Why does this AP item ( ), have more magic resist than this item, a tank item ( )? Seems kind of... funny if you asked me.

Spirit Visage gives health regen+HP in addition to the MR.

HP+MR > just slightly more MR

Spirit Visage grants more health, a bonus to healing effects (including lifesteal), greater base health regen and cooldown reduction. Banshee's Veil is very useful against bursty mage champions (spell shield~), but Spirit Visage grants more tankiness overall. So if you're facing a team with a lot of sustained magic damage (or a mix of strong physical and strong magic) you'll probably want the visage instead of the veil.
