I mained her for like 120 games, I wouldn't really say she was overpowered as a support but she was top tier mid laner and was absolutely impossible to beat in lane and in most dueling cases as long as she had ultimate. I think the nerfs were necessary in the case of her going mid but she has so much room for counterplay as a support especially pre 6 that I rarely saw people take advantage of.

Sona's not been a good mid laner since season 1. She wasn't nerfed because she was oppressive mid lane, she was barely even viable mid. She was nerfed because Riot has some insane vendetta against her for some reason.

It may be because she is above average in all the metrics in the above diagram except for deaths. She is bang on average for deaths. Also the big eye. That eye freaks Riot out...

Well maybe it was just me going 34/1 or 20/4 because of my ridiculous amounts of experience with her, still I think she's a powerful mid laner and I honestly find relatively no counters to her aside from Zed, Yasuo, and Fizz. I mean Sona pokes so hard from afar that champions like Katarina, Leblanc, and Akali can't put up with it. When you have your ult up it's usually a guaranteed kill as well. Heck I've gotten triple kills off of it.

Her powerful pokes that only increase when she gets a Lich Bane, Sustain, Versatility in general, and godly teamfighting I would say totally makes her not a bad mid laner and I would definitely choose her (or Viktor my bae) over most other mid lane champions.

now they just need to give her a global passive that grants all allies 1 health regen when in combat

The way they work some of that regen stuff it will be more likely some weird "in combat regen that works only out of combat" or "only works when you have used an ability but aren't dealing or receiving damage." Seriously, some of the regen stats are just plain funky.
