@Riot Guild or Clans in Season 5?

Hey Riot,

I wanted to bring something I am sure most of us have been wondering, and that is guild or clan implementation. Most other games I have played in the past have many groups or clans that allow people with the same in game goals or values to come together and enjoy the game. After reading the boards for a few weeks I have noticed “factions” forming for people to join with Noxus, Piltover, etc. With the new changes in Season 5, I would love the idea of having the option to join a clan/guild in League.

I understand we already have the ability to create ranked teams able to add multiple players in the pursuit of gaining ELO. However, like most players, I want something deeper than that. For example, I am a 23 year old casual player that enjoys the game for some downtime after work. Naturally, I would want to be able to join a group that is in my age bracket with a similar schedule. It would be nice for an in game screen devoted to this group (similar to teams) that shows online members that I could play with, no matter what the game type. This group would be equipped with its own guild/clan chat tab on our toolbar. Also, a reward system for achieving certain in-game goals as a guild would be a fun idea to throw around. (Possibly customizable guild icon?) Each group would have a Leader with Officers that would manage the behavior and or criteria set for that group (ex Cursing, Role-playing violations etc.), and could also manage group events.

I strongly believe this would enhance the accountability for players to follow the Summoner’s Code, so they can enjoy playing with their guild/clan. (Or be kicked out of the guild/clan as a result of not following). This would help your staff @Lyte, because other players are acting as intermediaries for discipline and more players likely to behave as a result. I believe the best approach to having such a large community would be the addition of micromanagement such as this.

League of Legends is an awesome game and I have been with it since Season 2 and have seen drastic improvements in the community. This is my first post on the boards and just wanted to throw this idea to your staff. Thank you for your continuous work and look forward to hearing back on this!

What about instead of wording it as either clans or guilds, we call them leagues

because thats what the ranks are called

But imagine if they were both called leagues

"Yo dawg I heard you like leagues, so we got you some leagues in your leagues in League, so you could have more leagues in your league in League"

So basically ranked teams?

In the simplest of forms yes. I would like to see a group or guild that could house up to or more than 100 players that can play any game-type ranked or not.

Like I said above Riot would need to implement a larger public chat to facilitate this.

I understand where he is coming from on this. As most people who play league have probably already done so almost every MMO ever has had a clan/guild/alliance type system in place. Basically in League terms yes almost like a ranked team but have a spare tab within your profile for your so called "Clan" tab. This would be very similar to your ranked team but you could have options to form multiple teams in the guild, have like a weekly within the guild and such, maybe play so many ranked matches with a clan team or play certain champs or such and have an in game "clan" chat.

I have heard this idea many times, also its not a bad way to easily get say skirmishes done and whatever is already in place but its all in game, no 3rd party clients or websites of the sort needed. Its not a bad idea really but how it can be realized and implemented would take some time

^^ This.

”but you could have options to form multiple teams in the guild, have like a weekly within the guild and such, maybe play so many ranked matches with a clan team or play certain champs or such and have an in game "clan" chat."

Exactly what I was thinking. Most MOBA's have this, and the League players have been begging for a much closer knit community. Happier community = Increased Play Time = Increased Sales.

Especially with all of the events Riot does ( New Game Modes, Seasonal events etc.) This would be reinforced by the guild system promoting people to complete certain matches together with familiar players for incentives (icons, banners, etc.).

Go make a website and make your own clan then.

Clans do not randomly happen works makes them happen. You are asking riot to something that you should be doing.

Their are a few league gaming clans around already if you are looking to join an established group.

I didn't mean for it to come across as " riot make me a clan so I can haz internet friends!". I simply meant that some in-game features supporting this system would be awesome.

For instance, simply expanding on the old chat tabs that they have now (or used to have). Would make it easier for people playing league to network and meet with one another in game.

in client solutions are pretty bad for clans. you can already make a sub section of your friend list for the "clan" . Also chat rooms can be made and maintained to have a meeting place to talk and find people.

People that run successful groups usually run a 3rd party Voip (mumble, TS3, vent, ect) and have a website where they get people organized.

If you think about what the difference between a small clan and a group of friends? Not much.

In that sense there isn't much of a difference at all, so I see where you are coming from. What I am referring to is something on a much larger scale.

For instance, in Blizzard's WoW the reason most people play is the sense of community it brings because of their guild system. Imagine if Riot had something similar in game so players could do all the things both you and I are talking about, but it is all in game.

Also, a larger General Chat or Public Chat needs to be in place to allow for these players to meet and recruit.

TL:DR - I understand what I am asking for is already on the interwebz, but some in game application supporting this would be nice to see. Not only that but Riot could sell customizable guild icons and expand on the "Quests" they have been trying to push for the last two seasons by providing incentives to that guild that completes them.

Food for Thought

again what he is asking for is something in-game. I use voice chat with most everyone I play with, thats fine as most people do. But he was referring to something in game not a website whicg again is outside game. It is easier to organize people on the client than having to go on a website, post something and wait for replies

Actually you are completely wrong. Out side solutions are usually the best way to mange a clan. When servers go down it goes people a place to till send msgs.

Plus people usually play one than more game. Out side web sites allow the community to grow beyond LoL and talk in situations where a client is not optimal or the game is down.

Apparently you know nothing about clan structure.

Actually most valid clans in any other MMO have stopped using websites for the most part due to people having a lack of interest in signing on to see if a server is up or down when they can see that anytime by trying to log in to a game or hopping on voice chat. Most MMO's now have their own means of hosting things in game so outside clients are still useless as far as a website goes.......

As far as organizing things that is done in-game for the most part as well in all other MMO games.

A website yes, it does allow a community to grow beyond LoL, but really when its all said and done. If you met someone in say Rift/WoW/LoL. You probably enjoy playing with them and their group. Your gonna be on voice chat with them. Then you may carry over to another game, your still chatting with them in that game and on voice chat.

I understand the website thing, it was cool for a bit but most people don't go to a website for news, they go in game, its easier and people are lazy most times. I have been on a community website for almost 10 years. I do check in from time to time to see if anything is new and such but usually the info is old or I have seen the news elsewhere or heard of it in game.

Angry Monster1 votes

actually you are wrong on two points.

1 That clans do not use Websites and 3rd party software.

2 this game is not a MMO.

Thraesh1 votes

If this was directed at me I never stated this was an MMO. I was stating the word MMO in general as that is where most clans/guilds/alliances are based.

And I never said that they don't use websites anymore. I said most valid clans don't use them for the activities suggested here as in, when servers are up, what is going on that day or what not as most games now outside of LoL have in game organization and any news you need you can get in game, on the source websites, or on voice chat.

Outside of websites what 3rd party software is used aside from voice chat? You can't use addons for LoL so those can't be suggested.

Again I stated I have been part of a guild website for almost 10 years and almost no one uses it anymore for the purpose of forming anything related to any game. Same goes for some of my other accounts and games I play and anyone with half a brain will tell you the same. Most people are lazy and its easier to get news and organize things either in a game or on voice chat. And it takes two seconds to see if a game server is down without a website
