Possible Vayne Changes and Why Vayne is Strong/Popular Now
So, lately, and I'm sure many people feel the same way as evident by posts on these boards, I have noticed Vayne making a resurgence and I have not particularly liked it. This is simply because she is too strong right now, compared to other adcs.
Adc as a role is pretty lackluster and weak at the moment, with not really any strong picks. That's not to say that it is pretty balanced and solid right now. It's mostly because the adc is pretty pathetic right now (in my own opinion). You don't pick adcs to win games anymore. You pick them to help others with the game. Most adcs have been nerfed and even some have been nerfed to the point where they just don't do enough damage to be taken seriously (i.e. Lucian). So now, adcs are mostly picked for specific roles in the team dynamic. For example, you pick Corki or Ezreal when you want to have a poke comp, Sivir obviously for her speed and massive aoe, Kalista for her utility in her ult/w and the threat of her rend.
It is because of this weakness in the adc role and the resurgence of tanks/bruisers that is why Vayne is so popular and strong right now. Vayne has always been strong in a hidden way. She was a pocket pick that you would go for when the odds were in your favor. When assassins and bursty mages were popular, Vayne suffered as she would get popped instanly, and unlike most adcs, she suffered more. If a Graves is targeted by an assassin, he could just try to burst them right back, and so could Lucian or Miss Fortune to an extent. And if not, they could just dash out. Vayne's mobility ties in to her ability to q and chase, and if she is unable to auto to reset her q or chase, she will lose all semblance of mobility. So she has to fight her way out, but would most of the time get bursted by a Zed who could just ult and jump back, and proceed to laugh at her while she popped. And Vayne has low range, hurting her chances of fighting back.
However, as the meta shifted, Vayne became more popular as other adcs became weaker. As I said earlier, she has always been strong. It just took the meta change and the nerfs to more dominant adcs to reveal her strength. When you compare her to the other three top tier late game adcs (Jinx, Tristana, Kog'Maw), she is most similar to Kog'Maw. Both of them have short base range (not counting Kog's w), shred tanks, and have a fairly weak early/mid game. However, Kog'Maw is drastically outclassed by Vayne, and will lose every time when compared to a Vayne. Why? Well let's see. Vayne is mobile, gets high ad-steroids from her ult, can basically duel anything that can't burst or outrange her, self-peel with the invisibility from her ult, and does not require an entire composition built around her. What does Kog have over her? Range and more shred is all I can think of. So why does Vayne, with all the other perks of her kit, have almost as much as shred as an adc who was designed to shred tanks like they are paper? Hmm?
Now to the point of this post: Vayne does need some kind of change. I don't think her damage, mobility, or even the special parts of her kit, like her invisibility, ad steroid, etc. needs to be nerfed.
The only part of her kit that I believe needs to be removed is the interaction between condemn and silver bullets. For those of you that do not know it, you can proc your silver bullets (W) with your condemn (E), allowing you to simply auto twice or auto-tumble-condemn to proc your silver bullets (AA-Q/AA-E). I think that it's a little unfair to get silver bullets proc on someone and be able to knock them away with little or no return damage. It allows her to easily win trades that she would ordinarily lose. For example, if you are dueling a Graves, you could simply do the combo and he would have no reply, as you would knock him out of buckshot range if he had not already used it. Doing that combo at ideal times can cause you to win lane, which Vayne really shouldn't do with her kit (as it is designed for late game).
If riot chose to nerf her, as I have mentioned before, I don't think her damage or mobility needs the nerf. Mostly, I feel that her W needs a little nerfing. The fact that it does % max health true damage in addition to flat true damage. That is pretty broken, since she can easily shred tanks who have no true way of itemizing against her. Kog'maw, who was designed to shred tanks, doesn't even have %true damage, he has %magic damage. I believe that it shouldn't be simply nerfed by just taking away some damage or something. Instead, it should be changed by either taking away the %max health damage completely, and just improve the flat true damage (to like 60/70/80/90/100 maybe?), or by converting the %max health to physical or even magical damage. The first option would allow her to still shred tanks who build a lot of armor, but will allow them to actually benefit from more health against her. The second option would allow her to shred tanks who build at lot of health, but allow them to build armor/mr against her like they would against Kog.
At any rate, Vayne does need changes. She is simply too strong right now, and unfair to play against. In addition, her weak laning phase is no longer significant as the support meta changed. She does not need to worry about a weak laning phase with a hulking Nautilus to tank everything and output damage, or a Tahm who could simply eat her if things go wrong (and does a considerable amount of damage himself). So please Rito, change her, and don't simply gut her or nerf something stupid like her q damage or even her e damage (I'm looking to you about the Katarina change, her e damage? really? When was that ever the main source of her damage?).
TL;DR: Meta shifts along with adc role weakening led to Vayne being picked more. Vayne proven to be op. Possible Vayne changes to w %max health/taking away w-e combo.
