Elo Hell Isn't Real - If you are stuck in ____ rank it is your fault.

MajKaj·4/8/2018, 3:48:10 PM·7 votes·844 views

Every single day I watch a youtube video or look at forums or look at anything at all on the internet t hat has to due with League I see people complaining about how they can't carry and how their teams are just so bad and they hold them back. Yet these same people either have 10 games played in ranked which is NOWHERE near how many games they need to show their real rank (whether it is the same, lower, or higher) or they have 900 games in b3 with a 48% winrate. If you can't climb out of a specific rank, it is because you are not good enough to do so. If you were a better player than your rank you will climb. The fact that boosting is even a thing is proof that this is true, do people pay other people to be luckier on their accounts? No. They pay them to win games because they are better than them. Especially in bronze, if you are good enough literally almost every single game is winnable.

I think there is a legitimate greviance with MMR though

I don't thinke "elo Hell" as most would put it is quite accurate

but there are points in ranked where things get fucky

I think silver is unfair sometimes on both ends, it always feels like a stomp or getting stomped

plus it's home of all the starting smurfs and sinking stones

then there are those players who actually are just a bit better than where they're at, they can't really be expected to carry as hard as someone who's miles ahead

Stop, making legitimate arguements is not allowed on the boards.

Or you could just make a "Silver elo is surprisingly hard" thread on the boards and farm upvotes from people who desperately want to hear that.

Hm. Maybe. But it depends. You cannot play Braum and expect to carry every match. This will not work imho, even not in bronze.

For other elo´s it depends on the amount of matches someone plays. The 10 are nearly nothing, correct. And so maybe let´s say 30 are not enough. Just for me as an example. After placing matches I was Bronze1. I needed 50 matches to get Silver3 and some up´s und down´s later with so called "unwinnable" matches it needed another 65 Matches to get Silver3. So altogether there were 115 matches to climb out of bronze1 to silver3.

I am quite sure that this is not the end.... but.... woah.... my teams... There was a losing-streak in Silver4 of 5 matches and you can believe me that there were nothing to do left there. I oscillated between S4 and S5 several times before I got a winning streak of 14 matches out of 18. And so are actually my teams most often trash. As it needed 65 matches for Silver3 I think it could need same amount or more (depending on luck) to get Silver2.

So - TL:DR ..... : even if someone is better then his actual elo it depends well on the amount of matches/time spent to climb. So I can understand that some of the players think there is an elo hell. It´s not really "untrue".

You sir, are a genius. I never thought of using ELO boosters as supporting evidence for why people are stuck at their ranks.

Every year, I read posts from real plat and diamond players smurfing in silver and saying there are games they legitimately cannot carry - and they're not stuck on support in those games either.

In the past, one exceptional player could out-shine one really bad one, but this season especially, that is generally untrue unless you main adc and are god tier in low elo.

Like your jungler deciding to suicide to your laner 2x, gift them doubles, and steal all cs to freeze for your opponent every time you base so that despite missing maybe 5 cs by lvl 4, your opponent is now level 6 through literally 0 fault of your own. And... bot is losing gracefully and mid is getting bodied. And your jungler is 3 levels behind the enemy jg despite stealing 40 cs from you. Yep, if you were good, you would totally carry that. End highest farm on your team w/o stealing from teammates and 4/2/0 kda thanks to good roams and tp plays to help bot lane and mid. But it's still an ff @ 15 rather than play another 2 and watch nexus implode. Totally carryable if you were just... a mid tier gold stuck in mid tier silver or something like that.

Last season I legit had a 90% loss rate for 2 weeks in a row because I would get 1-2 lanes that go 1/7/0 and half the farm of their opponent, unwilling to adjust play, unwilling to show any attempt at teamwork. I dropped from s3 to s5 0lp. Then I got reasonable matches with teammates who generally performed on-par with their opponents and would work with each other to make INTELLIGENT plays. They didn't always win lane and sometimes lost pretty badly - on a rare blue moon my team could carry me even if I'd chosen to run it down lane (didn't but could have). But aside from those few rare occasions, my teammates were not hard carrying games, yet in less than 2 weeks, I climbed from s5 0lp to g5. I continued climbing to g3. Now I didn't magically get massively better while dropping from s3 to s5, so the difference is purely that my teams went from literally impossible to carry to... reasonable. And this is a previous season gold player... who was stuck in bot tiers of silver for those 2 weeks unable to buy a win even if he goes 4/0/0 while being camped by enemy jungle for 20 minutes and being able to 1v2 anyone on the other team. There are games completely uncarryable. And even if you deserve much higher rank than you currently are, it can take a TON of perseverance to achieve that rank.

if you are barely a gold player, but should be in gold, chances are you will not make it to gold. There lies the problem with ranked system. RNG.

We do far more harm than good by continueing to pretend that elo hell doesn't exist at this point. Look at all of the bullshit forced 50% or winstreak conspiracy theories running around.

The elo system is very good for Mobas. It places the majority of players where they should be. It places the majority of the remaining players close to where they should be.

However, league also has a LOT of players. Not every single person will get to where they belong, there will invariably be some players who are consistently above or below where hey should be.

OP you are kinda right and Wrong.

Bronze is filled with people who are not mechanically there so you end up being able to stomp through it.

Silver on the otherhand feels like its hard to tell who should be lower or higher. That is because fresh players by default are set to silver rank. What that means is Smurfs/veteran players are steamrolling through new players and you are at the mercy of RNG as to hoping you do not get new players on your team.

That create games where you go on massive losing streaks when you are doing well each game or massive winning streaks even when you felt like you didn't do much.

The Silver problem got increased 10 fold when they changed the game to make it more team focused where as in previous seasons hyper carrying was much easier to do. Now its like even if you are head if bot lane loses too hard you are pretty much out of luck. I mean even Riot is aware of this thats why they are trying things like changing shutdown gold to from team to the person who shut them down, so they can snowball.

In summary, yea Elo Hell kinda exists in Silver because it is a mixed bag of various skilled players rather than a static set skill level. i mean i can have games where no one dies more than 3 times and games where everyone but me dies more than 15 times.

The only real Elo Hell is around Silver III where new unplaced players doing their promos are thrown. They could be Gold 1, they could be Bronze 5. There's just no way to know.

LetYourSleepWane4/8/2018, 6:55:38 PM1 votes

This is true but only for a decent sample size like 75-100+ games. Below that, variance can be huge. Get an afk in your placements, a few other trolls etc. and you'll start much lower. If you also have a few more unfortunate games... maybe lose 9/10 50 50 games, your MMR can tank hard before your skill and performance reach parity.

LetMeCarry19834/8/2018, 9:25:37 PM1 votes

I'd like to see you do this in Silver. Bronze is nothing.

SirNikolai4/9/2018, 6:23:24 AM1 votes

First of all EUW have different players than NA. Yet your missing the fact that this is a free game so any age could be b5 to G5.

The MMR has its own problems If your internet sucks I'm afraid you will keep finding the same lobbies that people d/c due to their internet problems. Fixed your internet before even playing kids. Trolls and afkers, rage quitters they all exist and mostly likely under 20.

If I had a 5 premade team with pure communication my team wouldn't lose to random kids. It's a fact every game you will get a child in one of your games that's just garbage in al areas.
