synergy with Talisman's passive, and the mana regen passive allows Malzahar more freedom to cast his abilities before he starts his clear since it works in the jungle and not in combat with monsters.

I tried clearing with him in a custom game, and I managed to do a full clear starting Hunter's Talisman and Refillable Potion, including taking Scuttle Crab at the end of the clear.

I think most people at this point are trying to find out what junglers from all the other seasons can actually jungle this one

Irelia Bot1 votes

back in my day the only champs who could jungle were rammus, warwick, fiddle and Udyr.
