Is spellsword still a thing, or am I crazy?

Spellsword is a season 3 mastery -Your basic attacks deal bonus magic damage equal to 5% of your ability power.

The Veigar in my last game, for some reason, did 4-5 times more damage per autoattack against my Zz'Rot Portal than his team's Jarvan. Veigar did not have item 3057 or any item that has auto-enhancing buffs. No pot, no lvl 2 dragon buff.

At first, I thought that maybe riot nerfed Zzrot's health, until I saw that Jarvan was dealing only around 1/4th of what Veigar was doing per auto. I'm assuming they had the same amount of ad, since neither of them build any attack damage.

Is this a glitch, or is there a scientific explanation?

Edit: Veigar had thunderlord, but I'm assuming it wasn't due to thunderlord, since I remember him procing the damage every aa.

After 40% of AP becomes greater than your AD you begin to deal a percentage of your AP to structures.

I believe the void gate is treated the same as any other structure.

So just like champion damage turrets based on base AD + max(bonus AD, 50% AP), the same applies to the void gate. So a huge AP veigar would be chunking it like crazy, while a bruiser J4 won't do much damage.
