You're a year late to be asking for a revert. Second, you know there's a definite problem with Galio when you mentioned that no one played him. And no, you yourself don't speak for the community.

His old kit was just as dumb as his melee AAs.

  • His old passive forced him to build some amount of MR to be noticeable, hence became a seriously weak pick against AD matchups.

  • His Q was easily dodgeable.

  • His W maybe the one thing which was considered a decent kit.

  • His E was similar to Ezreal's old W: Just a spam-damage with no logic.

  • His ult was the most broken thing in the whole League: An ult that can't be reduced by tenacity & can only be countered if you have QSS or an empowered CC autoattack like Udyr or Blitzcrank. Good luck trying to evade a Flash+Ult combo.

Right, but he had a very specific role he could fill and did it very well. We absolutely demolished teams with an AP centric comp. He shouldn't have been used in match-ups against zed or talon. That was never his role. Everything you are describing shows me that you never played a single game with pre-rework Gallo. His E was great as an engage boost and would have decent synergy with today's champs. His Q is relatively the same in hitbox, except now it comes from both sides instead of straight on. I liked his old ult too. I would love if the new ult animation could sync with his old ult and taunt.

How is his ult any different than an ult like orianna? Or an ult like yas? Or an ult like nami? Or annie? All of those ults are aoe and can lock you up for a pretty large chunk of time especially when chained.

Current Galio is still somewhat usable against AD comps compared to old Galio, thanks to his new W & a passive which doesn't strictly force him to build too much MR. And his E was almost as bad as Gangplank's Raise Morale ult upgrade to be usable as an engage. Even Sivir & Kled does a better job at engaging than his E. His Q back then didn't actually have a large hitbox, and was easily predictable to dodge.

  • Orianna has a small wind-up before it actually damages & pulls enemy in.
  • Yasuo needs an Airborne condition, and his 3rd Q animation is a giant red warning.
  • Nami.....literally has a wave coming at you at a slower speed than Yasuo's Q. Why even mention her at all...?
  • Annie is a good example, and is still an unhealthy thing to go against. Remember when a lot of players requested for Annie to fling her bear instead of it being insta-cast?

And Galio? You just stand next to your enemy, press R, and is literally an instant taunt-cast. No dodge window, no wind up, nothing. It's as toxic as Darius's old Q.

You mention two champions that utilize their ults to engage vs. a champion that had it on one of his standard skills. Apples to oranges. Galio still relied on poor grouping to take advantage of the other team. It's not like his ult pulled everyone into shit position. The reason those champs were mentioned is because they all have ultimates that take advantage of teams that group up incorrectly and lock them up for large periods of time. Galio's old damage was overturned, but only if you landed it on champions with high damage output (once again, a factor of poor management).

gang-plank's raise morale was a useful ability

now we have an ability that got him nerfed to oblivion, makes him into a lane bully and is just there "becuz pirate likey explosions!"

I liked the jolly roger gangplank both because few people played him and because he was fun as a supporting carry

Why? Because it is completely accurate based on his lack of any sort of understanding of galio's kit?

Because based on the one comment you've made I'm gonna say that you lack any sort of understanding of old Galio's kit.

I won the argument now. /s

It's really a pointless, unnecessary line that adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.

And no sarcasm here but Galio was actually picked as a counter to assassins to include Zed and Talon. So that really shows your understanding of him.

u talking crack with a 0.01 pick rate vs zed lmao ad vs pre galio was gg

Z3Sleeper1 votes

You're acting like it's a 1v1 between Galio and the Zed. It's not. All Galio did was shove waves pre-rework. He had 0 interaction with the enemy laner if he didn't want to interact. Waveclear was much more prominent then because that was before Riot started nerfing waveclear across the board.

This is talking as if Zed had any priority over Galio pre-6 though, which he didn't. Galio actually completely bullied Zed pre-6.

Moving on though, later in the game Zed isn't focusing Galio, he's focusing the ADC. Galio's ult instantly cucked Zed the moment he tries to ult anyone. Even if Zed was trying to ult Galio himself, Galio's ult still cucked him since Galio gained 50% damage reduction during it and still forced Zed to sit there for 2 seconds which was a total death sentence.

Oh come on now. The only reason old Gallo was picked to counter assassins was because of his ult. Galio was never the go-to pick against a zed.

I'm not speaking out of personal bias, I'm speaking factually as I remember this being the case. Sadly I can't seem to find or recall winrates but every video of Zed vs Galio I'm able to dig up is showing Galio beating out Zed.

I mean hell look at 8:33 where he almost destroys Zed with nothing but a Dorans Ring and a Chalice but Jarvan gets the ult cancel to save him and secure the kill.

I wouldn't go that far. Zed was already lower and it was a 2v2. Nothing in this video shows a Galio as a great counterpick to a zed.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

I mean yeah if we ignore the fact that he built full magic resist and Zed still was never a kill threat to him.

We never saw the damage of zeds ult tick off except to kill him. It was obviously enough to kill him, but there was help from the teammate. Like I said, nothing about the video shows Galio as a counterpick to zed.

WEREW0LF1 votes

not o mention there are many ults that now, you cant even cleanse out of. I believe Zed? Fizz? And hell Zac's is basically a small AOE and that thing will even move OLAF with his ult on.

old galio was sik his aa was bad

Z3Sleeper1 votes

He wasn't reworked for being weak. He was reworked for having an outdated kit that relied solely on 5 man flash ults to completely cheese games.

The only time that wasn't the case was when his numbers were simply too high and ulting wasn't necessary cuz Q and E were essentially oneshotting people.

Reworks are all about keeping the most "iconic" aspects of the champion alive in their rework. Why do you think the absolute most iconic part of old Galio (his ult) wasn't kept for new Galio?

3TWarrior1 votes

they did keep it, they just weakened it for his W, of course the champion's gameplay, appearance and lore are probably completely different now

Z3Sleeper1 votes

Yeah weakened as in it did literally no damage but now it deals up to 180 (+ 60% AP), which is atleast something now. They really identified that it was one of the more problematic parts of his old kit.

They liked the aoe taunt thing for teamfighting, so they kept that but removed the perpetual taunt, the instantaneous effectiveness of flash taunt, and severely reduced the damage.

Z3Sleeper3 votes

Yup, I like new Galio.

He's not gonna get reverted ever due to people like me who actually like him and cuz Riot would rather not waste all the time and money that went into Galio and his skin production (including every pre-rework skin they updated).

Reverting an ability like Rengar's Q? Sure. Trashing a new model, VFX, VO, lore, coding and all the tons of balance work? Not happening.

Sephi519 votes

nothing from the old galio remained. exept for the aoe taunt i guess? which shen also has one of. it would have been easy to keep the old galio and release the new "Galio" as an entirely new champion.

I don't understand this argument. The point of a VGU isn't primarily to keep what made a champion a champion (Which by the way, yes they fucking did. Old Galio's entire gimmick was his flash taunt, which he STILL HAS). The point is to modernize them and cycle their outdated qualities out of the game. What did old Galio actually bring to the game, aside from a cheese ult? Unique role? Annie does the exact same thing he did, with a smaller AOE and more damage.

Reworking him into a Warden was the best thing that could have happened to him, and the old Galio mains that are sad they can't cheese burst people anymore need to grow up. Nobody complained when Sion was reworked into a tank, they fucking applauded it, and he and old Galio were practically in the same boat with their AP burst cheesiness.

Alright, fine, fair I guess. But I've never seen any player who knows the game well deny that he is well designed. Only recently that he's become what he is due to the meta shifting am I now seeing people complain about him. I've seen people complaining about current Galio day 1, and then Riot turned him into an AP bruiser instead of a tank, and now more people are complaining about him

Everyone applauded Galio too. He just gained some haters when he was too strong and too weak like any other champion.

Literally all of those champs could effortlessly outplay Galios old kit. Even the one that barely even has mechanics(Nocturne). None of those champions would have an issue with Galio...

3TWarrior2 votes

not entirely sure about that. His old W would keep him alive if not full health through almost all of their burst damage

yasuo hates melee champs and champs that can bypass his wall

akali does almost entirely magic damage

kassadin is only good for his scaling and post 6 ganks but otherwise he would have a hard time in lane

mundo would be healing galio with his harass

nocturne MIGHT be able to deal with galio but again, he heals the more damage you do to his shielded target

Old galio's entire role was being a brick wall that hits back at a range

he wasn't a flashy carry (which is why mordekaiser and several others such as galio and gangplank) were ignored by the playerbase, but he had a job and he did it well. Tank and harrass, that is what Galio did

Rework was too good. They had to gut the champion afterwards for it to be playable without dominating the game because he was literally a powerhouse in every aspect. If you played him on re-release and consequent buff -- it was extremely clear. Especially in pro play.

Unfortunate design, but certainly more interactive and dynamic than the previous iteration.
