Sunfire cape is completely overshadowed by Deadman's plate now.

One could argue its cheaper but deadman's gives a lot of beneficial stats to a tanky frontliner like move speed for initiation, higher armor and more HP than sunfire it also does damage itself while being pretty low.

Where sunfire is ment to be damaging tank item it seems completely outclassed. I honestly think sunfire should be changed to have it scale on your own hp in damage.

Something like 10+1.5% max HP

Petition to make Sunfire Cape turn you into the actual sun.

I wish you lots of luck getting free AoE with Dead Man's.

Good discussion. I'm interested in knowing what the items guys think, so ask a few questions and try to pop back here sooner or later with a response.

I see Sunfire Cape as a tank item, and DMP as a juggernaut/bruiser item.

I can't think of many tanks, or at least any I play (Malph Cho Braum Thresh, and Blitz Gnar to a lesser extent), that really benefit from DMP's passives. Most of them already have ways to get in and disrupt the back line, so they don't really need Dreadnought (though it wouldn't hurt them), and most of them also drop off in damage pretty hard once they've unleashed their combo, which makes Crushing Blow both redundant and useless. This type of champ makes more sense to build Sunfire Cape on.

Juggernauts are tanky damage dealers, NOT tanks. Their purpose isn't to disrupt one team and peel for the other so much as to shred one or two squishies while ignoring the rest of the enemy team. Sunfire Cape doesn't make sense on them, because it's offensive against the team when they only want to murder one or two members. Further, they usually lack great engagement skills, and if they do have them (like Jax or Darius), it's hard to stick to the person they want to kill—and this is more important for juggernauts than tanks because their point is to stick to someone, not lock them down. DMP makes much more sense on these champions.

In a League that focuses more on bruisers than tanks, DMP will overshadow SF Cape, but that's not a bad thing, and there are still many champs that would rather build Cape than DMP.

However I am but a humble Bronzie so feel free to poke holes in that. Peace!

Both items fill a similar role: HP + Armor + Damage that doesn't come from extra AD or AP.

Sunfire gives you sustained damage, DMP gives you burst. Burst is generally better in the current meta.

The problem is that DMP also gives you mobility, which a ton of tanky champions are hungry for. In the League of Mobility, the sustained damage from Sunfire is less impactful simply because without heavy lockdown, you're not going to be standing next to someone long enough for the damage to stack up to any significant numbers.

One solution is to get rid of the Sunfire active and replace it with something like the passive on item 3151 where auto attacks could apply a DoT burn, and you get additional movement speed when moving toward a target that's burning for extra chasing power (may need to make it melee only to prevent ranged abuse, hello Ezreal). That way DMP could help you get to a target, and Sunfire could help you stick to that target. Similar items, different uses. And they have synergy with each other.

item 3068 is already overshadowed by item 3709 in pretty much everything but the armor it gives and now item 3742 comes to put the final nail in the coffin of item 3068 's usefulness.

RIP item 3068 you will be remembered... maybe

My problem with item 3068 (450HP/45armor) is its low stats. item 3143 (400HP/60armor) slightly less HP, but WAYYY more armor. item 3742 (600HP/50armor) nuff said. item 3056 (300HP/50armor) has more armor, not bad HP and no one even really thinks of that as a main tank item.

Sunfire has been a lot weaker since its nerfs. Only champion that should build this item is Shen or Malphite.

It wasn't as bad ever since Randuin's got nerfed recently, but I agree that Deadman's overshadows it completely.

Deadman's is a broken item anyway. Gives WAY too much movement speed. Should lower it to 30 or something. 60 is just ridiculous.

Does shen get waveclear from dead mans?

Jungle Lux God9/21/2015, 8:30:00 PM4 votes

The last time Sunfire dealt good damage it defined the entire top lane meta, along with Spirit Visage. I'm not sure that we want that.

I think the biggest thing wrong with Sunfire Cape is that its passive isn't entirely a benefit. If you buy it, you can't freeze the lane, you can't push a tower, you can't go past jungle creeps without taking damage (including dewarding the epic monster pits). The damage isn't strictly an upside, and that's what's wrong with the item.

Making the passive a toggle instead or making it only apply in combat would go a long way to improving the item without having to make it better without fixing its problems.

You know item 3068 suck when even Garen is not using it anymore.

The magnitude at which people in this thread misunderstand how good item 3742 as a TANK ITEM, ESPECIALLY after item 3800 got gutted into oblivion, blows my fucking mind. This isn't even a question. If you have the choice, as a tank, between item 3068 and item 3742 then you go item 3742 100% of the time this isn't even a question.

Kuroi869/22/2015, 9:44:46 AM2 votes

item 3068 = DPS for tanks and wave clear.

item 3742 = Burst for bruisers and initiation.

Maybe instead of buffing Sunfire, we need to nerf Dead Man's.

Indominus Blade9/21/2015, 9:34:42 AM1 votes

no they need to put sunfire cape back at 39 static damage, revert the nerf to it and its gg.
