How does Jax's lock on to Kha when in void assault? Despite not being in range?

So I just played a game on ranked as kha jungle vs a jax jungle. We lost the game cause top and mid got snowballed in 1v1's but what struck me out as weird was we were having a 3v3 fight down bot. I knew the brush I was in wasn't warded but an enemy caitlyn was in it fighting me. She hadn't placed a trap and I went and used my R suddenly Jax is able to lock on jump onto me despite him being out of range when I was visible and when in range to jump I was invisible and cait was not hitting me.

Can anyone explain this?

I've also noticed this on a few other occasions where certain champs apart from prediction skill shots are able to ability lock on to me even though I've launched into void assault instantly and yet still take damage.
