The Grandmaster at "Arms"
After discussion with a fellow player, we felt that Jax doesn't really live up to his fantasy as the master of weaponry he is supposed to be. We feel that though it is amusing he fights without a "real" weapon he would be much better suited as a champion that uses a multitude of weapons with proficiency. We came up with the idea of giving Jax the option to pick different weapons from the shop that would interact with both his character stats (attack range, attack speed, AD) and with his abilities.
For instance: Base Jax fights with a staff or with his classic lamppost using stats similar to his current ones, but a Pike changes things.
Lamp: Attack range 125, 0.638 attack speed Pike: Attack range 200, 0.55 attack speed, grants an energized passive (small bonus physical damage), Empowered Strike has 100 extra range when energized. Shortswords: Attack range 125, 0.85 attack speed, basic attacks do 90% normal damage, Half cooldown and damage of Empowered Strike Greataxe: Attack range 150, 0.61 attack speed, empowered strike hits all targets in front of Jax within range.
And more.
All of these could have a gold cost and their own bonus stats as well, some weapons could offer AP alternatives (maybe give the lamppost the Luden's Echo passive). Make the whole system an expansion on Viktor's Hexcore, but focused on versatility rather than raw power. Currently the so called "Master at Arms" feels more like the master of feeding Darius, getting camped, and having a rigid build path that only splits between glass cannon and tank. I think offering Jax more versatility than he currently has would give him a stronger niche in the meta, and with the release of Kayn we know that a champion focused on having versatility like this isnt too far in the clouds.
I'd like to flesh this idea out more myself, but my main goal is to get the idea out there and communicate my disappointment with Jax's execution of his own unique fantasy.
Also nerf Irelia, thx.
