Ban Totals

I was having a discussion the other day with some fellow players and a thought came up. When/will Riot ever increase the number of bans on each side. It would seem to me that as they number of available champions increases the way it does, the number of bans at your disposal is less and less effective. Three bans for a roster of 50 champions affects the game much more then three bans for a pool roster of 200. I don't think it needs to go overboard, but having each side have 4 or 5 bans for the foreseeable future seems justifiable.

Any thoughts?

its not needed

true the champion roster becomes bigger over time, but with the way the meta shifts and items change etc etc the pick/win rate and viability of champs also changes. then theres the champs that can/are effectively played at every elo

so its not, lets ban more of those OP champs, its more of making an informed or educated decision on whos worth a ban. It also comes up into how your team comp will be setup (which is irrelevant in solo/duo que) because say you wanna make a team that utilizes these champions, but have no hard cc or high mr to deal with Katarinas burst potential...you get my point.

That argument doesn't make much sense, though. The same meta shifts have been there from the get-go; just like there are good/questionable picks now, there were good/questionable picks then. Bans then were an educated selection of who the team would not fare well against, bans NOW are a (usually) educated selection of who the team would not fare well against. 3 bans are not enough because if you ban one champion, odds are the enemy team can find a champ that does almost the same job. With 50 champions, each one has a dedicated niche. Now? That same niche often has 2 or more options.

"they dont need it" the meta is stagnant; its the same 20 or so champions every year with maybe 10 champions of variation.

People get USED to playing the same overpowered and broken champions. People get used to very specific compositions. Because of this, players begin to get set in their ways and simply cannot cope with changes.

2 bans per person. Force the meta to shift constantly. People never get set in their ways. More champions get exposure. Less people rely on the overpowered champions. More overall skill level. More overall variability. More fun games.

I guess I have to respectfully disagree. While I agree solo duo que isn't as much affected by this because you are mixing random playstyles together with usually no coordination between teammates, in team 5's the ability to identify a weakness and ban it out gets reduced everytime a new champion is introduced. If I am in a ranked 5's team who has issues with assassins, we could ban them out for the most part. But with the player pool widening and more champions falling into these categories, your ability to combat your weakness diminishes. You can't really compare it to the pro circuit, because one, 99 % of us aren't pro, and two, the pro's are usually banning champions aimed at weakening specific players on the other team. Obviously in ranked 5's outside the pro scene you aren't going to know your enemy's strengths, so you have to ban your weaknesses. Also, just because certain champions are popular in the meta right doesn't mean you struggle against them. If (for example) a Leblanc is really powerful at the moment but your mid laner has been really good at fighting them there isn't much of a need to ban the Leblanc, but you could throw that ban at a different champ or lane your team struggles against. I'm not suggesting they give a lot of bans, but I think 4-5 makes sense. I agree with Biff Manly for one ban for each player. In ranked 5's you are going to be coordinating anyway, and in solo/duo you at least have some say in the ban process. There is nothing like having a person ban out just their lane so they have an easy time at the expense of the rest of the team. 5 bans gives you a bit more control in an increasingly expanding champion pool, while not going overboard.

One ban for each player, do away with captain dictatorship!

They need like suggested bans with reroll system like we have in aram. And we have a limited number of rerolls. So like 3 perm bans 2 suggested ban. Can't trade rerolled champs either. Otherwise people would abuse it...

Not saying it this is the solution but a play off this idea, something like it could work.
