The importance of farming. Very Important!

Farming is killing minions and monster camps which grant gold on death (only the last hitting player gets the gold) and thus, allows you to buy items faster than passive gold.

Last hitting minions is an essential skill in league. If the minion or monster is killed by someone/something other than you then, you will not get any gold from it. Last hitting is what ensures that you earn that gold and mastering this skill can benefit you greatly in both the early and mid to late-game.

Cs (creep score) is the number of minions/monsters you've killed throughout the game. The higher your cs, the more gold you get, the more items you have.

These are things almost everyone already knows but most players (which happen to be low elo) don't know how important farming actually is and how that low cs is one of the main reasons they're not doing very well in their games.

Here are some of the importances of farming:

  1. Out-farming your enemy laner essentially means you are winning your lane. (considering you're not feeding)
  2. The gold you get from good or even high cs allows you to buy more items. If you have more items than your opponent, it means that he/she can never fight you and win.
  3. High cs + low kill count = low cs + high kill count
  4. Farming a lot early helps you get the items necessary for taking objectives which will definitely turn the game into your favor.
  5. If you are falling behind, try to farm safely. This will help you get back into the game.
  6. Farming is the life of the adc. High cs as an adc will help you carry the game.
  7. Farming makes you control the minion wave whether you want to freeze or push the lane. Don't just focus on attacking champs.

I'm writing this post because in low elo, people just outright ignore farming. They only focus on getting kills which is NOT the only way you get gold. I don't even think players in low elo kill for gold or items, they think that gold just happens and they buy items with whatever gold they have. I'm not saying that this is the only bad thing in low elo but one thing everyone should know is that farming is a BIG part of league of legends. People there can last hit some minions, not perfect but they last hit some. It's ok, maybe they're still learning how to last hit minions so, at least they're trying. The real problem is mid and late-game when people just forget minions even exist! Sometimes it's 40min in and some people aren't even near full build.

I myself am a silver adc main. My farm was generally bad and let's not talk about my positioning then. I actually thought I was good xD. But once I've seen pro-players talk about cs and farming (special thanks to phylol) I decided to try and focus more on my gameplay and especially my farming. The results were INSANE. I almost always have full build before everyone else, I've started taking a lot more objectives, I get more kills/die less, ganking me is harder and I get S ranks nearly half of my games.

At this time of victory I realized something; in ALL my games, I have nearly 80-100 cs more than the enemy adc which is a huge gold difference.

I hope a lot of people read this and make use of it. Please, feel free to share your opinions and advices too :)

Edit: A lot of people misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm not saying that league is about cs, I'm saying that I've seen people with GODLY mechanics that can do great plays and outplays and things like that, but end up with shit farm and I mean low af farm that they have less items which causes them to lack the sufficient damage to get a kill. This post is mainly for low elo players that ignore farming.

I'd state this is even more important in top lane because of how much an island it is. Kills are a chance. Minion farm is a sure thing.

I had a game yesterday/early this morning where I was doing poorly in deaths but then I looked at the farm and realized I was actually ahead in gold because while I did cough up two kills, I had nearly 40 more cs at the time.

I immediately calmed down, kept my head in the game and then hit my item spikes anyway. Ended the game 70 farm up on my opponent.

But don't farm too much

Lightning I1 votes

It's really hard to be useful as an adc without much farm. (unless the enemy team feeds me)

unless the enemy team feeds me

That's where the jgler and 5-man ganks come in ;]

i mean im diamond and i CS way less than you, climbed from silver to p2 on my smurf in like 100 games with 70% win rate, point is CS isnt everything

Kills are a gamble. Let's say we both know how to play our champions really well and we face each other in lane, I could kill you and you could kill me. No one is really sure whether he's going to be better than his opponent or not, the only thing we're sure of is cs. Minions spawn, you last hit minions and Boom free gold.

I'm not saying cs IS everything but it is very important. Try playing a game with 0 cs and see how you'll do.

fair enough but I could CS 3 per min and you could CS 8 per min and i'll still beat you with macro

haha you've been playing since s4, maybe you can.

OR

You haven't faced Me yet [sg-ezreal]

as a midlaner what i hate about league right now is that laning phase ends at 8-10 mins after top or bot gets first blood turret and we rotate to get other towers/objectives so i dont usualy get more than 150 cs a game :/

I've mentioned that people forget about minions. Minions Still exist after laning phase. They are there so, why not kill them for free gold?

Even though it's quite important, it seems like you make it look like the be-all end-all. No, CSing is as important as map pressure / map awareness, short trades and laning mechanics in general and so much more.

Winning in CS doesn't always mean you won the lane or that you will win the 1v1 or 2v2 in lane. If anything, having 20 more cs than your opponent means that you probably get an extra longsword or an extra cloth armour or whatever, which won't make a big difference most of the time, since there are other factors that are so much more influentional like hitting skillshots, AAing correctly, playing around minions, to the point that 10 extra AD won't really make a difference. That said, it is an advantage and it's good to have.

People really need to open their eyes and realize what "winning lane / game" really means and what it requires. People keep thinking that "oh I killed and outcsed my enemy, so I won the lane and SHOULD HAVE WON THE GAME IF IT WASN'T FOR MY USELESS TEAM". Or just the "I won my lane" thing. They do not understand that even by the standards of winning lane, it doesn't mean anything. Of course I will stomp an enemy Akali with Irelia, but if I do not do anything with the advantage I have, then the Akali will just shit on my squishies way harder than I do, thus having a lot more impact and win the late game teamfights by picking off a couple of people.

Also, saying that if you fall behind, you can just sit under tower and farm up and you will be back in the game is probably the worst advice you can give to anyone. "Stop dying, farm under tower and we will win" is what people usually say in bronze and silver. Going higher up though, apart from the fact that someone will just dive you and kill you under tower, it means that you offer little to no help to your team, while the enemy team will just get vision control, take other objectives and keep getting an even bigger lead, which you will never recover from. Also, farming under tower means that you will probably miss out on some cs and take a lot of tower damage, even eventually the lane will push out to the point you either risk going away from the tower and dying, or losing out on some xp/gold by hugging tower.

Tl;dr. Farming is important but there are so many other things in the game that will probably win you more games.

20 cs? hahaha that's funny because I end up with 100 more cs around mid or late game which DOES make a difference from what I've seen.

You're right, I am silver, but I never said anything about farming under tower. As a matter of fact, farming under tower is one of the most challenging ways to farm. Is it even that safe? I literally said: "Farm safely" which is to farm while staying safe, like being close to your team and not to farm alone in sidelanes where assassins can easily one shot you.

Cs isn't the be-all end-all but the gold you get from it helps a lot, which is about 5.8k gold at 250 cs.

i noticed that players around gold actually focus too much on cs.

I am yet to notice that

yeah, I worded this terribly.

what I meant was, that even though, there are more people in low elos that don´t care about cs than people who pay attention to it, when they learn how important cs is, they go in the complete opposite direction to improve themselves, only focusing on farming, never taking chances, no ganks, no roams, always sitting on sidelines getting caught and never grouping in extreme cases.

imo it´s ok how people stress the importance of cs, since it´s the easiest way to get an advantage over your enemy in lower elos, but they should not forget that the next step is to learn when to neglect farm in favor of objectives or simply helping your teammates. incorporating csing into your makro play is different than just knowing how to cs and a mandatory skill if u want to climb at a certain point.
